I'm playing my turn but I'm not certain that i'll be done tonight.

I couldn't resist giving everyone a preview:

A Spanish Tercio is dead! :woohoo:

No way! Dont´t tell me you have bombers and artillery already, i can´t see any other possibility for that :p

That's a sad day.

Apparently the French don't need any ally to win the game, Henry of Navarre will do that by himself...

... well that and the Irish on the other team lol... strange game... strange game indeed... :p

I give all the credit to Lou:

Welcome to Rocroy ! This battle in 1643 saw the first defeat of the Spanish tercios. Enghien had the good idea of bombarding them. This was the beginning of the end for the Spanish army. But during this scenario you can still prove tercios to be the strongest units ever.

I do have all those spare bombards lying around.

This is a big turn I'm afraid.

News From the French Front: Part 1

March On The Capital

Every war needs an objective - however realistic. Few people would have imagined that Henry of Navarres's heartfelt promise to seize the gates of Paris would ever be fufilled five short years ago. Now his dreams are reality and The Protestants need a new objective: St. Quentin

The Battle of Verdun: Part 1

Verdun

In an attempt to stall the advancing French Armies, the Spanish set up a blockade near the city of Verdun. At the front of their defenses lay the Spanish's secret weapon: the Tercio. The Tercio had never before been defeated by any army. The highest trained regiments in Europe, the Tercios take an immense amount of time to train but once formed were thought invincible.

Henry of Navarre was determined to prevent the Spanish from blocking his advance. He racked his brains and finally came up with a solution: The Bombard. His many captured bombards fired salvo after salvo at the enemy and finally the once proud Tercio was reduced to a fraction of its original strength. That was when the famous French Army charged the enemy. The French Army is still around but the invincible Spanish Tercio is feeding the hungry vultures.

The Remaining Troops were killed easily by Landsknecht and Five
Additonal Bombards were captured.

The Battle of Verdun: Part 2

With the Spanish out of the way, the French were ready to continue the advance on the League Capital. After bombardment using our new cannons, the city was charged by a Reiter Regiment and the Milita inside was killed.

Verdun belongs to the French.

Further Eastern Battles

Luxemberg

Verdun is the gateway to two important things: St Quentin, the Capital of the French League and the south half of the Spanish Walloon Territories.

Henry of Navarre was eager to secure his advance against further Spanish interference. With that in mind, he decided to take steps to block the Spanish. He decided to take Luxemberg from the League to prevent the Spanish from advancing again.
A Reiter Regiment was prepared to fight the defenders of the city. To our surprise the city's gates lay open to us. It was undefended!

It is now defended, by us.

Coastal Fighting in the East

Caen

Henry of Navarre decided that for now the time was not right to attack the enemy capital. It was however time to split the League into multiple pieces. This endeavor started at Caen.

With a Brave charge, the French Besiegers charged the city downing a Milita Regiment and a Rider. The city was taken, effectively cutting the League into two seperate halves.

Vannes and Rennes

Henry of Navarre finds these names similar so they are grouped together. These cities do not have any strategic importance but we want to get rid of the League so we have to take them. Both had Milita Regiments which were killed. Vannes, or was it Rennes?, had an extra Conscript Milita which was also killed by a Landsknecht.

The Spanish Flotilla

West of Bordeaux

Not content with trying to block us out east, the Spanish have also positioned a flotilla just outside our cultural borders near Bordeaux. It was spotted by our naval scouts which go out every turn. (Thank you akots for warning me about Semental & Bordeaux:) )

Spanish_Flotilla.jpg

Yes it has finally happened. We got unlucky.
We still won though:) but with heavy losses.:(

The Spanish Flotilla contained 2 Carracks and a War Carrack. We lost 3 Carracks and a War Carrack trying to down it but in the end the Spanish Flotilla was sunk to the bottom of the ocean.

I just hope there was stuff aboard.

I have been real sick just after the new year then I had the "great" idea of switching to Linux which is nice but the switch was not a breeze, especially to use Windows applications such as Civ...

But I am back, everything is working... Sorry again for the delay. The last one I think... not switching anytime soon
