C3C v1.20 patch is out!!!

My point is not about building them or not. Me too, there are games when I don't build a single tower or civil defense. I'm not touching the issue about their utility, but questioning the reason they removed a compulsory tech that opens the next era and demands a distinct way of research (Sci Method - Atomic Theory - Eletronics - Radio) in favour of non-compulsory techs or whatever is the reason.

Because you will have to research both ways to get into Modern, the Eletronics way and the Corporation way. I particularly research Sci Method first so I pre-build ToE, get Atomic Theory and Eletronics (two expensive ones) and guarantee the Hoover Dam to my civ.

The absence of Radio won't change the way I play, and I wonder how it would change the way many others play. It was just unnecessary, and now Industrial Ages will go faster (as Alexman stated above) since it's one less compulsory tech to research. I don't want to start a case on this change, and I don't think it's the most important thing of the game of course, I just think it didn't need to happen. Just let the industrial tech tree there, it's great the way it is.

Now with a needless change, we have a new small bug in which your civilization starts the game with Radio. Just because it was decided that the tech is useless and should be removed.

There are many other issues in which the developers should be paying attention instead of this. Don't do changes that doesn't bring benefits. That's just my opinion, I don't have any interest in reduce the "length" of the Industrial Age.

Removing Radio tech is a huge improvement. I've recently played a game with the 1.20 changes and to put it bluntly, it's just more fun without radio. More possibilities etc.
So instead of radio opening the new era, it's Motorized transportation, Flight or Electronics that opens it. What's the problem with that?
And about the bug, just delete the radio tech in the biq.

Trust me matey, after things like the Air Superiority Bugs and the various FP bugs, we're very aware of your capability for making mistakes.

:goodjob: for keeping us informed, however.

I must say I fail to see the point in removing Radio. It'll just result in a shorter industrial age and the UN coming around even sooner.

And is it only me, or does the AI's use of Radar Towers have disturbing similarities with its use of Fortresses in CivII?

Putting effort into removing Radio from the tech tree while there are still a lot of very serious bugs in the game :hmm: Wouldn't have been my choice. Two things come to mind without effort that should have been fixed:

-The Scientific Golden Age should actually work
-Barbarians should behave in a normal way: they should be a threat and not stay put!

At least a number of the PBEM issues are solved, in the final version of 1.20...

I stick with 1.15.

Well said! :goodjob:

To be honest, the more time goes by, the more I have to doubt that I will spend money for a Civ4.

C3C was released in a more than just buggy state. They re-introduced old bugs, introduced new ones and finally put their effort into changing tech trees instead of concentrating on the real bugs which are still in the game.
They just don't prove they are still capable of releasing good games.

I will stick with the 1.15 patch and will look for similar games from other companies. Period.

It's funny that from all your complaining I thought you were waiting for them to fix the game before you would play it. Are you enjoying playing 1.15? I know I am but haven't downloaded 1.20, 1.21, or 1.22 yet. I might wait for the June patch.

I'm not quite sure that I got your point

Anyway... I bought C3C, I patched it from 1.00 to 1.01 to 1.12 to 1.15 and currently am playing this version.
I for sure am not going to load the 1.20/1.22 combination at the moment.

And about your question: I'm kind of enjoying the 1.15, since it is a slight improvement.

Nevertheless, I am more than disappointed about all the bugs which are still - and again!!!! - in C3C.
After having spend more than 100 Euros for the Civ3 series, I will carefully wait for the first experience reports before I will give them some more money. But ok, that's just me.

I haven't seen that, and I played as the Maya...

Can someone answer my question I asked twice?

But doesn't the patch require you load PBEM with Multiplayer, not Singleplayer? Singleplayer loading is SO much faster that I couldn't stand having to go through multiplayer.

Or did I misread?

I think what it means is that you can no longer load PBEM games in the middle of a single player game. That was where the bug struck.

I only have 4 words for Firaxis:

Fix sub bug please.

that's extrange, I was playing aginst the mayas in an epic game and they had scouts, then I went to the editor and found they had 3 traits.

Then please post a screenshot of this

Radio removed? The Radio changed the tides of combat forever! Why?!!!

Most probably we will learn in some days that Radio has been considered an accidentally placed tech since the days of vanilla civ... :p
Or, they identified this as the easiest way to screw up parts of the game (tech tree display, cipilopedia, conquests and so on) and to confuse players, now even without touching the coding...

This is, what people call efficiency...

Weird, when I was complaining about the -then- upcoming 1.20 patch, I had a bunch of fanbois on my back telling me to cut Firaxis some slack..now I read almost all the thread and seems like "familiar" names are back and crying on the fate of the 1.20 patch...

I wonder who was right, I who was "making a fool of myself" like a fanboi told me, trying to make Firaxis change its mind (and the boards are the least means I used) or them who were willing to get the patch right now right there, and putting a blind faith into Firaxis to get it right ?

Funny when you read them saying they wont upgrade etc, now its out asap they want firaxis "to take it back and fix it" lol !

Anyway I know that these boards, despite having a TON of quality content and people (including some so called fanbois), is also a nest of fanatic players (we ARE at civ fanatics after all) who will flame and attack anyone who dares criticizing their beloved game.

Reason Number One for me to not post here as often as I want is the way people react to criticism; with emotion rather than logic. Arguments lacking any rhyme nor reason doesn't seem to be a problem on these boards as long as they fit within the official paradigm: praise and glory to the mighty Firaxis, bow before your master for you are not worthy !!

Yes I'm exaggerating a bit, but there were still people telling me to suck it up when I wasn't happy with -semi quote-: "the free fixes and content they pour in the game, despite them having not making any profit on the patches"

Yeah right, I wonder how Firaxis would react if my hard earned $$ needed a patch to work, and what emotions they would feel if they knew that I released a patch to my money, but you can only buy vanilla cookies with it (not even chocolate !) and oh yeah it would take me months to get to the vanilla cookies phase.

Guess as months would pass by it would be:

:D :o  :(  :nuke:

rather than simply:
:)

Its just sad that everybody has been waiting for the release to start being concerned, and those few who did were on the company's "side".

We know the result today.

PS:There is a saying: "arguing over the internet is akin to the Special Olympics, you may win but you are still a tard".

Thats why I wont argue over this post, I know what to expect anyway.

PPS: lets see if this message won't be edited out.

;)

It probably will be HiroHito. The thing about the Special Olympics used to be in my signature, but a mod asked me to change it. :p
