Call of Duty 4

Finally got it yesterday. Love it, I'll play the single player missions at some point but for the time being it's all about the MP.

My gamertag is Kane Richards (I think) if anyone wants to add me and play a game sometime.

It's a great game. Definately reccomend you play the single player, it's short but has a decent story and some very cool moments. It may not be open-ended or non-linear or whatever the latest buzzword is, but it doesn't need to be. The scripting just adds to the cinematic feel of it.

The multiplayer is fun too. I think I'm up to level 30-something. I've unlocked a bunch of guns but I keep going back to the ol' MP5, though the G3 is nice too for longer range, especially in hardcore mode.

Oh don't get me wrong, I have always enjoyed the CoD single player missions (bar CoD3 which can burn for all I care) but CoD4 was mainly bought for online gaming.

It's cool. What perks is everyone using? My favourite setup is an MP5 with red-dot, stopping power, steady aim and extra flash grenades for storming rooms and general close quarters shenanigans. I have also found the extra-ammo perk (bandolier) very useful for sniper rifles, where you can easily run out of ammo if you hunker down in a good spot far away from the thick of the action for too long.

I'm still in the process of getting my rank up so don't have all of them but I'm a fan of the gun you start with (think it's got a 3 bullet burst), and Pug's perks although I've found I rarely use the special nades.

I don't think I've played a single FPS where I've been good at sniping, just never seem to be able to take people out with it

I've just started playing the SP levels.

Am I the only one who's notice the copious amount of 'Aliens' references in the dialogue?

I've already had

'Marines, we are leaving!!!'
'I like to keep this handy, for close encounters'
'Stay Frosty'

and I'm sure there's two more I've forgotten about

Martyrdom is for nooblets. It's especially annoying in hardcore when there is no grenade indicator. It's just cheap, considering it drops even if you have no grenades left. Only thing worse then it is the grenade launcher kids.

Also I recant my position on the M14. It has the devils recoil and in even in steady aim it's inaccurate as hell. Not even the red dot sight helps it.

Aim down as you fire.

That helps a bit but it's still lots inaccurate. I'm gonna keep practicing with it.
You will master it eventually. :)

It's not that bad in S&D but it's a bit harder to rule with it in TDM.

MP in this game is very fun. I have been waiting for a game to take over that empty spot left over when I stopped playing SOCOM II online, and this game is it. The wide variety of games and settings you can play really gives you a lot of options, and when the modding tools come out soon you will see a lot more maps and mods coming out. For instance, I can play an absolutely insane, grenade throwing frag fest in one room and then have a slow, stealthy and no cheap-crap hardcore match in a tactical room right after. I find filtering out non-friendly fire rooms really separates the crazy grenade throwing rooms from the rest.

It'd be great if there was a VIP or Escort mode like in SOCOM and CS, I loved those matches.

Currently loving the G3 and the Dragunov BTW.

I've had similar experiances in CoD:UO too. Tank and fire fight over a base, move out down the road a bit and have another skirmish, then wander around the map a bit (Base Assault maps usually have lots of room) before sneaking up and attacking the guards on the enemy's base.
