I just beat the game and all I can say is WOW! It was fun and exciting. I played for 3 hours just to beat it. The first time I built the Pendragon wonder but lost to Owain, even though I had built almost every wonder. I tried it again and I tried to bribe my opponites with 2000 gold. It didn't work. I tried once again and captured the Grail, and brought to my capital just as Rome, Saxony, France, Gaul, and a few others simultaneously attacked my (huge) empire :(. Oh well, at least I won. My Third game took about one hour.

One idea. I think you should re-write the Script.txt file so that instead of saying "Hold Eletions for the UN Security Council" it says "Hold Election for Bretwalda" or something like that.

Anyway, It was really fun.

Never bribe them. It doesn't work. :D

Now you make me want to play it again. :)

I had Tens Thousands of gold. I made 'em happy though. :D But your right. It didn't work.

:king: I'm about done with the first era and I must say it's very good so far, could use just a bit of polishing to make it great. The civilopedia text entries are very lacking I found myself looking for descriptions of tech's and improvements that I didn't know anything about only to find no entry.:nono:
A complete civilopedia file is a good Idea to keep those of us less in the know from losing interest and cluttering up the thread with questions.

The wagon seems a little out of place (wild west covered wagon) and I had no Idea it was a settler unit. I thought it was just a land transport.(no pedia entry) You know the AI wont load units into it right? The AI doesn't know how to use any type of land transport so only the player can take advantage of that feature.

I made it through to this point with out having to go to war at all as the Brits, but now 3 civ's just declared war on me so I'll let you know how that works out.

Keep up the good work.....:goodjob:

Storm Grunt:

Thanks for the post.

I'm not sure what to make of the no 'pedia comment. It's been made before;

I want to re-iterate Plotinus' points. You've made a very innovative mod - especially with regard to your time line. Very cool idea to go from pre-history to a nice medieval setting. As far as I know, that hasn't been done before.

Also - I want to strongly encourage you to add to the pedia. It won't make or break any scenario in terms of playability, but it certainly adds a layer of immersion that really defines what Civ games are about. Plus, it's always cool to learn new tidbits and factoids about the in-game Wonders/units/techs/etc.

But then others have said just the opposite;

This is one of the best scenarios I've played, by the way. You've really paid a lot of attention to details here, and your hard work really shows. I've seen a few spelling errors, etc., but nothing too distracting. Excellent work!

All in all - and having only played one era in, on one civ - it is indeed an impressive work, especially on the art work chosen. I really appreciate when modders have gone to the trouble. Pretty much ditto on the 'pedia. You've done an outstanding job with the icons, the terrain, the LHs and so on. Tip-top.

So, I'm not really sure what to make of it. As I look at it, every tribe, tech, wonder, building & unit have 'pedia entries. If you have specific examples, I'll fix them in the update. I looked at the wagon you are correct, it does not specify it as a settler unit. But other than that...?

Regarding the wagon, it has been discussed. It will be changed. I will be removing its transport capacity. As far as its wild west look, it was the best wagon I could find with in CFC. If you know of a better, more medieval one, I'd certainly use it.

So, anyway, thanks again for the post. Glad you like CAMELOT!, mostly. If you still think there's a 'pedia issue, perhaps your download did something funky to it.

So. Civ should have a bank account. Bank all your gold so you don't accidentally bribe the people you're about to crush.

I can't repeat the praise of others enough! I've played many other scenarios, and this is by far one of the best. The terrain, music, and unit art all work very well together.

I've only had time to play once as the Belgae through the 1st age, but it looks great so far! The only problem I've encountered seems to be a common one, and easily remedyed; the problem of the Statue of Beowulf. Other than that, it's been perfect so far!

I would definitly encourage some kind of update, and keep up the good work :goodjob:

Hey Agaveman!

Welcome to Civilization Fanatics Center!
You're the second person who's joined CFC recently and put their first posting in the CAMELOT! thread. That's so cool. Thank you.

And thank you for your enthusiastic response. I really appreciate it.
Glad you like the music. There are a few of us here that think the music is as integral to a good scenario as anything else. If you want more great game play, try out The Rood & The Dragon by Plotinus and the Rise & Fall of the Mughals by Rambuchan. They are both excellent. In fact Rood was the inspiration for CAMELOT!.

There is a simple fix for the Beowulf issue in post #22 I believe. There's a link to it on the first post immediately following the download link.

Once again, thank you. And a very hearty welcome.

Oddly enough, I actually downloaded the Rise and Fall of the Mughals at the same time as CAMELOT!

I just experienced a problem, and im not sure whether it's been discussed or not. Right as I discovered the last tech of the 1st age, It flashed the new age screen, and then quit out. I saw the link on the first post discussing a music problem--I'm wondering if this is similar.

Thanks for the tip about Rood & Dragon, I will need to check it out!

So, it flashed the new age screen and then cut out...
Were you able to subsequently start up again?
Or does this happen every time now?

This didn't happen to me, but I don't have the music, so I guess that may be the problem.

Az, there is nothing wrong with the CivP; it is perfectly acceptable as is. I think though that to give some flavor and feeling for this mythical and wondrous time that if it was me I would expand a few of the entries. Here is an example:

#BLDG_Excalibur
^
^
^Excalibur is the mythical sword of King Arthur. It was said to have had magical powers and its possession often times was associated with the rightful kingship of Britain.
^
^This Great Wonder produces an $LINK<Army=PRTO_Army> every five turns in the city where it is built. It may trigger a
$LINK<Golden Age=GCON_Golden_Age> for Militaristic and Religious civilizations.
^
#DESC_BLDG_Excalibur
^
^In surviving accounts of King Arthur, there are two originally separate legends about the sword's origin. The first is the "Sword in the Stone" legend in which Excalibur can only be drawn from the stone by Arthur, the rightful king. The second version describes how Arthur receives Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake after breaking his first sword in a fight with King Pellinore. The Lady of the Lake calls the sword "Excalibur, that is as to say as Cut-steel." As he lies dying, Arthur tells a reluctant Sir Bedivere to return the sword to the Lake by throwing it back in. Bedevere twice pretends to do this and lies to Arthur, who scolds him harshly, where on the third time he throws the sword in. Just before the sword hits the water's surface, a hand, that of the Lady, reaches up and grasps the sword, pulling it down under.
^
^In many versions, Excalibur's blade was engraved with words on opposite sides. On one side were the words, [take me up], and on the other side, [cast me away]. This prefigures its return into the water. Excalibur's scabbard was said to have powers of its own. Injuries from losses of blood for example would not kill the bearer. In some tellings, wounds received by one wearing the scabbard did not bleed at all. The scabbard is stolen by Morgan le Fay and thrown into a lake, never to be found again.
^
^The 19th century poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson, described the sword in full Romantic detail in his poem [Morte d'Arthur], one of the Idylls of the King:
^
^ ["There drew he forth the brand Excalibur,]
^ [And o’er him, drawing it, the winter moon,]
^ [Brightening the skirts of a long cloud, ran forth]
^ [And sparkled keen with frost against the hilt:]
^ [For all the haft twinkled with diamond sparks,]
^ [Myriads of topaz-lights, and jacinth-work."]

Please check out the excellent CivP's associated with Rood and Dragon, Desert and Mountain, and Rise and Fall of the Mughals for some examples of this.

Ooh, thanks! At the risk of being accused of advertising myself, don't forget that my other scenario, The Desert and the Mountain, has music too. It's odd how few mods do have custom music, given what an effect it can have on the atmosphere - I suppose it's partly because many people turn off the game music anyway and put a CD on instead, and forget that there is game music in the first place...

7ronin:
Excellent example. I will admit that by the time I got around to doing the 'pedia entries, I was pretty burnt out on the whole thing, especially as I really ended up doing most of the scenario twice (did something the editor didn't like which caused the game to crash, never could figure it out, had to start over). I like the entry you have for Excalibur. Is that your own, or from somewhere else? I took a lot of stuff off Wikipedia, but found its not always complete. The civilopedia is one of my main focuses for the CAMELOT! update.
Thanks again for the suggestion.
And thank you very much for including CAMELOT! in you signature. That is honorable company.

Hey Plotinus!
You promote yourself just as much as you like!
I am most pleased to have you post in this thread for absolutely any reason.

Regarding music: It appears that some folk have had trouble with the downloaded soundtrack for CAMELOT!. I haven't been actually playing CAMELOT! as I've been working on the update. Haven't even had the music hooked up for testing. So last night I copied the Sounds/build folder back into the scenario and discovered that it was causing the game to crash. I've check the mp3's and there all 128kps. Now, in some other threads about music, someone posted that the files also had to be 44,000Hz. What do you know about this? Mine are all 44,100Hz. Does that matter? What program did you use to format your sound files?

Getting the right format for these things is an absolute bugger. I have found that some MP3 tracks of 128kps and 44 Mhz work and others inexplicably don't. Evidently there are other differences between them imperceptible by normal means. My solution is rough, but it works: burn all problematic tracks onto a CD, and then rip them off again using Real Player (not Media Player). They will be in Civ III-friendly format.

Interesting point aobut the music... I reloaded the scenario, and I managed to get into the second age, only to have the program exit on the prompt about switching governments. I'll root around and see if I can't find the cause of the trouble. Worse comes to worse I'll just re install the scenario. Other than this problem, Camelot looks great! I can't wait to get to the grail!

So when you burn them onto the CD, do they need to be at 128kps, or will Real Player convert them in the rip?

It doesn't matter what you burn them as - they don't even have to be MP3s. Simply ensure that Real Player rips them as MP3s and they ought to be OK.

There has to be a better way of doing this - that doesn't entail the loss of a CD - but I haven't been able to find one!
