Appreciate your cat-like curiosity and enthusiasm, but regarding the Grail... what Plotinus said. Don't want to give away too much, you know. ;)

As for a graphics-less download, I will work on that. The hold up is that it's more involved than just not including the Art folder with all the pcx & flc files. The BIQ file, which runs the game, will need some tweaking, and that will mean I'll have to play the game to make sure I've correctly tweaked it back. And being a husband, a father, an active church member, an employer, a good neighbor, and a scenarioist (I made that one up, pretty cool, eh? ), I don't have a whole lot of time to do a whole lot of extra stuff. :(
Now, don't go getting all depressed and pouty faced  , I'll see if I can't get something going this week-end.

LM: Why can't you just get the unit files seperately?
Hey CD!

Do you think Thunderfall would host them?
Or 3D Downloads?
Uncompressed, they're over 200 megs.

Plotinus, oh great creator of the Rood & Dragon, inspiration of CAMELOT!:

Good to hear your voice in this thread again. (Yeah, I know it's only being a few days, but I'm just so eager, man!)

So, have you done any more galavanting around the country side of merry ol' Camelot on your faithful steed? I'd love to hear more about your exploits. You know, Rambuchan wrote a pretty cool low-down a number of posts back. You going to let him be the only story teller in this thread?

:wow: 200 megs?

You would have to do 3D Downloads or you would end up doing every little unit at a time.

Ok, I've played a game on Demigod with Accelerated Production, working Aqueducts and the flag Allows City Size Level 3 assigned to The Great Hall (in order to allow each civ one city beyond size 12).

The game pace is still very fast: the Pendragon was built in turn 90, the year 140 AD, and those goddam Belgae won the votes... ungrateful bastards... And that meant I didn't get to go Grail Hunting this time either. At least the pollution problem is much less of a bother now. Two proposals:
  • make some of the central techs of the earlier ages untradeable, since the tech-trading among the AI civs is one reason for the fast pace. (like Yoda did in Twilight of Byzantium ;))
  • move the Pendragon to a later tech or make it much more demanding to build:
    • higher cost
    • req rare resources like gold and gems since the Pendragon of choice would be the richest and most generous noble
    • req a higher number of a certain building like churches since the Pendragon of choice would be the most seemingly pious noble, and it would also weed out the smaller civs
    • req a Victorious Army since the Pendragon of choice would be the most impressing warlord
    • and so on.
Hey Azmorg, one question about the wonder Knight's Templar: is it intentional that it does the same thing as the small wonder Military Academy (Build Larger Armies, Requires a Victorious Army) at a higher cost (700 shields versus 400)? The Military Academy seems to be a bargain then since it also lets you Build Armies Without Leader, and it comes earlier with Military Training.

Mr. Wolfhart Dude:

You are the most excellent of reviewers! You should be ensconced as like the official, permanent CivFanatic Scenario Reviewer. Sort of the Siskel & Ebert of Civ.

But seriously, these are terrific suggestions based on a very thorough knowing of the scenario. It's obvious you've really played the game with an eye for improving it. Thank you very much.

Your thoughts about the Pendragen are very good and will be incorporated into the update.

Likewise, with the Knight's Templar vs the Military Academy. There were points in the construction of this thing that I just got tired of doing it all. Consequently, there are rough edges and all. This is one of them. Yes, I purposely have both of them increasing the capacity of Armies; this way you can get a level 5 Army. I like big. :D But your other points regarding the two wonders are well taken and shall be incorporated.

Again, thank you for a tremendous review & analysis. If your so inclined, keep it up! Methinks I shall have to give you a credit line on the update.

Sorry if I made it sound like I wanted the scenario NOW  (hehe just kinding :D ). You really don't have to tweak it so that it is perfect. You can just post it with loose ends and I can fix it. Really, it would be my pleasure, because you are doing this for me. :crazyeye:

LM:

After giving it some thought and looking at how I might do it, I have decided that it's not practical to make a CAMELOT! lite. Just the terrain folder alone is over 10 megs. If I don't use the units, or leaderheads, or techs, or terrain, then you don't really have CAMELOT!. All you have is just plain old Civ. So, I guess it's all or nothing. Sorry old chap.

OH MY GOSH! I just realized something. You used a picture of Celebrimbor for the 'Smithing' Tech didn't you? I can see him on the screenie! :D

Is it? I didn't know that. I just did an image search on the net and picked this one. It's pretty cool though.

Rambuchan knows I'd never let him out-write me if I can help it... I'll give it a go, don't worry. May take a little time, though, as I'm very snowed under at the moment (a pile of graphics to make, for starters!).

Plotinus:

Yes, our busyness is definately a distraction. Then I realize that the busyness is what we call a life, that thing we all try to get when all we do with ourselves is stuff like playing Civ. So, I understand completely what you're saying. Still, I do look forward to your verbal sparring with Rambuchan. And by the way, I am really glad to see you entering the graphics arena. Incidentally, I have taken your advice and cleaned up the palette issues with those pesky tech icons. That NeoPaint is a handy dandy little program. Much more user friendly than PaintShop, PhotoShop or, I shudder to think about it, the GIMP. Thanks again.

A pleasure! I don't think many people around here use NeoPaint, but I've found it extremely useful. It won't do animations, though - I don't know if the Gimp does, but really I don't want to find out...

 Strange...

I never knew Celebrimbor helped King Arthur! Maybe he forged Excaliber!

Yeah... And perhaps the Lady of the Lake is Galadriel.
Might be on to something!

Az, I would certainly encourage you to produce an "improved" version. As Plotinus pointed out, good scenarios are never really finished, they're just works in progress. Don't feel though that you have to do it tomorrow (unless some gigantic bug is discovered). Let people play the game, get a feel for it, and give you some feedback. Several months from now your own viewpoint might be changed.

Absolutely. It's also worth pointing out that all the best scenarios have at least one major revision. In fact I can't think of a major one that hasn't. And some, such as RFRE or Zombie Island, seem to exist in a permanent state of being improved.
