Camera panning freeze

Ah, too bad. Still points to a bad resource-management issue, then - perhaps the dx9 version just uses less of this resource, then, or more efficiently, making crashes more rare.

I had one other crash after I'd posted last night. It was during a pan, but I discounted it for two reasons: it was scrolling to an area that never exhibited the problem before, and recreating the sequence on reload did not reproduce the problem.

I'll try the tweak Tokala linked to, though I'll likely stay in DX9 if I can't find a way to fix the rest of the glitchy DX10 graphics.

Those tweaks helped a lot once the terrain textures were loaded, but nothing I tried got rid of the fast-panning crash in dx11. With those tweaks, I imagine that I could make it go away by slowly panning over the whole map manually before allowing it to fast-pan anywhere, but I've been working on this for over two hours tonight, and I'm out of patience.

DX9 seems to be working for me, and for the most part looks better, so I suppose I'll just stick with that for now.

Sorry to keep spamming this thread, but I wanted to add that while I haven't seen the panning crash in DX9, zooming out too far still consistently causes a crash.

FWIW..I had my first crash in DX 10/11 after about 2700+ turns (marathon mode). Like a picture in another thread, I saw the gray "ocean" showing up on my maps.

I am running a W7, i7 M620, ATI 5870 and 4GBs of RAM.

Event Viewer showed civV_div11.exe crashed.
DXdiag did not find anything.

Restarted the game and it crashed again and again and again and again after pressing Next Turn.

Started looking on here for solutions when my Kaspersky (2010) Weekly report message popped up. I remember someone on a thread mention that as a possible problem.

Upon my next start-up, it worked fine.

This is kind of the same problem. I tried three times and each time the same result. From the save load click next turn (a few workers need help and click next turn again). As the second turn starts I click to set production in three cities and the first unit offered to move is the attack chopper. If I right click on the far Eastern part of the continent (where troops are sailing off to fight Japan), the music hiccups a couple of times and the game freezes.

Adding another report of random freezes/lock-ups of my entire computer after the .161 hotfix.

The computer simply locks up with a frozen screen and I have to reset the computer to get out of it--task manager and all other computer functions are frozen.

Running Vista 32 bit with an ATI 5750, which is latest gen vid card & using DX11. Playing std maps at recommended (high) video settings.

This only started to happen after the hotfix. My drivers and DX are all up to date.

Like many from Nov. last year the game will freeze during panning when running dx10/11. The dx9 version seems to run OK, but I do miss the eye candy.

Key Specs:

Win 7
Nv card 8800 GTS w/ 2 gig memory
Intel Dual Core Overclocked
4 gig memory

All drivers up to date

Attempted fix:

Set Nv 3d parameters to those listed in this thread, eg textures = low (did not help)

If someone has suggestions please let me know. Thx!
