CamJH's Creation Thread

Odin,
The chainmail texture I use is actually a texture that comes included with poser. It's in Materials>Procedurals>Metal>TexturedSteel, then I set the colors at R 128, G 128, B 128. Pretty simple. I used to use a more complicated texture, but this one works well for civ-scale.

More info on the unit...
I started out working on a model for a Wood Elf Warrior not too long ago, but didn't care that much for it in the end. So I started over, and developed this by drawing somewhat loosely from examples over at games-workshop, from both Wood Elf models and Dunedain/Rangers of the North models. I figured, this way I can hopefully help out with at least two projects at the same time.

I think it could be nice as a Russian spearman as well

Thanks for the info AND the "making-of" :D

For a wood elf, at least for the purposes of LotM (as it looks like we would not be using him as a ranger), I would recommend not giving him a shield.

Been a busy week. Next week I should have some more time on my hands since we have time off to celebrate Independence Day.

I've got a couple of the animations done, but since this is a two-handed attack, it takes a little more time to make sure the weapon is properly placed in the off hand, and that there aren't any wierd angles. (plus I have to change the morphs on the kilt in every frame to prevent poke-through... only problem with using kilt figures)

Since it's a two-handed figure (meaning he uses both hands on weapon), he won't have a shield. A bit more of a pain-in-the-arse this way, but hopefully it'll turn out well in the end.

Use IK chains to make it easier. Just give IK to the left hand, and parent the left hand to the spear. So the left hand follows the spear wherever.
Haven't tried that method yet, but I've heard other people describe it. Probably worth a try.

Independance Day = Units Day. Sounds good to me
Actually it's Beer-n-BBQ Day! :) We have some friends coming down to visit, and I imagine we'll celebrate like our forefathers would've wanted. :mischief: But then the office is closed afterwards, so I'll have some time to get to work in my Poser office.

Yes, I actually find this method a lot easier. I've noticed that sometimes when you parent a hand to a prop the hand distorts (just a little Poser "feature"). The answer to this is to parent the left hand to the right hand, which still has the desired effect. Then you need only move the right arm and the left one will move automatically.

I've finished a couple of the animations for the Wood Elf, and while I was messing around with Poser I also put together this model...

I've still got other models stewing in the pot, but they still need some work before I start posting previews.
