I was listening to a Saxygamer YouTube video (the guy is really knowledgeable) and he stated that barbarians cannot take your capital city. Can anybody confirm or deny this?

Same for city-states, in my war against Egypt my allied city-state took and immediately razed two of her cities, but could only lower her capital to 0 HP without taking it. I was hoping to avoid the grievance penalty.

I have had them take the Capital if it is not my only city. It was razed to the ground.

Or maybe I am misremembering.

I didn't think Capitals could ever be razed?

I wasn't sure if barbs could take a capital, but I almost found out the other day. I only had the one city and started an early war. I didn't plan on making a settler, as my next city was going to be the one(s) I conquered. I had most of my units attacking Poland, who had decided to settle near my borders. Then I noticed the barbs attacking my capital. They nearly had it too but I think I bought an archer in time. Without reloading, I would not have been able to get my own units there in time to fight them off. I wasn't sure if it would have been game over for me or not. Maybe I should have waited to find out and then reloaded if they were actually able to take it. I guess I panicked for nothing then, haha. It turned out the purchased archer was able to pick them off before the city was down to 0 health.

AFAIK, no one can raze (original) capitals in Civ6. Probably due to Domination victory being linked to them. They are reference “conquest” points that cannot disappear.

In the past they have been able to take your capital.

Even worse, in civ4 multiplayer you can lose ur capital from an ennemy starting warrior with worker start gambit in a couple of turns.
