Canadian Economic Stimulus

Didn't they already start it on Finch? I've been away to long to remember.

Also having it on Eglinton is not needed imo (i used to live on the street) We should move it up to Lawrence. I can get from my place in Toronto (At Eglinton and Mt. Pleasent) to Eglinton and Yonge in less then 3 minutes by bus.

Having worked at Y&E and having a friend work at Mt Pleasant and Eg, I completely agree. Also lawrence makes more sense since there's a UNIVERSITY THERE and the 162 runs like every 30 mins...

the only problem i can see with that is running on bayview-post to get back to lawrence might not go over so well.

Yes, however, at Mt Pleasant and Eglinton, you are the equivalent of a single LRT stop away from the subway. That is nice for you, considering about 6 routes converge there, however people upstream of you can have a torturously long ride when traffic is bad. The LRT there will be underground making transit impervious to traffic conditions, and giving it far higher capacity. There is also far more residential development along Eglinton. Lawrence is a ghost town in comparison. Yonge-Eglinton is also designated as a future growth node under the provincial "Places to Grow" plan. Oh, did you also notice it conveniently connects Kennedy to Pearson in a straight line? Eglinton-Don Mills is also an important location, and is perfect for greater intensification when it becomes the intersection of two LRT routes (Don Mills is getting LRT too).

Quite simply, Eglinton has the far higher transit demand. There are so many friggin people on that bus route, there will be substantial savings from simply having a single driver on a train rather than 3 drivers on three different buses. The best candidate for LRT upgrade is the road with the MOST bus traffic, not the least.

In fact, Eglinton would be a great candidate for a full-out subway, if they still built such things.

Damn, that'd be frakkin' awesome to see, but wouldn't the canals freeze up every year? Although I guess it would just alleviate the hockey rink shortage, it might wreak havoc on any piping system supplying the water.

We would fill the canals with municipal clean water and use the canal as a skating rink in the winter.

Did you know Calgary has the highest ridership of its LRT in all of North America!

276,800 for Calgary, Alberta
242,600 for Toronto, Ontario
257,400 for Boston, Massachusetts

About HSR.

How is getting off a train without a car any different than getting off a plane without a car? The only difference is that with a train you are usually in the centre of the city near transit and the actual destinations you are going to. With a plane you are usually in the middle of bum-freak nowhere, with at best endless acres of manufacturing surrounding you.

Indeed, it has to do with Calgary's super-dense downtown core relative to its size. It would be impossible to get that many people into that space with roads. They would literally need to add 20 lanes into downtown without the LRT, and the roads would still be massively congested.

It was confirmed today that they are building a streetcar system on Eglinton and Finch.

Eglinton's is huge, it would extend from Kingston(where the street begins), to the Airport.

I think that this is great, to bad i won't be visiting Toronto much more after this year. :(

With the YRT one and Finch coming in 2013, and Eglinton in 2016, in 4-7 years the city will be a much better one to live in. Finally the Libs do SOMETHING. :goodjob:
