Also, it's probably possible (though it's never been done) that she could sign a bill that would otherwise NOT come to pass. This assumes the GG denied it, or a Lieutenant Governor did. I.E. _SHE_ can give 'royal assent'. Lastly, she has 'diplomatic immunity' (by way of she cannot be tried in her own courts) when she is in Canada.

Er, Unless I've been horribly misinformed about how our government works, a bill has to pass through parliment before going up for the Queen/GG 's aproval. If the Canadian government didn't want the bill, it would never reach the Queen's hands.

You don't have a British Monarch rulling over you. She's Queen of Canada and has Canadian citizenship.

And the Monarchy should go once QE II dies, and I suspect it will.

Get back to me after the Queen passes away. I actually feel honoured to have a Queen and the Royal family.

I think Canada should kick out the monarchy, as we're not British and should not have a British monarch ruling over Canadian society. I really dislike being a "subject" of the British queen given that she only visits Canada once every, what, ten years? And I've never been East of Alberta. Also, I'm not a British citizen. You guys can have a monarchy, more power to you, but why should we have your monarch? We've outgrown you.

Poll coming.

I'm English and I couldn't care less either way :)

Frankly if Australia burned all images of The Queen and ran riot, It'd be mildly interesting but lets face it, it's a symbolic relation of cordiality; it's not like The Queen actually has any power, or real influence for that matter; I'm sure your PM doesn't sit there thinking, hmm maybe we should get royal assent on this one, Bill patch me through to Buckingham palace. Yea Liz, what do you think about gay marriage? Yes/no?;) :)

But then what would they put on thier money?!

Birds? Mountains? Weapons? Factories? Shipyards? Labourers? Any of those would do fine.

They're what the rest of us know as hockey sticks.

Alright, everyone whose country was never attacked by Japan, please raise your hand.

Are you saying Canada was never attacked by Japan, or Australia was never attacked by Japan. And what use does it have to see who has been attacked by who.

Well, I once was in a bar with some frenchmen, and having a disagreement about world politics with one of them, so I shouted loudly "everyone whose country has never been conquered by Germany, please raise your hand." That effectively ended the debate, one way or another.

Well, its not as if Australia was conquered by Japan, so a couple of attacks by the major 'enemy' of the region isn't unexpected.

Yeah, I wasn't really making much sense back there.
