Boot the monarchy out of Canada?

You guys are lucky, I wish America had a monarch. We should have never thrown them out.

You'd thought Canadians would be grown-ups by now... But no, they need their Nanny Queen.
Special kudos to the Quebecers, the only French subjects of her Majesty

GG should be elected by the people in a separate election from Parliament (election at a regular interval or by recall). GG has the power to dissolve Parliament, or refuse to allow dissolution Parliament in the case of a non-confidence vote, my logic being that since the GG is elected that will provide protection from spurious decisions on these matters. I like the idea of the GG refusing a dissolution so that in the case of minority Parliments, non-confidence votes can't be milked for a well timed election on part of the party in power.

GG represents Canada at all summits and meetings with other Heads of States and actually writes their own speech from the throne.

A potential problem is the elections could make the head of state (HoS) a partisan position. So, if the HoS is elected from the opposition, he/she can dissolve (or not dissolve) Parliament for partisan political reasons. The Speech from the Throne outlines the government plans for this session of Parliament, but that could be changed.

Another idea of a replacement for the monachy: instead of a president we simply have a "Council of State" (now Privy Council), where its President serves as a HoS, but holds no reserve powers. When the prime minster calls for an dissolves, it just dissolves.

You're just sore because you failed to hold onto Canada :)

Except France herself :mischief:

Yes! Yes yes yes! Boot them out of the UK, too! [henceforth to be known as Republic of Britain].
I am neither canadian or british, though.

Yes, but there is pressure on him to abdicate to William.
That just won't happen at all, it's media speculation deliberately invented for profit. Charles has already married Camilla, a divorcee. Edward VIII abdicated to marry a divorcee which was illegal then but no longer is.
You got it the other way around! the UK is the only country to have French kings! ;)
(well, besides Spain. Oh, and Sweden.)

Nah, everyone knows our royal family is German :p

get rid of it, i believe that britain should

We Swedes will hang on to our French royalty a while longer, since both the King and the Crown Princess are quite popular here :D
Besides, presidents aren't that cheaper to maintain... and I do prefer inbreds to politicians

Er, Unless I've been horribly misinformed about how our government works, a bill has to pass through parliment before going up for the Queen/GG 's aproval. If the Canadian government didn't want the bill, it would never reach the Queen's hands.

Yessir, but (as I clearly mentioned) if the GG did NOT give approval, SHE could. Though this has never happened, it is probably worth mentioning.

I can't stop laughing at this, even though it's not even a little funny.
