Hi All;

Hopefully someone can help me. Codex get stored on the libraries in cities.

Being Carthage cannot have more than one city, the capital. How will I get more Codex slots?

I tried looking for an option to build a library in my towns but no luck.

Am I missing something? I only have 3 slots in capital for them atm. Halfway through antiquity age

I've heard people saying there's actually a way to get more slots in the capital, but I haven't tried yet so not sure how.

Keep in mind, I am only 42% progress but there was a early tradition that gave me +1, thats all so far.

I believe they have a civic that allows them to hold one in Trade Outpost towns, plus they can be stored in academies.

It's not in the preview description we got, but the Carthaginian Civic "Sicilian Wars II" grants a great work slot in Trading Hub towns, making it very possible to get the Science Legacy.

Library and Academy buildings.
Nalanda wonder.
Sicilian Wars Mastery allows Towns with a specific focus to hold a codex.

I managed to complete the science legacy path just now. Sicilian Wars is essential — make sure to have a few trade outpost towns.

Yep, in my first go with them I got a lot of trade outposts (you have to commit to it, since you need to send food from the towns too - but they also helped in the happiness crisis) but ended up a Codex or two short in the end.
I like the puzzle of getting the balance just right for that.

You only get one slot per town, and you have to specialize it as a trade outpost. So you're basically throwing away about half your town output.
Trade outposts are nice and you only need as many of them as far you want to go with your science legacy path. You do this if you really want to go deep into this rabbit hole. As I wrote, while playing Carthage, getting enough science could be bigger barrier than codex slots.

With a trade outpost you sacrifice 4-6 food for 6 happiness (common example), it's hardly "half your output". (And if you need the codex slot, that's 2 science too)
And the trade range can help (admittedly it's hard to see what it does with the current UI)

You can either go with the trade post strategy or conquer yourself some libraries. They are a militaristic civ with really strong cavalry for a reason.
I thought I was going crazy reading all the replies here and no one mentioned conquering cities.

Carthage attributes:
  • Militaristic
  • Economic

They were mentioned in previous discussion on the same topic. But it's generally not reliable way of getting slots as you need opponents to build libraries.
