I'm trying to find out if this story is true, I've seen some dandy hoaxes in my time

This kitten was born with only one eye and no nose. Named Cy—short for Cyclopes—it’s shown here in a photo provided by its owner in Redmond, Oregon, on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005.

The kitten, a ragdoll breed, died after living for one day. It was one of two in the litter, and its sibling was born normal and healthy.

Careful if you're squeamish.

A photo of a one-eyed kitten named Cy drew more than a little skepticism when it turned up on various Web sites, but medical authorities have a name for the bizarre condition.

Another link gives it credence

New Scientist article sometime in the last ~5 years on a gene that needs its activity regulated carefully, or you get this OR double head depending on insufficient/excessive activity. If anyone can find a linky/remember the gene, I'd be grateful.

I say try to find a cat with one eyeball and get the dna to duplicate it somehow inorder to clone it.Hopefully a good one that can survive as long as a regular cat lifespan. It would be cool to be the only one to have a one-eye cat in my neighborhood.

This just proves that dogs are better then cats. Also, she's keeping the kitty corpse in her freezer?!

It's not unreasonable, if you consider that there may be some benefit to geneticists and medical science.

Heck, I've sent things into to scientists that I thought they'd be interested in.

Sadly, a freezer might make the kitten a little too gross to thaw.

Ha!Cats are better than dogs.Dogs make too much mess.

I would say that this is evidence that macro evolution can occur, yes? It didn't work out for this poor thing, but at least we can get new arrangements.

That thing is actually pretty cool looking. I don't particularly like cats, but I wouldn't mind having a cyclops cat, that would be awesome.

I've seen a one-eyed cat before. Though it was suffering from a different condition called "eye gouged out"
I've seen a hamster with port and starboard eyes. Left red from hemmorhage, right blue from cataracts. Not genetic!

Check google for human cyclops. The image is too gross to link, but at least it seems to be suffering from the same syndrome as the cat; No nose.

I saw this on torrentspy weeks ago and posters agreed that waking up with that in your face would be too frightening.

What a charming little freak!

I reckon it looks like a cloning experiment by Davros!

Would be cool, but mean for someone to selectivly breed a species of cycats :)

f1 generations would be worth thousands if not more :):):)

hmmm. I DO have to write a dissertation on something i guess... ;)

You're quite lucky, being in the UK, because your government is working towards being pro-cloning (I'm jealous). You'd need to trace the genes involved in this mutation, and then try to compensate for the non-viability.

There's a good chance to do real science (and profits, too) here.

bahahaha that's the funniest freak I've ever seen... and I've seen some FREAKS (both human and animal)
