Caveman 2 Cosmos

I installed the mod and the patch, but when I go to load it the game disappears for a while then pops up that the game stopped working.

Did I maybe install something wrong to cause this?

Do you have patch 3.19 for Beyond The Sword? What is the folder structure you have? It should look like; C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Caveman2Cosmos
Make sure the patch unzips to the /Mods directory, otherwise you'll have a folder named Caveman2Cosmos inside a folder Caveman2Cosmos.

Actually I did the same thing that I did with my Israel mod (Thank you modders who made this for including Israel. I don't get how the original devs CAN'T include them....) I put it in the My Games/Beyond the Sword/Mods folder. But I will put it where you and the person above you directed.

Nope, still doesn't work. Also, I don't think I am patched to 3.19

Ok, I patched up and I got the mod to load and I started a game. Then I got a whole lot of lag and an unending stream of messages about it failing to write INI files. I can't even remember the name and I don't think I can give you a bug log because it failed to write that too.

That is because it needs to write to the folder it is in and, I think, Win7 defaults to no write. I think you need write access to the folders starting at the "Beyond the Sword" folder because that is where C2C puts its mini dumps. The Caveman2Cosmos folder also needs to be written to.

Ok.......And....

You know, there is a difference between explaining the problem and giving the solution.

I'll try giving the program admin rights.

I do. I don't have win7 so can't tell you how to fix the problem. I still use XP so saying right click on the folder, select properties and make sure it is not read only does not help you. I suppose I could have said nothing instead and left you waiting.

Right, well anyway, it worked. I played till I got 3% on snails pace and I have a major complaint.

IT's too much at once.

The tool tips are massive, I tried to look at all the effects for David of Israel and I couldn't see the negative one. There are all those buildings and I think you are trying to do too much at once.

There are also the problems with the voices when tech is researched and other little things like loosing gatherers due to rogue pigions........

But it's too late to try and suggest improvements. Ya'll should be working on a Civ 5 version of this. I'll try to finish my game so I can at least say I did.

You do know that in the BUG options, you have a "hide" option there for buildings and lot of other things there, correct??!!

Next time I play, I will look into that.

I have all kinds of options checked and unchecked from the default that it is set on. I am like you i hate all those buildings showing up, so there is a hide what you dont want to see, same as when you go into the CITY area, you have alot of options there also, to find stuff by either :science: or :gold: or :culture: etc, thats why in EVERY game you play, there are NO 2 games alike, even if you pick the same civ , same map, and try to keep the same techs, its ALWAYs different.

first impression might be that it's too much, but they do a lot of work with balancing and AI so it's not really a problem, it just gives you a lot of choices on what to prioritize.

You have always been told in Civ that it is dangerous to let your workers and settlers out in the wilderness without an escort. Well now it is true.:mischief:

Actually its 10X more dangerous in C2C, because the animals, pop-up as fast as they can in the "fog" just to get your un-attended worker, even the next turn when nothing was there before.

Just glad you got rid of those stacks of 20 neanderthal barbarians spawning!
Monfang you can try playing with barbarians disabled until you get used to the immensity of C2C. You'll miss out on some of the things like capturing barb animals and such but it may make it easier for your first play through. Also, I always go to the BUG options and set it so unavailable buildings and worker options don't show in the hud. There are so many it would take forever to scroll through them all. I also enable the large icons. Maybe it's just my old eyes, but I really appreciate that!
I've been playing since version 9 I believe and never realize how massive this is.

I really would NOT disable barbs totally. Losing animals to hunt will wreck the prehistoric era.

One thing I noticed that got kind of frustrating is that when I have ships, explorers, etc out exploring there are so many animals that it takes forever for a turn, even with that new minimize turn option enabled. With that said, I love the subdue animal ability. Makes it much more useful to attack them.
To all involved; :goodjob: AWESOME MOD! THANK YOU! :goodjob:
