Caveman 2 Cosmos

Well, this forum has changed a bit. :crazyeye:

So, I have updated the SVN, and have decided to play a new game of this.

So, far, I have encountered one bug, the world_WiP doesn't seem to actually want to work, or generate a world.

How exactly long should I wait to see if it works, because an average Perfect Mongoose world only takes about a minute or so to allow me to play . World_WIP exploded and didn't do anything for several minutes.

That said, I saw a lot of changes in the SVN list, and I look forward to seeing them.
I know I just play this game so much, and then stop, and then come back, but that's just how I am.
Huh, it should be faster than Perfectmongoose.
I'll need to investigate this, what map options were you using?

I was actually about to ask the same thing. I'd tried it before and it was taking many minutes (10+?) to generate the world, and when it finally did so it was entirely grassland, no features or ocean. It seemed to work if I went with a Duel map size, but standard or even small was locking up. However, this was several SVN ago.

Most recently I've cleared the cache (at least I think I've done so, the files were recent so I think I got the right folder) and all other settings. It still takes longer than other mapscripts but now generates a workable map within a reasonable time frame (a few minutes). Not sure if that's because of the cache/settings or the changes you've made since my last attempt.

Generally: Standard, Medium sealevel, Rocky climate, Earth-like, 100% hill, 50% peak, 150% river, 200% resources, 7 or 8 AI (+1 versus standard map size), old world start.

Used to play with More Rivers and More Resources gameoptions, and thought that may be the problem, but turning them off didn't seem to have an effect on worldgen times.

My map options were standard size, Pangaea, all the default options, except for Low Sealevel. I also didn't get the options the second time related to the Pangaea map, where the start is locked because of Pangaea.

The first time was with extra resources.

I didn't even try to change anything on the other section, relating to maps the second time, like adding landmarks, and what not, and it still wouldn't work.

I don't know about how to clear the cache, but every time I update the game to play it, I delete everything inside the Caveman2Cosmos mod folder and paste it over from the SVN.

I have no clue what's wrong with the generation of the World_WIP on my end.
I could keep trying to generate a world with it, but it's weird.

Could anything on the options screen for game changing options, like no Revolutions, Extra rivers, etc, cause the game to lock up on the map type?

There are no general problems with World_WIP (and map generation has been greatly improved a few revisions ago). I don't use Pangaea and Low Sealevel myself (these two could perhaps cause problems, at least in combination), but otherwise there shouldn't be problems. I don't know anything about speed comparisons, though.

@David,
This is my quote from the Bug thread about cache clearing and User Settings folder when Updating your C2c copy from an older version:

"Please remember to clear your cache file Before you start a new game. And use the default SVN User Settings folder to start the new game. Then on your 1st turn go into BUG and reset All your favorite settings. Then Save game. And then Save a 2nd time. This stores all your settings from BUG in the User Settings file.

Cache file to clear for win 10 64 is in this path: C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Local\My Games\Beyond the Sword\cache. All other win OS is similar. Just empty/delete out the contents of that cache file/folder."

Perhaps you should copy paste this part of the post in a new text file and Save As with appropriate Name. That way you will have a handy reference. :)

Thank you, Toffer! I'll try another design of the map instead of Pangaea.
I'm just a big fan of Pangaea maps.

Thank you, as well, JosEPh, for pointing out about the Cache setting, and how to clear it.

I have a question about the atheist civic. I have a couple of cities I conquered that have religions that I want removed. The civlopedia entry states with atheism I can create inquisitor units to purge religions from cities that have my state religion present but then also states that with atheism I cannot have a state religion?

Good question. Will take some research. Maybe inquisitors ironically also require a state religion...

So, I can't even generate a map with World_WIP with Earthlike map. I am sad and not amused.
Oh, I just tested Archipelago or whatever, it doesn't work either.
What's weird is it no longer gives the same options as it did before the first crash at all.

The ones where it locks starting position if you try Dryland or Pangaea.

Also, I have no clue what the hell the SVN user Settings thing is. What esoteric mess is that? :p

Flushing the Cache did literally nothing to fix this map script. So it's completely broken only for me. :(

Also, all my actual map settings were there, so that's also kind of confusing.

Oh, and yeah, the mapscript was still broken even after copy/pasting the original one back. So, I really have no clue what happened and why it's settings completely changed.

Can anyone help me make this thing run? Because Perfect Mongoose thought I wanted a planet with a giant tundra/arctic circle where the Equator is normally. :) I do not feel like playing on Uranus-Earth.

Perhaps the mapscripts are drunk and need to go home.
I'll try to do Full of Resources again, but that takes forever to set up.
Okay, update, Full of Resources is broken and doesn't actually generate resources like it says it does.
I mean, it literally doesn't generate resources correctly, no matter how you set it up.

I at least got a decent Perfect Mongoose up and running. It's not amazing, but it's better than Tundra land. Even if I had to fix the land spawning by world builder connecting land masses.

David rants like that will just get ignored sorry to say.

The map is being worked on. Other maps like Perfect Mongoose work just fine. As do most others.

I know you have trouble following instructions, patience on your part is required to overcome them.

Excuse me?! I never attacked you, and I had a lot of respect for you, which I completely lost when you thought it was funny to be rude for no reason..

I don't have trouble following instructions. I explicitly asked why it wasn't working, and also how to do the SVN user settings thing.
I can't follow instructions without you actually explaining them fully! That's common sense. Tell me how to do the SVN user settings thing, help me figure out why the map won't work. Don't ignore my request for help, because you don't know how to respond to a simple rant that is nothing at all compared to other walls of text put on this topic.

So, tell me how to do everything you asked, without dismissing my complaints. Seriously, I asked for help, yes, I was frustrated.

A good way to make everyone here no longer like you, including StrategyOnly, who is essentially your boss, is to go after me of all people.
I may have a mental disorder, but no one reacts well to what you just did. You can't just dismiss valid complaints because it's a rant, when I'm trying to understand what happened.
That is the very incarnation of laziness and rudeness.

Maybe you had a bad day.

Oh shut up! :p

JosEPh

I'm not going to shut up, because you're not going to drive me away from playing this modpack.

I love this modpack, and I've played it for years. I asked specifically how to do the SVN thingy you asked me to do.
Can you please tell me how to do that, or are you going to continue to harass people with Asperger's, which is against the forum rules I'm pretty sure.

I don't see why a simple request must result in violent hatred. Honestly boggles my mind.

I apologize for any problems I have caused you.

I do not understand, I honestly, don't understand what I did to deserve this.

I know I ranted, but you should know, I don't react well to that kind of thing. I get frustrated. It's how I am.
I work on it, I take medication for it. I am trying. I'm 34 years old.

I just simply do not understand why you overacted in such a hostile manner.

I would like to repair my relationship here. I am sorry for causing problems.

I'm not sure what your problem with the user settings is.
Are you talking about the "\Mods\Caveman2Cosmos\UserSettings" folder ?
If that folder only contains a CustomDomAdv folder, then you have to start a new game through "play now" and adjust the mod settings that are found right over the research/tax slider. The button has an image of a grasshopper head (BUG options).

Make sure to make a backup of the - now your personal - UserSettings Folder, or make sure not to delete it whenever you delete all files in the mod folder to prepare for an export of newly updated SVN content.

Thank you for explaining it!
I was wondering what he meant by that.

I'm sorry for getting irritated with the map script for not working. Besides, no matter how awesome it is, nothing can beat Uranus-Earth from Perfect Mongoose, because it acted like it was Earth tilted on it's side.
I should concentrate on more important things to be irritated by, like losing a 99% to win battle in the base CIV4 BTS. . :p

Random events seem to be a bit slow to show up, but that's usually my luck. It's fun getting the Herbalism one with only a single city with only 1 pop. :)
Can't lose!
Sorry for causing problems, don't mean to do so.

I think Joe may be confusing you with someone else

OH. Okay. That would make sense!

If that is indeed the case, I really do apologize. Let's all just pretend like that never happened.
Like we try to do about Master of Orion 3. :)
