Caveman 2 Cosmos

@Modders: I am going to be gone for the next week or so and will not be modding for that time. I will still hopefully be able to check in on the forums though. If there are any bugs with my stuff in the next week feel free to fix it. I will be back by next weekend or so and can resume modding then.

It's possible but it would not really work well for Civ. Several reasons why I think this:
  1. It wouldn't coexist sensibly with the commerce sliders that choose where your commerce goes (science vs gold vs culture vs espionage) unless you made ALL of those city averages (which just wouldn't make sense for gold for example)
  2. It would require rescaling of the entire tech tree, since obviously your total science output wouldn't increase exponentially as now - it would basically mean that tech costs would have to ramp up only slightly, and linearly through the tree (which would also make researching deep techs in a beeline far easier than currently)
Also, though it's only a minor point, not a easoto reject the general approach, I don't think average output is the right choice. If you want to do something along those lines taking the output of the best scientific city makes the most sense (adding lots of idiots trying to do research doesn't prevent your elite team making progress)

Keep up the good work.

Sometimes i wonder if this mod will end up having a size larger than the actual vanilla BTS

The massive volume of effort in modding it would take to create such an option and expect it to harmonize with all other options without making drastic changes to every building in the game would be rather prohibitive. It's an interesting idea but not a light adjustment by any means. Koshling's 'best city' approach seems to fit the concept a bit more accurately I think... but it would still take some serious dedication to adjust things for that system and keep it in balance.

Honestly, something like that would be better for a completely different mod, not an "add-on" to this one.

+1. We would have to reedit every building..all 1750+ of them!!

Hello,

what's the deal with the beakers and tech rates? It seems to me that some techs are more expensive than what is show. For example on the top left of my overview it shows I get 200 beakers per turn, but it takes 5 turns to research a tech which should only be 600 beakers, as it is shown when I hover the mouse cursor over the tech bar.

That's either the intended result of my changes in V23, or a display bug, I'm bot quite sure which.

Edit: Actually, I think that it's both. I can't confirm This as I am far away from my molding computer, but the display may not properly handle the BBAI techcost tag's effects. Could someone else please look into this?

Does anyone know where I can find a somewhat detailed explanation as to how to download this mod? I've been trying to get it to work for months but can never seem to succeed, I really want to play this mod and my lack of success is discouraging :(

There is no need for a "detailed" explanation. The download link is in the first post in this thread, you download the link to a folder on your computer, you use a uncompressing program to extract the zip, you put the final folder in your SMCIV4\BTS\mods folder. You start BTS (patched to 3.19) and choose advanced>load mod.

EDIT---the other links in that post (leaderheads, etc) won't work with Internet Explorer as that browser doesn't work with Gamefront. You must use another browser (eg, Firefox works), but those files aren't needed for the game anyway.

EDIT#2---I see from another post of yours that you downloaded it fine, but just can't run it. Ignore my patronizing post above and follow the advice you were given in the other thread---run smaller maps or get a better computer.

Actually C2C art is bugger than all Civ IV combined, Vanilla,Warlords and BtS, they all total 993 MB, while C2C totals 1.2 GB of just art.

If you take the C2C shortcut from were it says regular games in the attached and place a copy of it on your "desktop" it should work, as long as you have Win7, make lower but i dont know for sure.

Also there is a Saved Games shortcut one, that way you dont hove to go through all the loading process you just go to saved games and click and your at your last game POOF.

That one works in Vista (64 bit as well), but only if you installed your Civ4/BTS in the default location. Many of us don't even install on the C: drive, let alone the program files (x86) folder. If you are using a 32 bit OS or installed elsewhere, you must edit that shortcut for it to work.

Ok, soo! This mod is cool but i find it un-playable because of an error! :( When ever I play it, I get this huge chunck of error message (in white) in the chat window (its so long it covers almsot my whole screen) and a new one pops up every turn, insuring that there is always a long list of weird errors all ove my screen. The mod it self works, but I can hardly see past all the error messages... please help?

A screen dump may help, but it sounds like you may have too much logging on. Go to the BUG options (Cntl-Alt-O) go to the logging tab, you will need to scroll right. Check that the screen logging is set to Error or None.
