Everyone knows Monarchy so we cannot resell it anywhere. Anyway, the Arabs are the richest AI at 18 gold, followed by the Vikings at 17 gold and then the Mongols. No great tech profit this turn.

State of War with Iroquois
Disorganized, mostly due to the Mongol war and responding to wandering Iroquois units. We do have units on the Iroquois border, and even one vSword inside the border, but nothing strong enough or concentrated enough to begin an offensive.

Our Mongol stack of doom is 4 catapults, 3 Swords and 3 workers. One sword in elite, one of the vetarans is slightly wounded. They are walking on unroaded tiles until they get to Stuttgart, 4 turns from now.

Around Cologne we have 3 swords, all wounded, none on roads. Other military units are in borders cities.

I think our first Iroquois target should be Centralia, their northernmost city. I don't like that; I would rather march through Mauch Chunk down to Niagara Falls for The Statue of Zeus. But Centralia, even though built in the midst of jungle, could threaten Hamburg, Leipzig and Cologne. Razing this city shortens our borders with Iroqouis. But since the jungle is not roaded, it is a major diversion of our efforts. I wonder if it might be better to leave some defenders in these three cities, ignore Centralia, and focus on the cities on the plains and desert.

Iroquois do not have a source of Horses. Vikings do, but it is being used. Mongols do not appear to have a source of Horses, either. Babylon does have an extra Horse.

We can get Vikings to MA vs. Iroquois for Monotheism. They will even give us all their cash, 17 gold pieces. This trade would prevent Viking Horses from being traded to Iroquois. The Great Libary is in Karakorum, Mongolia, so if we do trade Monotheism to the Vikings we are giving it to the Mongols as well. In that case, we might as well sell Monotheism to the Arabs for their 18 gold.

I favor the second idea. In itself, Centralia is not a productive town, and with all the jungle, movement is slow there, so we will see them coming. After peace with the mongols, leave 1 pike and 1 MDI in Hamburg, Leipzig and Cologne. Once our initiative to the W gets going, get these 3 MDI and the pike from Leipzig to kill Centralia.

This is really why I stopped in mid-turn. Mauch Chunk is gone, but where do we go next?

Niagara Falls has not yet built The Statue of Zeus. It would be nice if they built it for us, but I don't know how long we can wait. No one else is building this wonder. I don't really care if they build it or not. That Ivory is more important than the Wonder.

The workers are all 'moved'. Only military units are left to allocate. I think one catapult is still free to be moved.
 
Allegheny is bigger and on a hill, but it is closer. Cattaraugus needs to go so we get access to the Ivory, so I think we should go that way. Since it is on desert, it won't have the big defensive bonus either. I'll get to this after I finish my other SG turns.
 
I know this is gazing into the future a bit so actual events could change how this works.

Whether we keep Niagara Falls or raze/replace it, we face an issue of having a trade route over a lot of land tiles. Since we'll be razing a lot of cities, the AI's will try to build in the empty spots. Those cities could interrupt our land route of Ivory as it connects to Berlin.

Which is a rather longwinded way of saying that a Harbor in Niagara Falls might be a good idea.
 
I agree. I also am thinking that we will want to raze Niagara Falls and build our own town on top of the Ivory, so we only lose the Ivory if we lose the city.
 
I don't mind razing Niagara Falls, but what if The Statue of Zeus has been built? Is it worth keeping?

I can see where the Ancient Cavalry could be nice, since we don't have any Horses connected right now. The other consideration is the flip risk of the city. It is size 5 right now; capturing it would make it size 4; hmm; still sorta iffy on the flipping, even if we squelched all resistance on the first turn of occupation.

I would risk the flips to keep the SoZ, should it be built. If it isn't built, we build it. Having a mobile attacker is very important at Emperor. Not a gamebreaker, but it makes a game more winnable.

Some ideas: We need some happy juice. Might I suggest a phony war? I think Babylon or America would make a fine target, they are Backward and across the ocean. Trades: I wonder what the Arabs would give for Invention. Might we get Theology even-up? They will give 59 gpt for Engineering! And then Theology for Invention and 125 gold. Very tempting...

I had a sickly weekend and turns due in other games.

I've downloaded the save but little more than that.

I'll try to change all that soon.
 
I know this is gazing into the future a bit so actual events could change how this works.

Whether we keep Niagara Falls or raze/replace it, we face an issue of having a trade route over a lot of land tiles. Since we'll be razing a lot of cities, the AI's will try to build in the empty spots. Those cities could interrupt our land route of Ivory as it connects to Berlin.

Which is a rather longwinded way of saying that a Harbor in Niagara Falls might be a good idea.
lurker's comment: Well, even if AIs block the roads to the German Reich (;)), there are always harbors which work just as fine in linking up the ivory.
I would risk the flips to keep the SoZ, should it be built. If it isn't built, we build it. Having a mobile attacker is very important at Emperor. Not a gamebreaker, but it makes a game more winnable.
Meh, from all the Emperor games I've played, flip risk has never been much of an issue if you starve the town to pop one and manage to secure the area. :)

Maybe I'll try a turnset later, but for now, I'm brainstorming a variant for a possible SG (or story).
