CC1 SG: Emperor of the Ancient World

Carbon: you could have named the game RBD. The "franchise" so to speak, has more to do with the people involved in organizing the games, than the objectives/rules/restrictions involved. Or so I presume. :) Charis gave us the green light to name any game we start with the Realms Beyond initials, and he's the Old Man, the essential webmaster and most glorious spokesman hailing from Realms Beyond -- in some cases, WAY beyond! But that's another story. :)

Here's what I think the layout should go. This can and probably will change depending on how things turn out later, like what resources show up where, etc.

The white city radius is Athens, and the dark blue one is Sparta, shown after it eventually expands its borders. I would probably send the settler to the purple dot first, it claims the incense lux in its 21-tile radius and will be an important city in its own right eventually. After the purple dot we should settle either of the dark green or red city areas in whatever order pleases. These have some overlap with each other, and in time we'll decide who gets to lend out the good tiles to whom. The southern red one in particular has some bad overlap and probably will never get a hospital if it comes to that.

The bright purple one is a "get to it when you can" spot to settle, unless iron shows up there, in which case we should get to it as soon as possible. It will probably never grow large enough to ever worry about overlapping with sparta.

The yellow dot, unless we see something amazing just beyond what we've explored, is probably our best spot for a Forbidden Palace. That lake is also just about the only source of fresh water on our landmass besides the river Athens and Sparta are on. I am unsure whether we should settle where I drew the radius, or if we should scoot over to the BIG RED DOT. Big Red Dot gives us less overlap but leaves some hills to waste in favor of grabbing desert(?)(...or is that plains?). Yellow dot has more overlap and the cities around it won't interlock as nicely. I suppose we'll just have to burn that bridge when we cross it :flamedevi . The light greeen dots are cities we should found after the yellow dot to solidify our borders and form the inner ring of our inner core cities. The orange dots in the southwest are just speculation, and that part of the dot map will likely change as we progress.

I know I could have and nobody would have minded, but this game (to me) just didn't seem to belong in the series. So I put CC in front of it instead of RBD. Of course, this was before we discovered that we are likely totally alone on a gigantic island in the middle of the world. I didn't think leaving us two civs short of a full map would have given us THIS much elbow room (I wanted a change from landing directly under India in RBD4...you could say I got my wish!!!). We had better get the Great Library or we'll be toast technologically. Is there anything we can use to prebuild it yet?

Firstly, let's keep the potential spoilers to a minimum. I didn't state it explicitly, but we should be playing a no-reload style (unless the game crashes etc. etc., but the autosaves work fine now so you'll never have to redo more than one turn), and picking up a save file and playing around with it when you're not up can lead to you finding out things about the map or AI wonder finish dates that aren't known until later in the game. Axid, I'm not upset about it, let's just keep it off the thread until after the turn in question is posted for the future.

Hammurabi, will you be able to get a turn summary up at all? Did we meet any new friends (or enemies? ...So lonely... ) How's our progress on the Great Library?

In other news, Axid's up with Schnarrd on deck. Good luck on your turn and let's get building! :hammer: (what else can we do?)

Turn order:

CC
Shadowlord
Hammurabi II
Axid >>up
Schnarrd >>on deck

i won't mention anything else again before the other person. sorry:rolleyes:

i've go tthe file now and will try to get it posted sometime today. it may not be possible though. i'll let you know what happenes

As the last king dies he tells his counselor that he wants Axid son of Axis to become king. And the he dies.

Here is the record of king Axid, judge his decisions for yourself.

1250BC- Axid uses the band of settlers up in the mountains to found the city of Corinth , he then commands that they build a Temple.

1225BC- Barbarian’s decide to try they’re luck, and find out they have none.

1200BC- A tribe is found.

1175BC- The legion of hoplites disturbs a village and they are angry, three warrior’s rise to challenge him.

1150BC- The three warriors have no luck and are killed, but a horseman is spotted in the hills and the hoplite fortifies.

1125BC- The horseman attacks and we do not even get hurt. A warrior is completed at Sparta and a temple is started. I decide that the temple at Thermopylae needs to be hurried and give them a bit of encouragement.

1100BC- A garrison of hoplites is started in Thermopylae. I whip the people of Athens to finish the temple.

1075BC- A hoplite is started in Athens. Grim new I’m afraid. The Babylonians have finished the Pyramids in Babylon.

1050BC- We are attack twice by horseman no harm.

950BC- Literature is discovered. I start work on philosophy.

900BC- A road to Corinth is finished.

850BC- Hoplite in Thermopylae is completed, a settler is started. A barbarian warrior attacks us, we win.

825BC- We attack a barbarian horseman and win. A barbarian horseman attacks us and we win. Athens builds a hoplite, the Great Library is started.

800BC- We attack a barbarian camp and kill a warrior but there is still at least one horseman in it. We also start a road to bring in some incense.

And with that king Axid dies.

We are all alone. The indians are on an island next to us and we need more cities.

and here's the game

Momentarily confused there since the posting wa outof order. :crazyeyes Got it, though.

I edited the first post where I said I had no time to post then, and put the post, so no one else will get confused:D

Hey Schnarrd-Go Tribe!!:)

Looks like I'll have to pass this one off. :( Had time enough for the Cretan variant yesterday, but I won't be able to get to the game today, and I won't have access to my computer over the weekend. :( :(

Anyway, here's the roster.

Carbon Copy >>> Up Next
Shadowlord >>>On Deck
Hammurabi II
Axid
Schnarrd

Oh, and Hammurabi: Yeah, hopefully that Robbie Alomar trade didn't hurt us too badly. Go Tribe! (Drat, no Chief Wahoo smiley! ;) )

I personally can't play until Sunday, so if you can fit a turn in sometime before then, go ahead and play. I have no problem with this game going slowly, so if any of you can fit in a turn within 72, go ahead and keep with it.. I don't want you guys who have a bunch of games running at once to have to make tough decisions as to what game you play and what you pass...if possible, I'd like for everyone to miss as few turns as possible, even if this game gets put on ice for a day or two.

OK, I'll see if I can fit a turn in on Sunday. Thanks for your patience. :)

I also have no problems with this going slowly. I'm in another SG that's going fast, so this way my parents don't get too mad :)

i'm in the same situation as hammurabi, actually the same game, so i too have no prob with it going slowly.
