CCM (epic mod) preview thread

Could you be more specific about the problem with SGLs?

For scenarios and mods that were finally treated with editor version 1.03 (the version with the last updates for C3C) there doesn´t exist the option to receive SGLs any longer. That option was broken by Firaxis with that version of the editor. For scenarios or mods that were finally done with the old editor 1.00 that was coming with the original C3C, the option to receive SGLs is still available (if the conditions for a SGL are met).

There is an easy test, if your scenario or mod can produce SGLs or not. If the (hardcoded) option to receive SGLs is still "blued out" the scenario or mod has the option to give SGLs when the conditions are met. If this option in the starting screen is not blue, a civ can´t get a SGL, even if it mets all conditions and the settings in the editor are in favour of SGLs.

Best is to show it with two screenes:

Here is the SOE Player Setup done for a SOE-biq with editor 1.00. Scientific leaders are allowed for that scenario:

Here is the SOE Player Setup done for the same SOE-biq with editor 1.03. Scientific leaders are not longer available for that scenario (so the settings in the editor are still the same as for the first biq):

In CCM SGLs are allowed and it is proofed, that they really can appear. :)

Thanks for the explanation.

I'll test it. If it's not a problem in the editor, but in the game, I won't be able to fix it (ie if the game cannot read properly the latest file format).

If it's just an error when saving the biq in the editor, it may work.

It is an error in the editor. If you open a biq done with editor version 1.03 with the editor 1.00 and than save it, the biq will allow SGLs.

If you open a biq done with editor version 1.00 with the editor 1.03 and save it, the biq will not allow SGLs.

Editor version 1.00 has Bic file version 12.06.
Editor version 1.03 has Bic file version 12.08.

These stats stand in the help-option of the editors.

The difference lays mainly in additional multiplayer functions, what means editor 1.00 is better suited for single player scenarios and mods, while editor 1.03 is better suited for multiplayer scenarios and mods.

Exactly. So the problem could be that the editor doesn't save the SGL option in the 12.08, or it could be the game that read the 12.06 and the 12.08 differently, and wronlgy for 12.08

congrats old friend on getting over that hump :) the civ3 community is really going to love this :D

Thanks bud. :) I think 2009 could be a very good year for the fans of Civ 3 with all the fine new scenarios and mods appearing on the Civ 3 horizon. :)

... and units. ;)

Sandris, concerning Civ 3 units, I think even 2008 was a very good year. :)

Here I show you one of the most dangerous moments of fighting in CCM: The Mongolian Swordsman with his feared low hits - and this with a sword!
No wonder, that all people did run away and the Mongols could form a big empire.

But what shall I do ? I like the Mongolian Swordsman. :)

Another question about SGL... In what page of the editor can you edit them??

I mean, the names are in the civilization, but where can you say what unit is a SGL?

The best is to show it with two screenes:

But all this settings at present are only working, if editor 1.03 is not used.

In 1.03 the last field under "Special Actions" is "Start Science Age".

The On-Line Helpless is even more than usually cryptic: "If checked, the selected unit can begin a "Scientific Age," which is one of the two special capabilities of a scientific leader."

The other is "finish Great Wonders in 1 turn" - and that´s what SGLs are really needed for. This is an old capability of the GLs before SGLs were introduced. The Scientific Age is broken from start in C3C.

So the "Special Action" "Finish Improvements" does nothing?

It seems I haven´t expressed that clearly enough :):

The important function of a SGL is to finish improvements. The SGL can finish all kind of improvements. The difference of the SGL to a battle created GL is, that the SGL also can finish Great Wonders while the battle created GL in C3C only can finish normal buildings or Small Wonders. That´s why the SGL should be used to get an important Great Wonder in the next turn.

The SGL in reality is a Great Architect.

So would it be posssible, with the appropriate flags checked, to have, say, a University turn out SGLs?
