Center of The Galaxy

Yeah. Not worth it. The cutscene and reward are nice, but not worth the major headache to get there(and the subsequent Grox raids after you do get there).

It feels like it would take hundreds of hours to expand all the way to the center. Do people just make a decent sized empire and then travel there?

I made the Grox my friends... totally Über

has anyone managed to reach the center of the galaxy in the space stage?
Yeah, just buy a lot of repair kit things and energy and launch from planet to planet until you find some planets that keep going in towards the circle.

I found a wormhole that took me right to the middle, but there were no stars close enough.

I don't know if the late stage of the game is really worth playing, the warfare is just too wierd.

In my fifth game, the Telaskims of Zolan game (the one I spent the most time developing), I would up at war against the Grox around when I got badge level 10. They did manage to wipe out the colony of one T1 planet twice, but they weren't so lucky elsewhere.

I made it my business to have it where just about every colonized celestial body in my empire would get to Terraform level 3, be maxed in cities (and stuff in them), and have uber turrets (among a few other things like Bio-protectors). Although playing at Easy may have helped, these planets were so heavily defended that they stood up against Grox raids (with out my help) and won time and time again. Even if I'd have to visit some time afterward to replace lost structures.

Soon I took the fight to the Grox, carving huge chunks of territory away from them. Strangely, systems that once belonged to them started gaining intelligent life, albeit Tribal and Civ-level. So I got some monoliths and started to uplift them. I used them for recharges and reheals. I'd go to a Grox system, destroy the cities, then return to one of the uplifted empires for repairs and recharges. It would've helped if there weren't uncrosseable gaps on my way toward the core, though. They were a pain to try to go around.

I soon realized that the ability of my planets to handle the Grox on their own meant I could go where I please, even during a Grox raid on one of my planets. Or even colonize planets encroaching toward Grox territory. I started with making colonies at other ends of wormholes leading deep into Grox territory. From there I could hit-and-run my way to the core. Which I did. :D

Some considerable amount of time later, while looking for Earth (I'm still looking, by the way.) I decided to return from checking damage at another near-core Grox raid. Except I flew my craft toward the core by mistake. When I got there, I made a decision: to take out the Grox installments of the closest star system to the core.

The third city I captured instead of destroyed. I now control the single closest star system to the Galactic core.

I proceeded to set up six cities on two planets right away. (Then I ran out of colony packs and would have to wait or something to make more cities.) But soon enough, I got more of those packs and took control of the next to systems closest to the Core.

By the way, whenever I play another Spore game, one of the fastest means of getting rich is to reach the Telaskim empire and trade spice like there's no tomorrow. ^^

I now wonder: what happens if I manage to completely wipe out the Grox?

Anon, I bet your empire is 100 times bigger than any I had the patience to build, hehe. It seems after a while I didn't really have any goal. And no goal I could set for myself seemed enjoyable to pursue.

You suddenly come out of hibernation and wonder where your life has gone. :D

Well, I have had some rather high ambitions for that game, to push the limit of what could be done there. And patience to boot, apparently. At least I'm wise enough to take some breaks every now and then. ^^;

I actually don't think that empire of mine has 100 world colonized yet. Then again, I haven't counted them.

hehe... last week I jumped into 1 wormhole, and on the other side there is another one, which took me to the center of the galaxy. :)

Don't think I've met the Telaskim empire yet... Do they pay you much more for spice?

There are a few quick wormholes that will do the trick but I just stocked up on all sorts of weapons and made a hard push into the core after amassing a sizeable empire (all planets being t3 and well clustered enough to hold off invasion, all of the items that prevent natural disasters from ruining them if I leave for a few minutes, ect).

The key is holding a bunch of colony packs with you and planting them in a lightly defended/uninhabited system whenever you need a recharge in grox territory, they'll essentially be disposable and will get wiped out shortly after you leave in most cases. Planet buster bombs are also handy, as are the ones that will wipe out a city in one shot. The reward is more a novelty than anything.

The Telaskim are unique to my copy of Spore, because they are of my creation. That's the empire I played as where I got to the galactic core and all that.

So, is the cutscene obvious that it's a Black Hole at the Center? I just watched a (6 minute) talk where scientists mapped the orbits of the suns orbiting the center, and they orbit a black hole. On the camera scene (they show it), it looks like they're orbiting nothing.
