CFC.COM, the MES/NES: A Second Chance

"...What the hell is that accent?" Leon mumbled aloud, shooting Victor a glare. "And why are so few of us without any personality disorders?"

He tapped his fingers on the table. "And somebody get me a higher chair, bloody discrimination."
"I happen to be sane. And i carry on better conversations than that lunatic."

"Your helmet looks Italian, how the hell do you speak English anyways..."

"Nope. I'm fine." Alex was saddened by these insults to his teammates mental capacities. They were all on the same team.

"That depends on your definition, now doesn't it? In my world, you'd be considered insane. Fro about two days. Then you'd be dead. "

@Milarqui: I can be the pilot again, but I don't think I want to bring Jade back again. Not really a fan of the character. Could I instead be a cyborg? :D

Well, you could be, but then it defeats the whole idea I had for Jade returning. Maybe you could be a cyborg from the world the group is going to (I'd have to push back my intended first mission a bit, though).

"In the desert, it's more than just a good idea to be sane. If you're not, you're dead. I trust there are a few of our number who can keep a level head."

Nah, I don't want to screw with your plans twice. :p I'll just have my character from a different world.

"I am not sure if you looked out the window lately, hon, but we are in space. Go out there and it doesn't really matter if you are sane or not because you are dead."

Ario Palermo

"This is insane. You are all insane. You too, gladiator*. As I understand it, we are fighting against...what, pagans? Demons? I thought I had already served my time, but I suppose not. But I will do as God has commanded of me. My experience with both the dark arts and medicine may come of use in our mission.

"Savoldelli, are you Italian? I must admit I have never heard of Abianti before."

*Directed towards Zenon. Ario doesn't know the difference.

OOC: Sorry, I thought I would have until after Christmas a bit.

"Your helmet looks Italian, how the hell do you speak English anyways..."
"Technically, I am. My helmet has a translator which changes what you hear to the language each of you knows. Or so I'm told. I never really look at the specs of small things like that. However, it can malfunction, and some words do not translate over well, especially the word "dog" into Sothrolander. That mistake may or may not have almost caused a war..."

"Indeed, I am from what you call 'Italia.' Abianti...Well, it has a lot of conquered lands. The main city is located in north-and-eastern Italia, on the coastline (OOC: a bit southeast of Venice). I have no idea what you would call it."

"Ah glad to see that no matter where you are, or apparently what universe your in, there are always and abundance of crazies and freaks. The name's Wesley and it looks I'll be your medic for this merry team of lunatics, still beats diving into a Pre-Ruin bunker for some MacGuffin so a noble can poke poor people with it."

Spoiler :
Riley struck a match on the heel of his shoe and lit a cigarette. The pale corporate executive sitting across from him recoiled at the sight.

"You are lucky that Omnitech regulations do not apply within a neutral zone," the executive commented diplomatically. "Otherwise I would be required to-"

"Save it," Riley interrupted, taking a puff and blowing smoke into the air. "You're just lucky I'm here. After all, Omni jurisdiction only extends so far, right?" Riley leaned back and put his feet up on the desk, ignoring the scandalized looks from the pale faced man. "So, what does the big cheese want this time? Muscle? Drilling rights? Test subjects?"

"Stop playing dumb, vagabond," the executive said briefly. "You know exactly why this meeting was requested, and from what I understand, so do the TPD."

Riley paused thoughtfully, taking a second long drag on the coffin nail.

"I must admit, you impressed us. For Omnitech to lose one of the M3's is a-"

"Excuse me?"
"I believe the term used in the Uncontrolled Territory is 'Biobot'," the executive said tersely. "To continue, Omnitech HAS been keeping the new Biobot models quite secure. To capture any model, let alone a military variety, is quite the accomplishment."

"Hey, I'm an overachiever," Riley said with a shrug.

"In any case, we would be willing to, ah, buy back the particular model you have acquired," the executive said coolly. "JB56 represents a substantial investment of Omnitech resources, thus material wealth of any sort is no object."

"Oh, is that what you call that model?" Riley asked, snuffing out the cigarette and drawing a fresh one. "My guys couldn't find the designation, just a name. Jade. That was the donor's name, I presume?"

The executive went slightly more pale, in itself an impressive feat. "I was not informed of that level of information."

"Not likely," Riley countered. "You know exactly why Tango wants their pilot back. We did a little looking into that machine of yours. All the normal bits and wires are there, but it surrounds human tissue. Heart, lungs, sensory nerves, even a little bit of brain matter. I'm sure that a lot of people living in Omnitech Territory wouldn't be happy to find out you've been harvesting the glorious dead for your elite mooks."

The executive frowned slightly afterwards, and excused himself. Standing up, he took a few steps away and put a hand to his earpiece. No doubt getting orders from someone higher up on the food chain, Riley thought. After a few minutes, the executive returned and took his seat without a word.

"You are aware that our usage of the M3 models are entirely legal. The...donor signed a contract giving us full usage of her-"

"Yeah yeah, I get the picture. And frankly, I don't give a damn about the crap you hide in the fine print. The Uprising, though...I bet they would care." Riley leaned forward slightly, a leering grin creeping across his face. "Omnitech harvesting the dead for their little science experiments. The Uprising would pay in the billions for information tarnishing the good name of Omnitech. Who knows what the blissfully oblivious residents of Omnitech territory would say?"

"Like I said, we would be willing to name a price..."

"Omnitech money is good only in Omnitech territory. Out here, I wouldn't wipe myself with those rags." Riley reached into his jacket, and he was pleased to see the executive give a slight start. Rather than a gun, he took out a sheet of paper with a list of names.

"I have ten very close friends, pal," Riley said with an almost casual air. "At the moment though, they're being held by the Charlie Branch about a thousand miles south of here. They go free, you get your robot." The executive took the sheet, briefly glanced over it, then put it into his jacket pocket.

"Very well, your friends will be released as soon as possible. We'll contact you with the pickup date."

The two shook hands and departed out separate doors. As soon as he left the room, Riley's own earpiece buzzed to life.

"Nice job, sounds like you did it. We'll prep Jade for-"

"I didn't do a damn thing. They aren't going to follow through with that."

Silence fell as Riley strode towards his motorcycle, an old gas-powered model. Very rare since Omnitech phased out oil as a fuel source, but more reliable than electric.

"I've done a lot of backroom deals Jester," he continued. "If they were even considering a deal, that stiff would have confirmed it over his headset first."

"Great. So what do we do now?"

Riley mounted the bike and turned the key. The engine rumbled to life, not quite drowning out Riley's words.

"Trash the robot."

"WHAT?"

"You heard me Joker, trash it. Tango Branch will tear us up trying to get to that thing. Not worth the double profit."

"But weren't we going to hand the robot over to the Uprising with their agents and-"

"Then Tango will tear us up until they find out where the robot went. We'll destroy the robot, then tell the Uprising to pick up the robot at the place Omni tells us. They fight, we escape with the Uprising's money, and that's that."

"Alright, man..." Joker responded, hesitating slightly. "Omni won't be happy though..."

"Grow up Joker. Omni can send all the Tango Peacekeepers they want, we'll all be gone by the time they figure us out, and the robot will be dead and buried."

"Assuming we can even destroy it..." Joker commented.

"Simple. Remember that old A-Bomb we found the other day?"

Silence.

"You want me to use the atom bomb on it?" Joker said lightly.

"Not now, of course. Strap it to the robot, and leave it for Omni and The Uprising to fight over. Once we're all away, we set it off. Everything within a mile gets incinerated, the evidence falls apart, and we'll be on a beach in the neutral zones of the Caribbean in days."

The pop of the headset told him that Joker had signed off. Had he agreed? Riley would have to find out once he got back.

@Milarqui: I went for an alternate universe version of Jade Byrne so you could still use your idea. Perhaps the "guys upstairs" could have attempted to retrieve Jane, but picked up the wrong version?

...

"Well, then. I'm sure sanity is still going to be useful at some point. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong."

"Might. Can't tell yet. Sometimes insanity is good. Or, at least taking big risks is good. Pays off well, I've found. Conquered a whole nation at the risk of losing a whole army if I failed.
It worked."

"Insanity is always useful! They said I would be insane to make a Clothes Undrier, a machine that wets your clothes! They said it would never sell! And I showed them! It didn't sell at all! But who cares? Because SCIENCE!"

"Nope I was wrong, that lethal hole in the ground is sounding better and better."
