CFC Memes

I think that "Garbage Day" by gangleri is definitely becoming a meme, saw it at least five times in the last week alone.

I don't get that one?

PS: That's not a CFC meme, that's a personal meme.

Quildavyr is now a meme

Gary Denke and long rambling posts citing obscure sites and referencing crazed conspiracy laden thoeries regarding Stonehenge, magic, the holy grail, king arthur, the 'capstone' and the 'heelstone'.

Ive been waiting for him to drop by again for months.

Edited to add:

I misspelled 'Garry Denke' in case anyone wants to seach and read about King Arthur levitating the Heelstone. Plus bad spelling.

When somedays says accidently "garbage" you must paste a picture of that guy in gangleri's avatar, saying "garbage day". And it's not about getting it, just to repeat it as many times as possible till it stops being funny (the basic law of a meme). ;)

OK. 10 of the finest indigenous characters from The Congo. :)

People, people! There's a difference between a 'meme' and a 'running joke'. Look at Sidhe's definition again:

A meme (pronounced /miːm/) comprises a unit or element of cultural ideas, symbols or practices; such units or elements transmit from one mind to another through speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena. The etymology of the term relates to the Greek word mimema for mimic.[1] Memes act as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate and respond to selective pressures.

Gangleri's garbageday thing is not a meme because it does not represent the 'cultural ideas' of the forum in the way that, say, Radioactive Monkey does. It's just a funny picture that only he uses; he says it's a personal meme but that doesn't make sense, unless gangleri is secretly an intelligent colony of mice or something similar. It's a running joke. If you're going to use a stupid word like 'meme' at least use it sparingly.

To put it another way, if Garbageday is a meme then eastsidebagel's avatar must be a meme, because I've seen it at least five hundred times in the last two days!

mrtn: No way, you invented XCL? Honestly? :wow: Why aren't you given more recognition for this achievement?

Good point Catharsis I'm glad I'm off that list, it's a round up of the usual suspects. :)

Could have sworn he was a bot ;)

I'd say GDR is a meme, it's just most of that list isn't, and the people that are labled as memes aren't really although they may have created one, most are pseudo memes, that were just a flash in the pan, or childish pranking weren't really worth the effort. My favourite is the so called joke about voting, I mean who the hell ever thought that was funny and why. O no we're not allowed to know it's too funny for mere mortals, can't be a meme if it's a private joke by definition.

Garbage Day, Oh man-oh god, ooooooooohhhhhh mmmmmyyyyyy ggggooooodddddd! are all internet memes, I believe.

And I pronounce it mem. Like "same" in French.

And I need some clarification on the meme with Godwynn. Not Godwin's Law. (Though this is what triggered it) But Godwynn, the OTer.

Which? Him bumping threads after a ridiculously long time to inform people that their predictions were off? Or him being somewhat improbably pro-German?

A meme has to infiltrate numerous people, and last. Godwynn's epic bumps are Godwynn's bumps are not a meme because only Godwynn does it (plus, it'd be cheapened if anyone else did it). The bloodmas avatars from last year or the year before, I forget which, were a fad, not a meme, because it disappeared as quickly as it started. Radioactive monkey is a meme, because multiple people use it, and it's lasted and become part of the forum culture.

STOP FALSELY CLASSIFYING NON-MEME THINGS AS MEMES.
