So I noticed there is a little bit of lag with block changings. I don't know how much of a problem it is for people. What I can do is move back to the old setup where the world files exist in RAM, but that means I need to put the border back on.

As long as Lake Cosmo and the area around it are inborder, it's fine by me.

ATTENTION TO ALL OF LAKE COSMO: We are in dire need of fences and LOTS of them. At least four stacks I estimate. We're in the process of walling in the whole town, and we're gonna build a massive gate across, and to the bottom of, the canal.

Please don't, I can live with the lag, but a small border is bad

It's a problem for me but I don't want my experience to ruin everyone else's.

I'm fine by a border as long as our towns are inside.

Could you bring back the donation meter towards more stuff?

I got response code 503, this mean what?

I could do another donation drive. I did take down that website though. I could put another one up. Right now I am trying to survive the last day of school (students in class anyways, us teachers have to go another coupe days)

That sounds pretty cool, Joakim. I'm sure Matt will let you join.

Also, I like the server how it is now. Borders were always kinda annoying. Also, the lighting changes in 1.7 should probably decrease the amount of lag. Maybe it will be better when that's out.

How much cash is the next level?

Surviving the last couple days of work is a good interim goal

PS does FalseBook just use CraftBook instructions?

The game kicked me off with an error I've never seen and now I can't log in to Minecraft at all on DAKLER, I tried on DrMowinckel and I can't get on for long without the screen turning black

Hey guys, we got a brand new player, in Minecraft on on the server. And she's a GIRL. Yes guys a real GIRL. Please be nice to her. :p

She's one of my friends, Shame on you all if you act badly. :p

@People living in Sunnyside: There is currently a hideous contraption looking like a house on some poles that weren't present yesterday. Please do not destroy it as of yet. I was going to finish it tonight, but my connection to minecraft.net got cut, so I have to finish it tomorrow. I promise you all it'll end up looking good!

Is anyone else having trouble accessing Minecraft? I can't get to the online page either...

Quick tech explanation for the border:

There are two ways the world save file can exist, on the hard drive where space isn't an issue, or in a "ram disk" which is in the temporary memory.

On the hard disk space isn't an issue, like I mentioned. However, hard disks are slow compared to a computers RAM. Everytime you place/destroy a block the game saves the change on the disk. A lot of changes at once means a lot of writing to the hard disk. On a shared server like ours it can be slow. This is the lag many experience when placing/destroying blocks.

The other option is a RAM disk. Linux servers (like ours) give us the option of detaching a portion of RAM and treating it like a poser hard disk. The minecraft server doesn't know the difference, but being in RAM the saving block place/destroy is a lot faster. However, it does take away the memory available to the server itself. The bigger the world save file, the more RAM needed for this poser disk. Some fool could go out and explore a TON of the world, making the world save larger. This causes RAM use for the save file to increase.

The function of the boarder is to keep the world save from getting too big and eating up the space in RAM. So the trade off is a lot of space on the slow hard drive, or using the fast RAM but making sure not too much is taken up by the save file so the server has more room for the rest of the program.

DrMo/DAKLER, can you tell me the specific error you are getting?

I'm not getting the error anymore

Found out the minecraft central auth servers were down for a couple hours

I've been looking at plugins for the portal system. I'm not happy with the minecraft vanilla mechanic. Here is a link to several of the popular ones. The first one is a new mechanic that intrigues me. The bottom link is the most "traditional"

I've noticed that everyone comes out of one portal in the nether. Is that how it is in SSP?

Can we somehow make a border around all explored area on our map? If a border would be present, of course.
