CFC Model UN - Security Council Simulation

Well, the only Model U.N.'s I've been involved in lasted a day, so perhaps it would be best if we did not include any current events on the subject since we launched.

I think the waiting period is over. Who is next on the list?

Good! Because a headline on the Times today just screwed my case!

The Syrian stance on the North Korean question is as follows:

Why should the United States be allowed to own weapons of mass destruction and not allow everyone to? You capatalist pigs sicken us and the arab world alike.

The North Koreans have every right to build nuclear powerplants to supply power to their civilian populas, much like America does. Why should one Korean citizen not have power when an American does?

If North Korea is such a threat, then why was our arab brothers in Iraq attacked instead?

The chair recognizes the esteemed delegate of the United States as the next speaker.

 This is getting interesting.

Oh shut up - regarding the PM exchange, not a personal insult and an attack. ;)

The United States insists that both Japan and South Korea, like China, need to be present at the talks. This issue involves them too.

Why should the U.S have WMDs? Because we are responsible with them. N. Korea, the need for aid, might sell uranium or trade nukes for food and aid; it is a "rouge" nation. We cannot trust this country with nukes.

Careful, Syria - you harboring Iraq authorities might provoke a war, and the refusal to fully comply with us in the war against terroism. ;)

N. Korea must also get rid of their weapons for "any improvement in relations to occur"

N. Korea also has nothing to fear from denuclearizing. As for protection against Bush's hostilities, you have been cheating the Clinton administation.

Chile is strongly with the USA on the issue that the North Korea should not be allowed to have WMD.

If a country wants to have WMD, they should prove themselves worthy. Fundamentalist regimes such as Iran and totalitarian warmongering regimes such as Iraq and North Korea should not be allowed to have them. They have been suspected of aiding terrorists, which causes a direct threat to the security of not only the Western World but to the whole world. If many nuclear weapons are detonated at once. a nuclear winter would ensue and all life on the planet would be wiped out. This could be a likely scenario considering the direction North Korea is heading.

However, the Bush administration's handling of this situation is wrong. It seems like Bush is trying to bully the North Koreans into giving up their program. This may have worked for Iraq, but on other countries it won't the Chilean government suggests that the North Korean government is persay "weaned" off its nuclear program, while keeping the nuclear reactors it needs to give it's citizens power. For example, North Korea could first dismantle what it has contstructed, stop all nuclear research, then dismantle it's long range warheads, and finally reinstate un inspectors to make sure the nuclear reactors are used for power providing only. Also, alternative power sources are a good idea for the Koreans if they prove themselves to be irresponsible with nuclear reactors.

Pyongyang's blatantly aggressive foreign policy and development of atomic weapons are very troubling. The North Korean atomic threat, if it were to go unchecked, could bring about an atomic war. Thus, Cameroon suggests that North Korea dismantle her atomic weapons and atomic reactors while discontinuing the mining of atomic materials.

Cameroon is with the United States on the issue of North Korean atomic usage, which should stop. Cameroon thanks the council for hearing her and wants to stress the severity of the issue; we must deal with this issue quickly before it becomes even more of a problem.

Sorry to interrupt, but, Toasty, when do we vote on Resolution 1a?

When the speaking list has been emptied. Speaking of the speaking list, Toasty, you should post it.

The speaking list has been re-opened.

As it stands:

North Korea
Mexico
United Kingdom

Please PM me if you wish to be put on the list.

The chair recognizes the esteemed delegate of North Korea as the next speaker.

This is a rotating speaker's list, right? So after all sixteen delegates have spoken, it should go back to the same order...

Whew! Came out of a model un conference today...torturous six hours of committee and an hour of awards. I was Cameroon in the committee Status of Women with the topics overpopulation and welfare of women.

I came out with a commendation (lowest) award. And, as a freak coincidence, there were only one other guy in the status of women committee - all the chairs and other delegates were girls.

No, hb, the list is not rotating. When no one else sees the need to speak on this issue (meaning that there are no names left on the speaking list), then we will move on to the next topic.
