CFC Pick'em 2016-2017

This year has an exceptionally bad/unique position at the Quarterback position, which probably contributes to teams playing unpredictably. Especially at the opening of the year when we don't know how these nobodies will play.

Thursday, 9/8
Carolina @ Denver, Carolina by 3, picked Carolina to not cover

Lined-out ones already started as I'm putting this in and so don't count.

Sunday, 9/11
Cincinnati @ N.Y. Jets, Cincinnati by 2.5, Jets outright
Cleveland @ Philadelphia, Philadelphia by 4, Philly covers
Oakland @ New Orleans, New Orleans by 1, NO covers
Minnesota @ Tennessee, Minnesota by 2.5, Minny covers
Tampa Bay @ Atlanta, Atlanta by 3, TB outright
Buffalo @ Baltimore, Baltimore by 3, Balty covers
Chicago @ Houston, Houston by 6.5, Chicky outright
San Diego @ Kansas City, Kansas City by 7, KC covers
Green Bay @ Jacksonville, Green Bay by 4.5, GB covers

Miami @ Seattle, Seattle by 10.5, Seattle fails miserably to cover
Detroit @ Indianapolis, Indianapolis by 3.5, Indy covers
N.Y. Giants @ Dallas, Giants by 1, Dallas outright
New England @ Arizona, Arizona by 6, Arizona covers like a foot and a half of snow

Monday, 9/12
Pittsburgh @ Washington, Pittsburgh by 3, Pitty covers
Los Angeles @ San Francisco, Los Angeles by 2.5, LA? Uhh yeah they cover

One could say that in September in Phoenix "like a foot and a half of snow" means "not happening."

Oh man I am jumping up and down, what a finish to that oakland game

When you fire Rob Ryan but Dennis Allen keeps his end of hal/fgame defense around

I knew when our win expectation was at 91% near the end of the 3rd that we were screwed

I hate this team so much sometimes

[emoji35] those two games are killing my week.

On the bright side, I started the Vikings defense in fantasy [emoji3]

I can't say whether they are killing my week, or they are throwing dirt on it since other games already killed it.

Cry me a river:p... I'm a 49ers fan... we used to have Alex Smith now its Gabbert and Colin suddenly-found-his-inner-activist Kaepernick

Hey guys, so week 1 is in the books, and my computer decided to update, forcing me to write this again. So let's take a look at how everybody did:

Week 1 Results
Pos | Name | Points | Record
1 | KMRblue1027 | 21 | (8-5-3)
1 | Owen Glyndwr | 21 | (8-5-3)
3 | North King | 20 | (9-2-5)
4 | Sommerswerd | 20 | (8-4-4)
5 | Azale | 19 | (8-3-5)
6 | vivalamexico | 18 | (8-2-6)
7 | caketastydelish | 17 | (7-3-6)
7 | Light Cleric | 17 | (7-3-6)
9 | madviking | 14 | (6-2-7)
10 | Timsup2nothin | 13 | (5-3-8)
11 | Berzerker | 8 | (3-2-11)
12 | IglooDude | 4 | (2-0-7)
13 | illram | 0 | (0-0-1)

So I stuck with the same ranking system as I've used in the past: players are ranked by points, if a tie in points exists, then player with more 2-pt picks gets precedence. So even though North King and Sommerswerd have the same number of points, because North King got 9 2-pt picks and Sommer only got 8, North King is ahead in standings. Some other notes about this first week: Igloo's Sunday/Monday picks arrived after the morning block of Sunday games had kicked off so he was disqualified from those picks. Madviking never gave me a pick for the GB game and his record reflects that. Illram only sent in his TNF pick and his record reflects that. Berzerker's picks appear to be only ATS or straight pick'em. I asked for clarification but he never gave any, so I treated his picks as a straight pick'em, with everything either being covers or wins outright. If any of this is a mistake and I did overlook something, please let me know, and I'll fix it. I do make the occasional mistake. I am only human, after all.

As to the actual results themselves, KMR and myself shared 1st place this week with 21 points apiece, with NK and Sommer following just behind with 20. The week was kinda separated, with one group doing really well and another group doing not so much. The best game this week was the Pittsburgh game, with 10/12 picks successfully predicting a Pittsburgh cover. Overall 21 points were awarded out of a possible 24. The worst game was the New England-Arizona SNF game, with only 2/24 points being awarded. Congratulations to viva for being the only one to get that pick right! The other big whiff was the CAR/DEN game (4/26 points), with only Light Cleric and KMR correctly predicting the Denver upset!

Now let's go ahead and take a look at the big board. I'm going to start including PPW (Points per Week) in my overall standings. I included it in the final standings from last season as a way to look at how everybody did regardless of how many games they picked. The statistic works similar to ERA in that it is an extrapolation of how well someone would do on average were they to pick 16 games ((points/games picks)*16)

Overall Standings
Pos | Name | Points | PPW | Record
1 | KMRblue1027 | 21 | 21 | (8-5-3)
1 | Owen Glyndwr | 21 | 21 | (8-5-3)
3 | North King | 20 | 20 | (9-2-5)
4 | Sommerswerd | 20 | 20| (8-4-4)
5 | Azale | 19 | 19 | (8-3-5)
6 | vivalamexico | 18 | 18 | (8-2-6)
7 | caketastydelish | 17 | 17 | (7-3-6)
7 | Light Cleric | 17 | 17 | (7-3-6)
9 | madviking | 14 | 14.93| (6-2-7)
10 | Timsup2nothin | 13 | 13| (5-3-8)
11 | Berzerker | 8 | 8| (3-2-11)
12 | IglooDude | 4 | 7.11| (2-0-7)
13 | illram | 0 | 0 | (0-0-1)

So not much difference now, but we'll keep an eye on it through the season. So with that, let's take a look at the week 2 spreads:
