Ok, let's narrow down a month. June or July? I'm good for either.

If we get the date nailed down soon I can put for time off from work.

Either probably works for me. My class begins June 16 but I have no idea what time it is in the day. Regardless, it shouldn't take up much time, so I should be good.

Sorry for not checking in. In the space of 3 weeks, I get promoted to team lead on the satellite team, got a new job that requires looong commutes, my grandfather died and then NASA published rules that are very favorable to the satellite team's lunar mission (in that order). So I've been a bit busy.

Does June 28th work for anyone?


Also, what do you all want to do?

We could do traditional type meetups at a bar or something. We could go to Dave and Busters (arcade with lots of games and lots of booze). I've also heard of a place that I think is called The Factory or something, it's like a giant indoor park for adults.


Or we could do something outdoorsey. I could take you all to this awesome old cemetery where the brother of either Lewis or Clark (can't remember which) is buried along with Revolutionary and ACW vets next to this awesome moseleum that was built with marble floated up the Mississippi from Egypt. Then we could go hiking on some kick-ass top of the river bluff trails and then dig up some fossils or something.

There's also a lot of casinos we could hit up.

It's called Miles Cemetary and it's about 20 minutes from JB. The hiking trails are all within an hour of JB. They recently restored it.

We missed the June Rendevouz unfortunately, but it's still a really cool old French Fort to visit and it's on the same route as most of the hiking trails.

So do you all have any ideas or preferences on what you want to do? I'm up for anything and we can do multiple things in one day.

For example, if you all wanted to shoot arrows, hike and site-see then I could pick people up in St. Louis or South County and shuttle us from location to location. Luckily, pretty much everything we've talked about lies on a road that runs North-South from JB down to Prarie Du Roche so we could hit them all up in order.

Then we could head back to St. Louis for dinner/drinks.

What's the name of the place with fossils? Something like Powder Valley? I haven't been there in maybe a decade, but I picked up a lot of nice seashell imprints. Haven't been to Fort De Chartres in years either, I used to go there when I was a kid for my friend's birthday.

What's the name of the place with fossils? Something like Powder Valley? I haven't been there in maybe a decade, but I picked up a lot of nice seashell imprints. Haven't been to Fort De Chartres in years either, I used to go there when I was a kid for my friend's birthday.

Well, there are two places. One is just a trail where when you are up on the bluff, you can go two this granite outcrop and there are some corral reefs that stick out of the rock. You can't dig any fossils up there though.

The other place is a creek, it has a french name (Praire Du Long creek - a lot of places here have french names since it was a really old french colonial area) but everyone calls it fossil creek. It's just a stream where the sides are loose dirt and you can basically stick your hand into the dirt and pull out crinoid steams and sea shells. I once found a perfect archimedes screw, which is pretty rare. It's owned by a farmer but we can go back in there with permission.

I've never heard of Powder Valley though. Where is that?

Alrighty, I've got an Amtrak train which will take get me from Chicago to St. Louis by 1220pm. This should leave the afternoon open for all sorts of activities and what not.

The rub is that transportation from St. Louis to Columbia is in pretty short order. The latest I was able to find was a Greyhound bus which leaves at 615pm, which doesn't leave much time for dinner and what not. So we'll have to schedule around that if it's ok. I'll hold off on buying the tickets for now, though I'd like to get them soon while they are cheap.

EDIT: Hmmm, a bit more trouble. Doesn't seem like there's a train from my town to Chicago on Saturday in time for the 7am Amtrak... public transportation is tough to figure out! Maybe I'll have to drive to St. Louis?

How long might that take? It's looking like we'll have to cut out some activities from the schedule. Maybe we could just shoot, hike, and go for dinner. At least if you drive you could bring your archery kit.
