CG1: Monarch Domination Variant

Erik The Glorious comes to power in 1150 BC.
We need more workers. We have 2 and should have 1 per city.
Embassy established with japan, their capital is building Oracle, and contains 2 settlers 2 warriors and 2 spearmen.
Changed Pers and Pasar to workers.
1: 1125 BC. Temple completed in Susa. I decide to make this our military factory. Brax ordered Arbela builds warrior, starts worker. Warrior sent to garrison Susa from flips.
2: 1100 BC. Pers builds worker. Temple started, this may be changed to Lighthouse later. Spear on goto reaches Arbela. Who left it on gota and why?
3: Nothing.
4: 1050 BC. Pasar builds worker, orders up another.
China declares war on japan. Yeah, beat up someone.
5: 1025 BC. Jungle cleared by Pasar.
6: 1000 BC. Arbela builds worker, starts temple.
7: 975 BC. Iron moves to greece. Roads completed for incence.
8: 950 BC. Irrigation moving to susa.
9: 925 BC. Pasar build worker. Mapmaking drops to 1 turn.
I have to buy it from someone.
Dial up ROme. Seizure does not have maths, but he has Poly and Code of Laws.
Greece has the same except Poly.
Zululand has Code of Laws, Maths, Poly and Mapmaking. I buy mapmaking for wmap and 5 gold.
For maths, Japan gives wmap and 6 gold.
Trade wmaps with china.
Trade mapmaking to Seizure for code of laws.
10: 900 bC. I am assassassinated!

My last words: FInish temple in persepolis, mine some hills and start a lighthouse.
The 2 square island by Susa has 3 squares or more, i can see it now.
We are first in score.

(1) why the funk is 'cancel orders for friend combat units' on??????? Our workers quit cutting junlge everey time a greek guy moves! No wonder we get nowhere!
(2) harbor in Susa ordered, 4 workers go mining near Persepolis
(3) Zulu offer Poly for too large a price. Temple done, Lighthouse started. Literatur in 18 @ -2 (need more culture for borders, especially want iron near Persepolis).
(4)
(5)
(6)
(7)
(8)
(9)
(10) buy 1 worker from china for 1 gold

Who said you could take my job! ;) (jk)

Sorry about leaving 'cance orders for friendly units' on, I missed that when starting the game. BTW, everyone is playing 15 turns now, just until the game really gets underway.

About the Iron, from what I can tell by the reports, we have none? That is VERY annoying b/c we can't conquer flip cities to get it. That means no Immortals for us, unless we trade.

Remember the AI fighting each other is NOT as good as it seems; we don't want too strong of an enemy to contest for island control. I'd rather have them only do little wars in their outer territories, not one take all of the mainland.

Good game so far guys, lets keep it up.

CG

The Iron is 1 tile into greek borders. It has not moved at all. Sorry for saying "It moved into greece" when what i meant was "The iron tile came under greek culture". When we finish the Lighthouse, or get a library, we will gain control of it in about 3 turns. Athens got a temple maybe 3 turns ahead of us.

OK Dredd, try to concetrate on culture so we can get that Iron back...we want Immortals badly.

CG

Edit: Forget this---Dredd, hurry up, you have 2 hours or we skip you!

Dredd is SKIPPED and benched, because his save is overdue. The new lineup:

Me--->Up Now
Evincar---->On Deck
Erik
Lt. Killer

Benched: Judge Dredd, Lkysam

I got the save, will play now, post soon.

CG

Lt. Killer: that file you posted does not work. I get a "not found" screen every time I try to d/l it. Can you please post it in the normal way?

CG

Sorry guys. I am back, put me at the end if you wish....

Dredd, you can play if you want. I haven't played yet.

Edit: Now I really got the save, so I'll post this afternoon (9:42 local time now). Dredd, feel free to post your save, I'll play after if you want.

Dredd: don't play. I'm done. Here are my (exciting) sixteen turns (I went one over. You'll see why):

(0) Check the diplo screen. No one offers anythign for Poly.

(1) Nothing. I send two more workers to help clear the jungle around Arbela. If they had some higher plans, sorry.

(2) Spearman built in Pasargadae, Granary ordered up. Majority of our workers sent to clear jungle---nothing else to do. It is almost comical, for me at least, to see the cores of these empires. I've never seen a core this small on Monarch, or any level for that matter!

(3) Jungle cleared around Arbela, and reveals bonus grassland! Just wondering, who irrigated grassland under Despotism? Don't worry, I never knew until Regent level ;). I'm using a hoard of 6 (1 slave) worker to clear jungle around Arbela and Pasargadae.

(4) Begin to clear another jungle.

(5) I already see the Settler constipation starting. Warrior/settler fortified outside of Rome.

(6) Rome builds Oracle, everyone cascades to Pyraminds. We need to finish Great Lighthouse fast, b/c we are going to be under MAJOR culture pressure. I trade Lit for Poly and 44 gold. Why? We want Monarchy and fast. Poly is one tech closer to Monarchy. And I chose China b/c they're far away, so if they build the GL, not too much culture pressure from them. I decide to reserach Monarchy at 30 turns, no +0 gpt.

(7) Japanese offer RoP and alliance against Chinese. Ha! I'd need an RoP with Rome and Zulu as well. No can do, Tokogawa.

(8) Another jungle cleared.

(9) Begin work on clearing another jungle. Chinese start Great Library.

(10) Greece sends warrior into our territory. This may be our first challenge yet. I call up Greece. Ask him to leave. They leave willingly. Whew! That was close. I feared sneak attack on a lowly warrior defending.

(11) I was right! Greece sneak attacks, our warrior wins! Of course, we can't capture any of their cities, so here is my game plan: get a spearman in Susa ASAP. We want to keep those incense. Then, call up someone to see if they want to take Greece. Shaka won't take an alliance, and Rome has no Iron, so its we're going it alone.

(12) I make Arbela build Spearman, availible in 7 turns. Not fast enough.

(13) I move my warrior onto hill by Susa. No troops seen. Looks like that was a one-shot deal for Greece.

(14) Harbor finished in Susa, I switch Spearman in Arbela to Library, b/c Susa will finish Spearman faster.

(15) Archer, 2 warrior move onto mountain by Pasargadae. Why is everyone picking on us? I hope this stack passes through. My turn should be over, but I'll play one more to see if Rome attacks us.

(16) War with Rome! But, against all odds, our Spearman beats 2 warriors, but is killed after Archer. Archer reduced to one HP. One warrior left in Pasargadae. I leave this dillemma up to the next leader.

So, I leave the next in line a dillemma: risk attacking the One HP archer on a mountain, and leave Pasargadae open, or risk being killed by a One HP archer. Good luck!

The lineup:

Evincar---->Up Now, 24 to confirm
Erik---->On Deck
Lt. Killer
Dredd (Off the Bench)
Me

Benched: Lkysam

Good luck Evincar, I left you quite a decision!

CG

Jeez....... better buy someone into this fray, because everyone will now cascade into war against us......

Buhuhu!! This is going to be the critical time!!!
Okay, I pick it up. Tonight or tomorrow I'll tell you what happenned. No capturing cities BUT we can pillage the land back to 4000 BC is it Ok?

Evincar: We CAN pillage land.
We CAN'T capture cities, recapture cities, CF cities, or bribe cities. So, holding all of our original cities is pivotal. I tried to bribe Zulu, but they said no.

Evincar, your fifteen turns will be probably some of the most important in the game. But no pressure...

CG

Well, 15 highly exciting turns! Everything went out more or less Ok, read it to the end, don't stop on turn 11 ;)

350 BC (0): Ouuuuuuuuch!!!! We are desperately weak in military!! I decided to leace the warrior there. The odds are better than if I attack.
Worker stack sent to clear more jungle.
330 BC (1): The archer refuse to attack. I swear I'll take revenge one day.
310 (2): Just holding my breath!!Waiting for some military but the improvements are needed
290 (3): Susa produces an spearman that will be used to pillage only road to Athens.
Library whipped in Arbela. Sorry but I can't wait 4 more turns.
270 (4) Oh no!! The Roman archer comes back! Luckily an Spearman can be moved to defend, but this is looking grim!!
Zulu complete the Pyramids.
250 (5) Good!!! Our spearman holds on and the greeks are building the Great lighthouse, so they are going to lose all that production!
Parsagadae micromanaged to speed up growth at no shield cost.
Athens is unconnected
230 (6): I decided to sign peace with Alex. He got scared because of our (invincible) spearman next to Athens and Gave us Philosphy plus a slave. He is cautious, to my surprise.
we'll see what Caesar does. Our Spearman Hero moves to mountain. Maybe we can pillage something aroun Rome.
210 (7): Zululand and China sign peace. I didn't even know they were at war...The spearman that pillaged Athens is sent to Parsagadae mountain. The greek slave joins Susa. I know this is risky but I need more pop there.
190 (8): I see a Roman archer. Invaded Rome in hopes of pillaging as much as possible.
We are F****** with happinnes, and I fear we may have to whip some more, so Incense traded to zulu in exchange of wines, Territory map and 8 gold.
170 (9): Susa starts our first Galley!! Pillaged bonus grassland in Rome. I'm going to show the SOB's what is good!!
150 (10) We finish the Lighthouse!!! :yeah: Persepolis starts settler to colonize islands.
The bad news...Why on Earth are governors sabotaging our production!!! Working an irrigated grassland when there's a mined one...
Horses are pillaged near Rome, hope my spearmen can hold the Archer going for them.
130 (11) Well, I lost the first spearman...however the second one takes revenge on the archers and forces his way our of Rome.
Okay, good time to make peace with the Romans. 2 workers at 10 gold. I've got a good idea for them.
110 (12) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHH! you are gonna hate me for this, but I just broke the deal with Shaka!!
The roman road was actually the way lux were being carried from Zululand to Persia, so no more wines and ruined reputation I'm afraid.
I didn't even figure out that an enemy road was being used to give us luxuries :crazyeye: I assumed the zulu had a harbor, but they don't.
no comments :suicide:
90: (13): Susa expands with no noticeable effects. Persepolis builds a Settler and a Roman joins the city. Start another Galley. Parsagadae builds warrior and starts a Library.
The other Roman will join Susa. Roman Culture is about 1/2 ours, so no problem I think.
70 (14): The greeks get to an island south of Athens :( Galley in 2 (Persepolis) 5 (Susa).
50 (15): Workers are sent to connect us with Zulu, although I've realized that the Romans just rebuilt their roads, thus we can again trade with the Zulu people.
Don't ask why but our rep seems not to have been lost  We are somewhat stuck in happinnes, so I think it pays trading.

4 turns to monarchy, we may hold a revolution specially because our empire is tiny and we'll hardly pay any extra military support. However, it may pay to wait for republic...

Be happy that I didn't forget this:
