CG1: Monarch Domination Variant

Ok I got it. I wonder...will we EVER be able to build something in the outer islands? combining the magnificient land and the low corruption...
Maybe rush libraries just to fill them, and keep some garrison.

With a GL, we WILL rush the FP on our best island. This is # 1 priority for a GL. In fact, I suggest using Immortals to get our GA and maybe a GL against Rome before they are obsolete. If that never happens, they will remain crappy 1/1/1 cities. This is top priority, b/c it is hard to get Domination with only FOUR cities that aren't max corruption.

510 AD (0): Rushed library in Gordium. Can't do anything but pray :)
The Romans complete the Great Library!!
520 AD (1): Our warrior finds barbarians (ever doubted it?), and Persepolis switched to Cathedral, with more than 100 shields wasted
530 AD (2): Our explorer warrior is killed. Colloseum in Parsagadae, starts Marketplace. Arbela starts inmortals, offence is the best defense, I guess.
540 AD (3): Well, we can now afford to kill the luxury rate, now running at +13 gpt.
...WHAT IS THAT?? A chinese galley is in front of Arbela!! very suspicious! Mao told he would leave, don't trust him.
550 AD(4): Well, the Galley seems to pass away. Cultural expansion is pressing Xinjian, Cumae and Hangchow. On the RNG we trust...
warrior upgraded to inmortal. Another settled is loaded in a galley to expand.

560 AD (5): I've discovered I nice Island in the western part of the map. It is FAR away from here but there are even cattles!
570 AD (6): Sidon produces warrior that will go to the huts. Our workers are just running out od things to do!
580 AD (7): Romans building Sun Tzu. Arbela produces inmortals, we are now more or less OK in what it takes to defense.
590 AD (8): Settler disembarks. I'll have to move it once before founding the city, though...
two workers join cities in hopes of getting more gold/production We are doing 40 turn research and only getting 12 gpt :(
Our warrior finds more angry barbarians
600 AD (9): Our warrior is victorious, but I can't avoid getting Sidon pillaged next turn...
No more work to do so I used workers just to scout enemy borders.
610 AD (10): Cancelled settler in Bactra due to unexpected barb. spear for 12 gold.
Thanks to new town founded and Marketplace in Persepolis, we now get 23 gpt, far better!.
620 AD (11): Nothing done...Diplo is still frozen, no good deals IMO.
630 AD (12): Map from the hut  Regarding on that Island, it is not as good as I thought, but can hold 3 nice cities.
640 AD (13): Worker built in Antioch, maybe that city can produce something.
650 AD (14): Renegotiated peace with the Japanese for 24 gold, plan to build another city near Antioch to completely "siege" Xinjian.
660 AD (15): Sidon revolts, Okay, little more to do. I'm building Marketplaces everywhere but I think everything would go better in Republic.
The map is quite completed, and our culture is strong. We seem to be constantly in the tight rope...

Nice job, Evincar. I think you are right about Republic: we should switch. That would make our border-line hard to maintain though (it is EIGHTEEN units!). Also, I think we should try to find some of the islands in the northern hemisphere, b/c we seem to have not found any above the equator. We don't want the AI to grab all of those!

what happened here? Erik confirmed within 24h, wasn't it 48 to play?

You are right! Sorry, I confused myself! When I wrote the 24/48 rules, I had that in mind, but writing what I wrote in an early morning haze, I thought I meant 48 to play from when the save is posted. That would make 24 to post, 24 to play. I misunderstood what I said (:rotfl:)

Now I feel like an idiot. Anyway, Erik, you AREN'T skipped, you still have about another 9 hrs to post your report and save.

There is a moral here kids: don't post while sleepy! ;)

CG

Okay, well at least I am not late, but still I am confused... :)

Erik is now officially skipped. Its been 48+ hours since he confirmed.

(1)
(2) China asks our Galley to leave - oh well. Zulu troops move towards Athens - may be directed at us (that will show next turn). Cancel settler in persepolis for Immortal in 1 - just to be safe....
(3) Yes, Zulu move two Swordsmen next to Pasargade. Feudalism next turn - I move all Spears into cities for upgrade, change Pasargade to barracks at loss of 56 shield. Found Sardis. I ask Shaka out - he declares war. 1 Immortal can reach the Swordsmen and kills 1 - GA starts. Immo is in city and thus protected :D

(4) Zulu pillage roads in 1 square. get Feudalism, decide to stay at 0 science. Gordium builds Spear, Temple ordered. Upgrade all Spearmen. Kill one Swordsman, loose 1 Immortal.

(5) Order a Catapult to bombard down Zulus in fortresses - we should have filled those fortresses! Do so now where i can. Sign ROP with China to get a Spear into Sardis asap. Trade resources around for cheap to make friends, trade Feudalism out for 30 Gold and map and for alliance with japan against Zulu.

(6) Zulu swordsman kills fortified Pikeman in pasargade  They also land a Warrior next to Sardis.

(7) The Spear in Sardis holds at 1 HP, the pike in Pasargade kills the elite(!) Sword for no HP lost. A Immo moved towards Zulu territory makes them reorientate forces for defence. 7 Immortals approach Ulundi... hopefully the Zulu have some units to move out....

(8) Kill one Swordsman for no promotion. start pillaging Zululand, move two Catapults in for bombardment of ulundi....

(9) Zulu Swordsman likks Pikeman.. since it is 3 HP vs 4 HP it's only a 30% chance, but hey, it's an AI attacking........ The swordsman (at two HP) then kills an attacking vet Immortal (5,7%), then succumbs to the next who gets promoted to elite. zulu galley next to Persepolis - Immortal stays there. Galley attacks - and looses, but hurts Zulu galley - maybe it will retreat.

(10) Galley retreats, bombardment of Ulundi fails, Immortals move towards Zulu iron. Order settler in Persepolis so we can settle in Zululand.

Ok, I got it, will not be able to play until morning/afternoon.

Dredd: If you can, send some units into Zululand and destroy their improvements back to 4000BC! Also, it would be nice to keep a few Immortals in their territory to pick off their offensive units as they are made.

CG

760AD (0) Ordered idle workers to pillaged square in our territory. Also talked Greek into war against Zulu for Dyes and 150gold.

770AD (1) Basically have Ulundi surrounded with troops, mostly Immortals. Ready to pillage most squares. Settler moves toward Zululand. Immortal ordered.

780AD (2) Lose one immortal to an attacking Zulu Swordsman. He is taken down to 1HP and then picked off by our troops. Pillaged away their iron and other improvements.

790AD (3) Greeks are building Sistine Chapel. We complete a cathedral in Susa order aquaduct. Zulu will talk peace, they offer Engineering. We will wait until city is founded then take this deal.

800AD (4) Samaria is founded 2 squares SW of Ulundi, temple ordered immediately. We trade our newly captured Dyes to China for wm + 2gpt + 15g. More squares pillaged, before taking wm + Engineering + 15 gold for peace with Zulu. We begin to move our troops back to our territory.

810AD (5) As expected, Zulu order the rest of our troops out, dont worry we will keep them near :) Settler loaded and headed to large Iron island in the Northern Hemisphere. Temple in Samaria is hurried.

820AD (6) Temple complete and library ordered in Samaria. Forts started near Samaria.

830AD (7) Harbor in Antioch, Library in Sardis, Temple in Gordium, and Settler in Bactra hurried for a total of 262 gold. Notice Zulu swordsman in Greek territory, this could work out nicely if Zulu destroy Athens we could have more room to expand.

840AD (8) Sadly, maybe, Zulu swordsman is defeated invading Athens. Antioch Harbor then Temple. Gordium Temple then Worker. Bactra Settler then Worker. Sardis Library then Temple.

850AD (9) They love us in Antioch!

860AD (10) A Chinese warrior moves near Sidon, I assume he is just exploring North of Sidon. Settler on Bactra/Tyre island is on auto-move. He will be ready to build his city in 2 turns.

Nice job Dredd.

I couldn't tell from the report, we are at peace with Zulu but still pillaging their territory? If so, that is a good deal! Anyway, lets keep the exploring and settling up, and I'm happy that we finally have a city (or will soon have one) in the northern hemisphere.

CG

CG,

I pillaged first, settled second, and then accepted Eng for peace. Leaving Zulu still at war with Greece...dirty little bastard I am...:mwaha:

Galley with settler is about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way to the Northern Island.

In my 11 (just had to play one more, you'll see why) turns, I turned on Greece, accepting an Alliance with Zulu. It worked out pretty well, as you will see:

(0) I look around for techs, and this is what I get: Rome will give us Theology for Territory Map and 390 gold. They originally wanted WM and 2xx gold, but I decided our WM is too valuable. I consider this idea for a while, but decide against it, because Theology isn't that valuable to us right now. Caesar won't talk about Invention, so we sit tight. I switch our tech from Invention to Chivalry, because Invention is pretty wide-spread, while no one has Chivalry. I hope to use that as trade bait.

(1) A Galley is built. I load a Pike onto it, and a settler is ordered from Perseopolis for two turns. Sidon riots (oops) and we discover that Rome is building the Sistine Chapel. Hamadan is built in the Bactra/Tyra island. I look around the map, considering spots for our FP, and I figure that the Balkan island (immediately to the west of the main island) would be a good spot. If we conquer all of it, it could fit 4-6 cities, which isn't bad. Various worker production, and our galley is almost to the northern island.

(2) Settler built in Perseopolis, worker in Gordium, and Sidon finally stops rioting. I unload the pike from the galley back onto Perseopolis, because I still think we could go to war at any time. Something funny happens: The Zulu want Iron. Of course I decline, but they HAVE IT IN THEIR TERRITORY! :rotfl:  I decide to send this galley to the island to the south of Bactra/Hamadan/Tyre (we REALLY have to get names for these places). Interesting news: Shaka has decided to go to war with Japan. No wonder he wanted Iron. I feel bad for the Japanese---they have one city and no colonies.

(3) Our GA ends, forcing us to go min sci at 9gpt (ouch!). A pair of Zulu archers move into our territory through Rome, with two more trailing behind. THey could be going to Greece, or to us. To play it safe, I move an Immortal onto our workers. If Zulu wants to fight, I'm ready. We drop a settler on the horse/cattle island.

(4) Shaka offers Alliance vs Greeks and ROP. I add Invention and 275 gold (a discount rate), and he is willing to talk. I decide...war with Greece! This is our chance to get Invention for cheap, and Greece is very weak. So I don't mind. Shaka means buisness! A stream of archers and horsemen start to come through our territory. I wake up some Immortals (their blockade is useless now) to pillage some land by Athens. I also decide I will load up some Immortals onto a Galley and take out that southern island. Ergili founded on the horse/cattle island.

(5) Our ROP with China ends (why did we have an ROP???). Caesar offers 1gpt for Incense. We is willing to budge to 2, but I decline. It would be a one-sided deal, anyway. The archers knock on the gates of Athens. 1 turn until a Galley is built, 2 turns until the Immortals get there. Unfortunately, Zulu have already landed troops by Sparta, so we'll see if we even need this Galley. We begin pillaging Athenian land. Various worker production, our galley continues to the southern island.

(6) The Zulu archers are defeated outside of Sparta (yes!) and the win one, lose one against Athens. Our galley is built, we load Immortals onto it. We pillage more Greece land. Almost the entire Zulu attack has been repulsed, on the island and on the mainland. We land our Immortals on the Sparta island. Rome is still overcharging for Theology, and since it isn't a very important tech, we won't trade.

(7) Zulu and Japan sign a peace treaty, and most of the Zulu troops retreat. Both our Immortals lose to Hoplites (!!!) so I decide we will pull back, build another galley, and try again with four. This annoying Zulu archer is fortified in our territory, probably to heal. Mine is built by Antioch, a little micromanagment reveals that we are stuck at size 6 there, and yet have 3 extra food/turn. We move a pop point to the iron tile to get maximum shields.

(8) Dariush Kabir built on the southern island. We are putting major pressure on this outer island, I don't know why they aren't flipping (minor note: we CAN accept flips on the outer islands). Crap! A slip of the finger makes our galley end a turn in the ocean! I pray it doesn't sink.

(9) DAMN IT! The galley sinks. That is really annoying. We load the four Immortals onto ship and send them towards Sparta. It seems the Zulu have given up on this war. Theology is still highly inflated, so I don't trade.

(10) Who has been micromanaging? Susa has been stagnant when it can grow! Sheesh. The Zulu archer is fully healed and ready to attack Sparta. Hopefully they don't win so we can. I have just discovered that there are Zulu archers fortified outside of Athens. Weird.

(11) I'm going to play eleven just so I can see if we can take Sparta. The Zulu archer loses outside of Sparta, and archers and horses keep attacking Athens. Yes! We capture Sparta and make an Elite Immortal! Zulu bring Japan into the war (like that will do anything) and Greece is now just one city. I'll keep these Immortals on guard duty just until the resistance is over and I can bring some pikes in. We want this elite for the front lines. This is it for me.

And the save:

Ok! But are we allowed to capture athens?

CGannon64, was the rule:
Only capture cities on the mainland after that civ has no island cities , or was it only capture cities on the mainland after all the island cities are taken?

Evincar up, me on deck. I will try not to miss it this time.
I have a really bad SG record, EM 1 thru 4 were abandoned. EM4 was the worst- 4 civs on a standard map, they ended up on the same landmass. English mapmaking became useless.

I am guilty of the mm in Susa - needed an Immortal (IIRC) fast. Didn't change back because war with Zulu was still on.
