Changing Trade-Route Related Policies while selecting a Trade Route crashes to Desktop

I've found this in a few threads, however none of them were anywhere near comprehensive. To clarify things, I am starting this thread.

If the selection screen for trade route destinations is open when you activate a policy related to trade routes (such as Caravansaries), you will suffer a crash to the desktop.

I, personally, have suffered this while playing as Russia. An easy workaround is to dismiss the policy selection screen and establish the route before changing policies.

Thanks for pointing this error out. I also ran into it, but did not see the connection with the selection of a trade route.
You saved me quite some time.
