Chieftain Zulu SG

Thanks for the invitation to this game Chieftess, but I will have to decline. I mean no offense, but chieftan level is not exactly my favorite. I am in two succession games now, will be starting another this week, and have Game of the Month #5 to play by myself. I will try to offer suggestions every now and then for your game though, not that anyone has to follow them.

One thing: you suggested building the Oracle above - it's actually not a good wonder at all. It only lasts until Education (not very long) and provides a happiness benefit that you won't need on your difficulty level. It's best for it's cultural benefit, not for its function as a wonder. I suggest building the Colossus instead - much better wonder that you can build in your coastal city, and will last until Flight (much longer). That's all for now. :king:

i'm sorry about the hill but i have a problem with building a early sity on plains. don't ask me why but it just erks me. the japanes are north and it doesn't look like there's very much land left up north. it also would have messed a city to go get the cow. it would have overlapped a ton.

i didn't think i could take out the greeks yet so i decided ot make peace buildup and take em out. sparta is the second city of th greeks right? if that's so then they have one city in all proabability. if not then they have one more. it's just a really interesting siuation.

i hope we get the greeks though.

pre-turn: Bapedi will never grow past size 2 since we can't irrigate
the grassland. It is a good defensive city right on a
mountain. I don't think we can beat the Greek Hoplites
with regular archers. I am switching Zimbabwe to barracks,
we definitely deserve some iron with this start, also the
same with Bapedi. Veteran troops make a HUGE difference.

1575 BC: Japan is now annoyed with us for having our troops in his
border. Ulundi builds worker, which will clear some jungle.

1550 BC: Japan wants Masonry + Alphabet for The Wheel, we can probably
wait a couple of turns and get it cheaper.

1525 BC: Nothing

1500 BC: A Greek warrior approaches Bapedi, we are defending with a
a conscript warrior. Switch from barracks to impi.

1475 BC: Zimbabwe completes barracks, Archer started. Bapedi finished
Impi, starts barracks.

1425 BC: Nada

1400 BC: Nothing

1375 BC: N

1350 BC: Greeks are still casing Bapedi with one warrior. Start
road to Bapedi.

1325 BC: Zimbawe completes archer, starts settler. We need to box
Mao in.

1300 BC: Nothing

1275 BC: We complete Iron Working, there is iron just outside
of Zimbabwe's cultural border. We will need a city
to secure. China has iron so they probably won't fight us
over it. There is also iron to our northwest that nobody
is really close to. Can't see any else.

1250 BC: Hey the jungle we cleared near Ulundi is a bonus shield,
at least we are a tiny bit lucky.

1225 BC: Bapedi completes barracks starts worker. Soon we'll be
pumpin' out swordsman. I have left on Impi near Athens
and they haven't sent out any troops.

1200 BC: Nothing

1175 N

1150 N

1125 We complete The Wheel, start Writing. No horses close
by, China has 2 and Japan has 1. We'll worry about
Samurai and Riders later. With this terrain swordsmen
are better now anyhow. Zimbabwe finished settler and starts
a worker, we need that iron. I move a scout away from a
barbarian and there is another source of horses, right
by the second source of iron we could get.

1100 Move Impi to kill barbarian camp, move scout to watch Greeks.

1075 Our settler is now standing on the iron, whomever comes
next can decide where to plant him (watch out for Chinese
culture). Bapedi is currently building a temple to blockade
against friendly movement through our territory, we do have
a barracks there if we choose to change it to a swordsman.

All right, iron and horses. After we clear some jungle we'll be tough to stop, especially by the Chinese and one city Greeks, on Chieften. :D :D

yep we'll be very hard to stop.

what should we do next?

They'll never like us for the rest of the game. We should build
about six swordsman and go kill them. We need to make sure
not to let them ally with the Chinese. I recommend formally
declaring war with them (if you don't know how to do this just
ask). We'll also get a good city out of it.

We are the Zulu, I think we just kill off the rest of the continent.
Since we are militaristic we want a great leader, when we have
elite swordsmen let them heal and then attack with them.
Any other ideas?

sound's good to me. we have iron now? i didn't know it. that's one thing i like about miliataristic people. they are good in a war. other than that they stick to high heaven if it get's to my turn tonight i'll have to get it tommorow and hopefully can do it.

hopefully we get some elite then the jap's go i say.

Ok, here I go. But, umm.. where's the settler and iron? :)

What a minute, that's the 1600 BC save, and you're up to 1,000 something... That's the wrong save! :crazyeyes

Remember that coal turn up in the city radius where we build
the iron city and that city could build the ironworks. We could
get a great city after much jungle clearing.

1075 BC - (0)

Inherited Turn. Clicked for next turn.

1050 BC - (1)

Zimbabwe builds a worker. Switched to colossus and mining begins at the nearest hill. Temple rushed in Ulundi. Settler is headed for the clear spot two spaces to the left. We can get the iron during cultural expansion or by having a colony.

1025 BC - (2)

A Greecian warrior spotted coming out of our land!? Impis brought in by one square to "tighten up this loophole".

1000 BC - (3)

Workers are getting ready to finish the road to iron! Hlobane founded. Temple production started for culture border.

975 BC - (4)

Bapedi is not growing. Colony built on Iron!

950 BC - (5)

Nothing of interest.

925 BC - (6)

Greek town of Sparta is built in the clearing. Bapedi whipped for temple (it can't grow anyway).

900 BC - (7)

Bapedi builds temple. Now building an Impi.

875 BC - (8)

Nothing of interest.

850 BC - (9)

Shanghai seen to the far south. Peace treaty signed with the Japanese.

825 BC - (10)

Scout sneaks through Japanese territory. They're stuck in the north with no escape! :)

800 BC - (11)

Nothing of interest.

775 BC - (12)

An Impi is built! Our continent is starting to resemble England!

750 BC - (13)

The iron square is nearly ours!

730 BC (14)

We have iron! An Impi is securing the Iron Resource. Bapedi switched to swordsmen.

710 BC (15)

A Chinese warrior is eyeing our resource with envy. Bapedi whips out a swordsmen as well. Ulundi whips a barracks.

690 BC (16)

Researching Map Making (40 turns! We really need to crank out our commerce). Literature is next for the Great Library. Chinese warrior turns away from the iron. That's good.

670 BC (17)

Chinese warrior seen moving towards our working. We need to protect them! The Japanese are also move a settler along the mountains!

650 BC (18)

Japanese settler and warrior are approaching our territory! Greek seen fighting. Is it another civ? Scout goes to meet them...
No! It's a barb hut! That Chinese warrior is asking for it. It seems to want to steal a worker!

630 BC (19)

I think the Japanese settler has that cattle in their sights.

610 BC (20)

Settler is blocked for now. An attack may be near.

Here's the "Battle Zone" (the clearing).
Plus, the Japanese have nowhere to go but south.

Just a few notes. Until our culture expands, leave that Impi gaurding the iron. Also, more swordsmen are needed (mainly to defend from the Chinese warriors, and expansion from the north.
I don't think it was a good idea to had made war with the Greeks. We should've let them declare war first. That way, other civs aren't as suspicious. (i.e., make unreasonable requests, and then send in a sacrificial worker).

We have whipped twice now in Ulundi, we shouldn't do it again.
I agree with building the Colossus, it's worth it. If we win a
battle with an Impi we'll get a golden age and will be able to crank out some units and get the Colossus sooner.

I think the Chinese may get itchy once they realize they can't
expand much farther, watch out.

And they've got 3 cities too. This is a continent map, so this is probably only part of the world. (probably 1 more continent. The other games that I play with this setting usually turn out that way).

Have Downloaded, will post later:D Looks interesting, I think we should build our FP in Athens:nya2:

Someone said the Oracle is defunct after Education. thats teh GL The Oracle is at Theology, even earlier, when its similar Wonder the Sistine Chappel becomes avaliable. At Cheiftan especially that single content face isn't of anyreal importance when your first 5 citzens are born content and it has the earliest expiration of any wonder....

My 2 Cents :)

i agree with earl, we shouldn't waste time with it. something else would be good though.

Here's the save
