What goes in to determining whether a Democracy at war will overthrow its government and cause anarcy? Is it a set number of turns, or a function of several different factors. I have a game where i have been at war for close to 30-40 turns under democracy where i was attacked, not the aggressor, and have now had my government overthrown despite having most of my cities in WLTKD celebrations due to luxuries and marketplaces and a 93% approval rating. So it cannot be unhappiness or too much civil rioting. Btw this is a huge map on Monarch difficulty if that factors into the calculations for the game and i have beaten back the invasion after losing a few cities and now taken about 15 Ai cities if that is a problem with so many units now in enemy territory.

If anyone knows what exactly determines this that would be appreciated, thanks. The bastards went into anarcy just as i got motorized transportation to finish the enemy off.

You ask a question that many in this forum have debated. I have not seen anyone produce a equation type format to show the limitations or how the calculation is made.

I've only had war weariness overthrow my government once, and that was during game 1-1 of the CivIII tournament when domination was required, and I was repeatedly ignoring the begging pleas of the English for peace , I think I ended the game in anarchy.

But, obviously the effects of war weariness can be profound as you lose productivity over time.

never had government overthrown. My people love me too much :)

well i was just wondering because my cities are still quite productive, lots of celebrations still, no civil disorder except in newly conquered cities. I have not needed many entertainters if any in my core cities with full luxury resources, marketplaces and about 60 percent spending on entertainment. I am popping out infantry and artillery every two turns from my cities under normal mobilzation to feed the war. I guess there just might be a limit to how long you can keep going even if your citizens are still dancing in the streets?

Conjecture

Turn down the luxuries enough to see a few unhappy people in the city screen. Click on the unhappy people. I think once a majority of the people overall want peace, then it's peace or revolution.

most of them are 63 % or 54%, so i guess that maybe a cause, although ive had this for a while. One thing i can think of is that a few turns previously the Persians who i am fighting, got the babylonians to come to their aid in an alliance, i have a lot of cities that rioted that turn because i took them from the babylonians in a previous war, the "stop the aggression agianst our mother country" pleas. so maybe those disconect citizens put me over the edge and caused the revolution. But thanks, if that is the reason, then that makes sense finally.

I'm pretty sure that the democracies are overthorwn when there is a rioting city. Perhaps did you have an unconnected city in disorder?

That's what I used to think. Lt. Killer posted a game where it was obvious that that was not the case. Even though the actual post had a city in disruption, if you continued the game and restored order (religious civ), the government would collapse again -- even with 100% luxuries.

In the HoF game I'm playing now, I decided to load the game back to a save from when I got the democracy tech and see what would have happened had I gone to democracy then instead of waiting for the war(s) to end. I was at war with several civs for hundreds of years while in a monarchy. While still being at war, I held a revolution. During anarchy all my cities lost the 'WLTK Day'. The first turn I became a Democracy, all my cities went back into 'WLTK' Day and on the very same turn my democracy was overturned!!!! Went back into anarchy  ......

Forced revolution occurs when WW reaches certain level, regardless of your happiness level. So you may have WLTK but still fall in anarchy
