City Name Maps

Are you using the latest SVN version of RFCE?
There might be conflicts in the RFCEmap file
If that's not the problem, I have no clue unfortunately :dunno:
Never heard of anything like this

Yes, the latest one. I'm cheking every day for updates))))
If this error will continue, maybe I will write corrections here. Because Kievan city name map is not correct at all...

You can't save a map in WorldBuilder?
That's really strange...
Not even if you don't edit any labels, just start the normal game, and try to save it in WB?

What I'm making, step by step:
1. I start RFCE as Kievans, open WB and load WB-save
2. It starts RFCE from the main menu, I choose Kievans once again
3. I edit labels with city names, after save
4. New save file is very small, I try to chek it by loading, Civ becomes "non answering", and I start asking here:confused:

Double click on the WB save file which you downloaded from here.
That will start RFCE directly, the only difference is that you will have some labels on the usual map.
You can choose any civ on the civ selection screen, even France or Byzantium (so an 500AD starting civ, without any waiting time), as you are only editing the WB labels
Enter the World Builder, edit the labels, then save in the WB (it's important to save inside WB, and not in the game)

EDIT: From the first post of this thread:
How to edit the maps:
- Download and extract the attached file
- Run the file, you can do that by double clicking on it
- You can start the game with any civ, so even with Byzantium or France (you don't have to wait for the autorun), as only the landmark signs matter
- Enter WorldBuilder, and switch to landmark mode (top left icon)
- Edit the landmarks (right click: remove a previous sign, left click: add a sign to a currently unoccupied spot)
- You can play around with/on the map as long as you wish, the only important thing is to have the city names (and only the city names) in these WB labels in the end
- Save in WorldBuilder (WB save is needed, normal ingame save isn't good), and upload the map back to this thread (the .py file is not needed, only the .CivBeyondSwordWBSave)
General rules with the City Name Maps:
- Historical cities are always preferred, even if they are slightly inaccurate geographically
- Wherever possible, keep the same city name in a 2*2 tile area - to avoid the possibility of 2 cities with the same name
- We have to syncronize the maps as much as possible. So if 2 or more civs have the same tile on their city name maps, then that tile should be the same city

AbsintheRed, could you post the updated copy of the Byzantine city name map (i.e. the one I edited)? My copy seems to have moved all the changes to the landmarks, which makes it a lot harder and more annoying to synchronize the other city name maps.

In my file, the landmarks are the city name map that I edited for Byzantium. The city name map itself (which I edited) has reverted back to the original one. I just want it because it makes it a lot easier to know what cities I need for the Arab and Ottoman maps.

Bump again. ;)

Bump again. ;)

Sry, I'm here, but don't know what to do with you
Already said, that you can first do a general version of the Ottoman and the Arab map I uploaded
You can syncronize everything later.

But if you really want it, you can start doing maps with the other tool, which is better for syncronizing
The disadvantage of that is that only one person can work on the city name maps at a time, but I will merge in Komar's Kievan Rus changes manually..

Yeah, the Byzantine changes are already on the SVN
Anyway, I sent you a PM, not sure if you saw it

Can you give me the updated copy of the Arab and Ottoman city name maps then? That's basically what I need.

They are still attached to one of my posts on the last page, but I presume you don't need them anymore

@Komar:
Did you manage to save non-corrupted files in the WB?

@swinnend:
I also merged in your small dutch update

@Civciv5:
Do you still plan to make some dutch updates on the latest map?

@Komar and DC123456789:
Any news on the city name maps?

Thanks, will check it!

Hey guys!
Are you still working on those city name maps?
Ottomans (DC123456789)
Kievan Rus (Komar)
Dutch (Civciv5)

I'm quite busy, but I will try to post something this week.

Great, will upload the latest version here today
Remember, that you should only use Latin-1 characters, something was wrong last time

Wait, which characters and signs can't I use? Genève, Caïro?
And do I have to work with the city maps in the worldbuilder itself or place landmark signs?
