City Name Maps

Here are the Byzantine, Arab and Ottoman city name maps

I edited the Dutch city name map to include more cities from Belgium, French Flanders and some other cities. Also, the tile where Antwerp currently is located should be settleable, as it was quite an important city.

AbsintheRed, do you mind if I do them all on one file? It's a lot easier to synchronize the maps that way.

Edit: Also, I edited the city name maps themselves rather than the landmarks. Is that okay?

Here's a finished Byzantine city name map. I changed some of the city names of the pre-set cities to be more Greek (i.e. Constantinopolis to Konstantinoupolis, Jerusalem to Hieroslyma, Antioch to Antiocheia, Alexandria to Alexandreia, Tyre to Tyris) so you might want to fix that (or undo it, if you want).

It doesn't really matter for me
We have a great synchronizing tool though, so you don't have to worry about that right now.
If you prefer, you can already start using that.
(that's actually a better tool for editing, I only prefer this uploading-a-single-city-name-map-separately method, because this way more than one people can work on CNM improvements)

Looks awesome, wonderful job on it!
Will change the preset Byz city names to these greek variants.

Thanks Civciv5!
One question though: where did you get the base of the Dutch map?
Also, I saw that you added non Latin-1 characters into the city names.
Unfortunately Civ IV cannot really handle those :/
Caďro, Genčve
AFAIK these are not Latin-1
Should I use Cadro and Genove instead of them?

I think I got it somewhere in this thread, but maybe it is an outdated map on my computer?

Are you referring to the `(grave accent) and ¨ (trema) signs?
Cadro (mispelled?) should be just Cairo then and Genove should be Geneve.

Alright, I will compare it to the current map

No, it's not grave accent or trema
Maybe you just misspelled them

Where are that city names? I don't think I actually wrote that...
Are they were Geneva and Cairo should be or are they somewhere else?

It's in the place of Cairo
But there are some other strange things for me on that map

@Civciv5: I will upload the latest map for you
Could you remake your changes there, with only using Latin-1 characters?

AbsintheRed, could you post the updated copy of the Byzantine city name map (i.e. the one I edited)? My copy seems to have moved all the changes to the landmarks, which makes it a lot harder and more annoying to synchronize the other city name maps.

I'm not sure about your landmark statemant
Not all city names are labels/landmarks on your map?
Anyway, we have an awesome syncronizing tool for RFCE, most parts of it made by Caliom
First you shouldn't really care about the exact syncronizing, you can do it with that after your Ottoman and Arab maps are also ready

I updated the Dutch city map. I removed Charleroi, gave a few German cities their dutch name. While it pains my heart to see Antwerp written only on the marsh, it is to close to Amsterdam (on this map anyway) to get settled anyway.

Now, can I need to replicate this for the German and French names? Otherwise, we might have another language conflict in Belgium.

In my file, the landmarks are the city name map that I edited for Byzantium. The city name map itself (which I edited) has reverted back to the original one. I just want it because it makes it a lot easier to know what cities I need for the Arab and Ottoman maps.

I have a strange problem while editing city name map. When I try to save it, it has much smaller size, about 15-17 kb and after I can't open it.

Are you using the latest SVN version of RFCE?
There might be conflicts in the RFCEmap file
If that's not the problem, I have no clue unfortunately :dunno:
Never heard of anything like this
