After watching The Ring, I thought a city that rains a lot might be a cool place to live. I am not sure which one I like more at this point, Naomi Watt or rain. But I would like to know which city in the world has the most amount of rainfall a year. (rain forest doesn't count, I would like to know about cities!):)

Its not. We get 100+ inches here a year, and believe me, it is not cool.

I think the rainiest city in the world is somewhere in Colombia or Venezuela, but I can't tell you where.

no, it's somewhere near the himalayas i think, near bangladesh.
rainy places arent fun because rain causes landslides and you have to stay in all day and mosquitos are rampant

Rainy days in summer here are one of the few times mosquitos AREN'T out...

Where is 'here'

The Guiness Book of World Records, 2002, says that the world's rainiest area is the Meghalaya State, India. The city of Mawsynram receives 38.94 ft. per year, and Cherrapunji, also in this province, gets 37.5 ft. However , these measures were only for one 12-month period.

The city that you hinted to was probably Buenaventura, Colombia, with 265.47 in. per year, which is 53.46 in. more than the #2 city.

The city in Bangladesh is Sylhet, #7, with 175.47 in.

5 of the top 10 are in the Pacific or near it.

3. Pago Pago, American Samoa
5. Lae, Papua New Guinea
6. Baguio, Philippines
9. Padang, Sumatra, Indonesia
Bogor, Java, Indonesia

Seattle, Washington

Seattle certainly look rainly in the movie 'the Ring'. I kind of like that. I wish to meet this nice girl Samara there. I don't mind Rachel Keller either. :)

Reasonable places (not remote) that get lots of rain include Wales, Seattle, Washington and the Hawaiian island of Kauai.

In Belém, the capital of the brazilian state of Pará, it rains alot every day of the year (in the afternoons).

Its a common misconception, Seattle is actually pretty dry, it just has a lot of cloudy days.

Seattle has a well-deserved wet and rainy reputation, perpetuated not least by the self-depreciating humor of its citizens. It is a pertinent point that the 36 inches of annual rainfall received by Seattle each year is less than the annual rainfall of places like New York. It is just that the rain comes down over a longer period--often precipitating as a slow drizzle, begrudgingly deposited by low lying clouds that seem to hang around far longer than necessary to get the job done.

Vancouver (the lwoer mainland in general) in BC, Canada gets a lot of rain, so does Uculet on the west coast of Vancouver Island, we have a rain forest over there, very nice area. Unless it's raining.

Seattle is usually pretty dry during the summer time. We have our fair share of droughts if there was little snowfall in the mountains to melt during spring.

Although during the rest of the year, it drizzles a lot on and off.

IIRC, some places on the rainy sides of the Hawaiian Islands (Kauai, Maui, Hawaii) can get 200-400 inches of rain a year.

Bah! You go live in some city where it rains all the time and you'll forget to appreciate the rain. Come to Minnesota! You can experience all the kinds of weather. Sun, snow, rain, clouds, thunderstorms, sleet, fog, whatever we got it all (except tropical storms, but noone likes them anyways)!

In my hometown, Bergen in Norway, we had 3055 millimetres (3 metres!!) of rain last year, which was the second wettest year ever recorded. The wettest ever was 1967, with 3069 millimetres.

Maybe not that spectacular in world measures, but still more than enough if you ask me!
