Mr. Novak udnerstand complaint. Municipal funds now 0, high tax nessessary for raising public monies to import crucial services not in city from away: power, water, garbagemen, &c. Otherwse no utility for city & buildings not work.

If your power is given by the voters, the power lies with us.

If the voters decide upon this tax, I shall acquiesce. But I will not accept heinous demands of money-stealing.

The Chairman of the Metro Soviet, Nikolay Pasternak, is happy to announce that one week from today there will be a speech held at the Old South Park between 11:00 am and noon. Along with the speech the Soviet will announce its plan for the year.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Soviet will also like to applaud the Council's efforts at bringing stability; however, it will also like to note that it will not be paying the taxes, nor the businesses and people who have joined the Soviet.

The Downtown Wetland Reclamation Project

Dedicated to restoring the wetlands that this city was built on.

Why would you want a mosquito-ridden wetland in the middle of a city?

Since I've been asked a couple times - I have been holding off on the economic update, in hopes of having some inter-player spending (or at least, non-setup stuff) to handle.

I hope you have a good reason why.

Huge Servings of Warmth

Mr. Boris Ivanchuk, having recently arriving at Metro City noticed that the place was without a proper drinking hole. With such a huge populace around, it was unfair that the men and women didn't have a place to share a drink and relax, among other things. Cafe Cosmopolitan was dedicated to putting the "zing" into the everyday lives. At 39, "Pegleg" Boris has had seen a fair share of the world, starting from the filth and death of the Gulags to the riches of the far east and then again, the bloodhounds of the dark continents vying for power in the political stage. Boris realizes that its the rich & powerful that can survive in this dog-eat-dog world.

The starting business of the Cosmopolitan Group, which aims to expand its business in the entertainment industry and probably later into the media & telecommunications as well. The Cosmopolitan Group, headed by Mr. Boris would be interested in being a part of the council that is dedicated to develop the life and the style of living of the citizens of the Metro City.

FooBAR -Food, Bar, Ale, Rooms, Oh Yes, And You!

To whom it may concern, I've forwarded a proposal where a group can apply for tax-exempt status on the basis of providing a public service.

If you want to put in last-minute orders before the first event update, you've got at least a half hour. If you can't/don't want to do it by that time, no big deal, so don't freak out.

Speech given at the Old South Park said:
Ladies, gentlemen, citizens of Metro, first I would like to thank you for joining me on this nice and cool day. As you surely know, our city has seen better days. Much better days. Though we approve of Council's attempts at bringing order to it, it still has a long way to go. The lack of central authority in previous years has lead to criminals and drug lords ruling the streets. These people care not for you, but instead the quick buck they make selling you illicit commodities and theft of your possessions. We at the Metro Soviet don't want these men around, and surely you don't too. That is why the Metro Soviet is making it its duty to bring the order.

Now, if you would take a look behind me. These two police officers, paid, supplied, and employed by the Soviet, are what is protecting you from the disorder others wish to bring. They only seek to protect you and your family. They only wish to bring order to a city which needs it. The only people they will harm is the people who seek to harm you. However, unless something happens soon we will reach a roadblock. No matter how hard we or the Council tries, no matter how many police officers we have available, and no matter how many of these vile men are imprisoned, order can not be brought to a people who don't want it. Order must first be sought by the people. And surely you want this order after all these years of disorder? So as long as you support our officers and keep calm, they will be able to do what is best for you.

And with that I will leave you. You will find my fellow deputies explaining our plan for this year. Thank you, and good day.

Since I have to post.

Event Update #1

Police reports filed today indicate that $2750 were stolen from Novak's Bread House today. While reports at this time are limited, it appears that the criminals may have been students at Metro University's School of Engineering.

At 10:30 this evening, perhaps one of the most bizarre bank robberies in history occurred. Three men, poorly disguised as elderly women, attempted to enter the Metro Bank. Upon security noticing this, several more men poured in from a red van outside, demanding $25,000 in cash as they held the security and many civilians inside at gunpoint. Though proclaiming themselves as members of the Metro Soviet, intent upon granting the funds to the underprivileged of the city, later events have called doubt upon their identity.

As they began to exit the building, a firefight ensued, leaving the driver of the van, Metro University student Cosme Machado, dead. The vehicle was found at the Metro Soviet headquarters later that evening, with Machado's body still inside, after an initially unrelated investigation into the theft of several rare paintings from the home of councilman Andrzejek Ryszard issued a search warrant of the premises (the paintings were also recovered from the site at this time, and are currently being investigated for evidence).

Though most of the money still remains missing, $5000 were recovered in warehouses and offices across the Arrow Shipping Co.'s port, with much more believed to be stored in the area.

In related news, students on the Metro University campus are now continuing protests late into the night, in response to the police brutality that led to the death of their fellow student.

It is now midnight, same/following day of these events.

Dropping this, can't seem to find the enthusiasm to play.

Economic update will be released as soon as the investigations conclude. Mainly because they involve money, and the police are holding a lot that should probably be returned, at the moment.

The Metro Soviet would like to again deny its involvement in the crimes committed earlier this night. And to those considering doing such acts in our name, this is not the way. While we know you have the best intentions, right now we need to stop this criminal activity, for that will help the people more than any amount of money would.

As for the investigation, as the van was found at the Metro Soviet Council building the Soviet will join / start an investigation into who did this and why.
