High Priest Athanasius Kell's Sermon on the Festival of the Thousand Martyrs
-
Faithful of the Tribunal Temple, as we celebrate this day the Festival of the Thousand Martyrs who suffered and died for the faith, for the upholdance of the right way of the seven strictures, for the common good of this city where our Prophets lived and died and illuminated the shadows of the worlds ignorance.
The tale of these martyrs suffering for the enlightenment of the world is truly pertinent even at this hour, as lying tongues and errant minds continue to bring darkness onto our city, seeking to decieve the faithful. I talk of course about the upcoming elections to the Mayor of this fair city, and the city council, and of the intrusions of the gravest apostasies and heresies by foreign religions seeking to corrupt our city for their own ends.
The First Baptist Church even now spreads their errant philosophy to those whos minds are unfortified and easily decieved. They spread their doctrine of faith alone, denying the necessity of sacrifice and discipline, of works and contrition, of submission to the will of the Maker over the weak and mortal desires of human desires. They dismiss the horror of iniquity with a false assurance of guaranteed salvation, speaking honeyed words of unconditional forgiveness without obligation from the faithful. They speak a lie designed to drag the unwary into the void of the Outsider and corrupt our cities fair society and traditions. For with their acceptance of license they reject the discipline that made us strong, pointing us on a road to egotistical illusions of the grandeur of the self, to blind pursuit of material things, and ultimately to apostasy against the Maker and to oblivion.
We are warned against such error, for it is written "Restrict an errant mind before it becomes fractious and divided. Can two enemies occupy the same body? No, for the first will direct it one way, and the second another, until they stumble into an abyss. Likewise, two contrary thoughts cannot long abide in a man's mind, or he will become weak-willed and subject to any heresy."
You the faithful are called to stand with a strong mind and fortified will against the deceptions around you. You are called to evangelise the heretics and the apostate lest they fall into ruin. You are called to do all you can to ensure the strength of our people. This brings me back to the point I mentioned on the upcoming elections. The Temple of the Divine Tribunal ,seeing the acquiescance to error engaged in by a certain candidate has concluded that the faithful can only deign supporting John Murdoch, a faithful son of the temple and a true scion of our city. He believes as the Temple does that every man can through the discipline of the seven strictures can strive towards purity in the eyes of the Maker, and that through hard work and rigid adherence to the strictures in this world attain temporal contentment. As a faithful son of the Temple he values THE TRUTH, and we call upon all the faithful to support him, and urge him forward in upholding the strictures in this cities civil life as he does in his own personal life. For errant teaching cannot be allowed to remain unaddressed and unrestrained, for it is known that error has no rights, and the common good demand rigid adherence to the truth. To this end, I your High Priest shall also run for a position on the city council in the hope that if elected the traditional values an beliefs of this city will be presented and defended by my presence, and that our faith and traditions are maintained against the corruptions of foreign faiths and their errant and dangerous teachings.
