CityIOT

Dr. Herman Schuller

Dr. Herman Schuller is a mysterious old German doctor who arrived in the city 10 years ago. Not many people know what he is like, as he keeps to himself. However, he built a hospital that provides excellent health care to the middle-class. Even his friends barely talk to him, and what goes on at his home is anyone's guess.

Schuller's Healthcare

Schuller's is the middle-class hospital of the city. The rich have private doctors, the poor go to churches and clinics, but the middle-class needed a way to get premium healthcare, and Dr. Schuller provides it. His methods are sometimes strange, but anyone who doesn't like them uses one of the other doctors in the hospital.

The Doctor will accept employees as needed, without a thought to personal background and past income, as long as they have relevant skills.

There is a building near the hospital that has doctor's suites, so the widest assortment of healthcare is provided. In addition, the hospital also has a park adjacent to it, mostly for patients, but open to the public in general.

Buildings and House:
Spoiler :
Hom - Doctor's Home. A nice-looking home, but it's usually shuttered and dark.
Hos - The Hospital. There are currently 5 floors, but the Doctor is always muttering something about adding another building.
D - Doctor's suites. The place to go when you need general healthcare.
P - The park. Your everyday park. Everyone thinks it should expand to another block, but hospitals are expensive to run.

I'm fine with Metro, or some variant.
TBH, the reason I didn't give it a name from the start was to reduce deliberate parallels with RL or existing fictional cities.

On a slow news day, Metro News has talked about the important places within the City.

OOC: I altered the larger Mosher Buildings as CivO told him to make them smaller, by doing so I managed to fix any multiple claims. Not everyone has a house, the unlabelled dark red buildings are AA's which don't have titles yet. EDIT *facepalm* I did one of AA's claims in grey instead of royal red. Oh well its not official and I can't be bothered editing it.

But... butcher shop the size of a city block. :(

Yourself: Jack Tanners

Little is known about Jack Tanners besides an impressive military career. Lying about his age, the orphaned Tanners distinguished himself on the field of combat and was considered a possible recruit for the SEALS before a viscous enemy attack cost him his right eye. Upset at being thrown out over what he considered an "inconsequential injury", he later went into private enterprise and hired himself out as a mercenary. He did just as well in that field as he had in the army, and soon founded a private military company of his own.

Jack Tanners' motives are almost as mysterious as he is. The few who have met him consider him to be surprisingly patient and even willing to help out those in need. If the actions of the MAS is any indication, Tanners appears to be highly opposed to crime and corruption, and prefers to distance himself from socialism and similar ideological groups.

Your Organization: Machina Syndicate (MAS)

The Machina Syndicate is a private military contractor with ties to several businesses and organizations within the city. The hierarchy of the company is structured similarly to a professional army, with strict rules and guidelines at nearly every level. Individual members are expected to be entirely obedient, but autonomy among the ranks increases the higher you go up the chain of command.

While the MAS has not officially announced any goals, it's clear that they don't act on behalf of any political agenda or social class. They have made alliances when necessary with both sides in conflicts and broken them just as easily. Criminal organizations seem to be the prime target of offensive actions taken by the MAS. In addition, the MAS has supported politicians who are tough on corruption and against government intervention.

There are few restrictions on entry into the MAS, but that doesn't mean it's easy to be a member. Many can't make it through the tough training phase, but those who do come out all the better for it. Even the lowest ranked MAS members, while few in number, are incredibly well trained. Naturally, those with military backgrounds do very well in the organization, and the MAS welcomes many veterans who would be unable to seek employment elsewhere.

Your Home: The MAS is based in a five-story building commonly referred to as the Citadel. The name is not entirely inaccurate. The Citadel is a very well-protected building which serves as the nerve center for all MAS operations in the city. Jack Tanner and other high ranking members of the MAS reside here, so security is incredibly tight.

Buildings: $60K

Spoiler :

Cit: The Citadel (See above)

Vul: Vulcan Enterprises: A lesser company owned by the MAS, Vulcan specializes in weapons development and basic electronics. Believed to be the primary weapon supplier for the MAS, the sale of electronics also helps the company to turn a tidy profit.

East: MAS East. This building serves as a secondary base for MAS members as well as one of the more popular recruitment stations. While not as well defended as the Citadel, it is still bristling with enough defenses to stave off unwanted attention.

South: MAS South. Unsurprisingly, the building functions in the same way as MAS East. Unlike MAS East though, part of the facility also serves as a homeless shelter and soup kitchen. Besides the obvious benefits to the community, the MAS has been known to score a handful of recruits from the regulars.

Yeah, because saying that this game is going to die is the PERFECT way to ensure that it doesn't.

Oh awesome. Metro City. How exciting. It's definitely the best name ever.

Way better than Urist McCity.

Police H.Q: H.Q of the Oakley Police Unit.

More info will come later on.

But... butcher shop the size of a city block. :(

You mean the size it used to be or the size that it is now? :P It's still huge but CivO wanted it smaller then it was.

Sorry, I was rushing, if I make another one I'll keep to the shapes you made, but I'm sure the official map is doing that anyway, that one is just so everyone knows where everyone else is.

Awesome! We have more conflict for the news!

Yourself - Nicholas di Ancona

Your organization - The Southern Family. A strictly legitimate family of Italians that control many businesses and for some reason receive monthly payments from many businesses in it's area. The family is very private and works for itself. Anyone can join with permission, by marrying someone in the family. The Family primarily looks to consolidate it's hold over it's area rather then expand recklessly over the entire city.

Spoiler :

The buildings that I own are in gold.

H-DF - My Home.
AMart - AMart, short for AnconaMart, is a small grocery store owned by the family
SApart - Southern Apartments, a small apartment building which leases terribly small apartments to the city's poor. Some call it's owners slumlords, but they prefer to think of it as community service
ACon - Ancona Construction, a shoddy-building construction company that often suspiciously overcharges for it's orders
WMan - The AnCo. Waste Management Group, a small fleet of cheap pickup trucks used as dumptrucks by the poor area of town, in exchange for payments from the areas citizens

... you do realize you're setting up shop right next to another criminal organization, right? And Jeho isn't strictly a good guy either.

The Triumph Movement [Political Movement]

Spoiler :
2mmtfsk.jpg

Leader: A mysterious man known as "John Smith". He leads the party from afar, and nobody alive knows his face or what he looks like. He sends agents and the like to communicate and spread his agenda, as well as give his orders for the party. FYI: John doesn't live in his house, he lets different officials or party members stay there and keep the place running.

Referred to simply as "The Triumph", "The Victory", or "The Movement", the political movement is based on the liberation of the working class. The middle and laboring classes are focused in the group. "Lazy" people, such as beggars and the poor, are shunned, while the "greedy" rich are despised as well. The movement has two faces. The first is that many members live daily lives, lending some help by harboring a fellow Party member or donating to the Party. Among these include mechanics, constructors, intellectuals, and other passive forces that further the Party. The second is the more involved and active members - these members are organizing rallies, marching through the streets, and setting up blockades and boycotts. Drawn from these more active members are those who are willing to use violence and force to spread their ideals.

Bob's Guns: A large manufacturing plant owned by a devout member of the Party. Bob and his family operate the factory, churning out guns and firearms that get sold at a discount to Party members. Many other 'organizations' place large orders for guns and ammunition, and this helps bring new funds to the Party.

Rally Center: A large building in a lecture-hall style. A massive seating area houses many of the Party, with a large raised platform with a podium for speeches. The banner of the Movement hangs behind the Podium. It has housing and supplies for some fervent Party members that lack homes themselves. Weapons are secretly stowed in the Rally Center, should the Party need to arm itself on short notice.

"The" University: Not endorsed by a particular person, and not dedicated to a person or a culture subtype, the educational facility is simply known as "The University". The Party completely funds the building, and staff employees are strictly Party members. The University teaches an assortment of intellectual courses and studies, but has an impressive physical fitness and "training" program. Young men and women graduating from The University are usually excellent combatants, although such training is not openly discussed or mentioned.

Also -- the university needs to be doubled in size, if not more. I don't know how it got so SMALL.
