Civ 4 Rants Thread

Ah! Not pimp enough, guys... come on! They're playing Starcraaaaft. Serious matter. Not something delusional like sex & politics.
Flash is the greatest electronic player, all-times, all video games included.
In a very different genre and due to its unique physics engine, only Quake 3 could hope to rival the skill level that was achieved in Starcraft. But Quake 3 is ranked a very far away 2nd.

Pimp!

I am not sure, but I think I encountered it just now for the first time: homesick barbs! I captured a barb city around 800 BC and apparently because there is another tiny barb village on the other side of the continent beyond the Roman empire in the tundra somewhere, I get only 50% (because I have not build a culture building) and the rest are homsick for Barbary Motherland. This is ridiculous... the Barb cities do not belong to a common nation, they are just independent Barbs...

They may take our cities...

But they will never take
OUR CULTURE!!!!

Another point I was reminded of is "ghost culture". Apparently culture lingers for thousands of years on the site of a razed city, if no other culture influences the square. So if you found your own city there or adjacent to this spot, it starts with a certain percentage of the old culture as long as other cities of the civ remain. Usually not a problem I guess, but it might lead to the homesickness unhappiness after some growth...

I always assumed that all culture a tile accumulates remains registered until the end of the game. I just that that it was inactive in some circumstances, say razed city. Maybe there is a culture decay factor or perhaps it is just slowly dominated by newly generated culture points.

But even a Barb can miss home . . .

Civ 4 is terrible.

1. Bad graphics. Civ 4 looks like it was made during the Bush years. The units are ugly, the terrain is all messed up looking, and the interface is nausea inducing.
2. Squares. The square tiles are lame. I want to play a strategy game, not Sid Mieir Chess.
3. Stacking Units. I'm supposed to believe 400 tanks are piled up on top of each other all the way to the moon?
4. Religion. It doesn't do anything as all religions have the same generic abilities. Boring.
5. Health. Oh fun, micromanaging city sanitation.
6. Road spam.
7. Vassal states. Blah.

It's funny, everything you say other than the graphics I prefer the other way around. Each to his own I guess.
