Civ 5 and Magic Online don't get along

I have been trying to run both Civ 5 and Magic Online at the same time (waiting between rounds of a tournament is tedious, so I wanted to fill up the gap with some Civ), but it appears they don't get along at all.

About 80% of the time, when switching focus between windows, one or the other crashes for me. I was wondering if others experience the same issue and if there is a possible solution for this.
