I just read the last two pages of posts here and I'm getting the impression that Steam is going to be required to play Civ 5; is this correct? If it is correct I will prob. not being playing Civ 5. [...] If they make it so you have to verify your copy of Civ online before playing thats fine, but don't require Steam to play. Not only does it take forever to download 5+ gigs (even in 2010)
The possibility of leaders as DLC is one of the things we're raging here at the moment.
You're welcome if you want to join.
Yeah. The DLC issue is something worth raging on. Which makes it funny that most people are stuck in some sort of random "Steam r malware, Valve r evil!" thing.
It's like if I told someone I spilled a bit of water on their carpet, and set fire to their couch, and then they reacted with pure rage at the thought of my spilling some water on their carpet.
"I HAVE TO GET OUT A SHEET OF PAPER TOWEL!? GRRRR!"

I'm rather neutral with Steam, but the thought of DLC really angers me.
This sounds like it may be taking away from the civ experiance in some areas and adding in others. I think they should change the way resources run out i know this is more realistic but will probably be a pain in the ass
Civ5 will requiere steam to activate the game.
Afterwards you can set steam to offline mode, so that you don't have to connect.
You can also by Civ5 as a hard copy in a store, so that you don't have to download it, but it will still need Steam for the activation.
