Civ 5 Confirmed Features

I have to admit that I am having trouble envisioning a realistic and hassle free road maintenance system for roads in neutral terrain (unowned territories).

Roading maintenance could be a win for the micro managers...

Civ5 will requiere steam to activate the game.
Afterwards you can set steam to offline mode, so that you don't have to connect.
You can also by Civ5 as a hard copy in a store, so that you don't have to download it, but it will still need Steam for the activation.

so basically you need an internet connection to play the game...WOW, that will kill some sales, and since my last steam game and the neverending hassels with steam, I will never go there..so that means I either don't buy it..or wait till someone cracks the game so I can play without the hassle of steam

Sorry what I meant, what I was trying to say is "Sure they might go extinct". ;) Ohh I'm getting sloppy... :crazyeye:

I'm still about to cry
I can't think of a civ without RFC (or whatever he chooses to call his next version)

Under the Terrain heading it said this:

Terrain Types

Grassland/Marsh/Plains/Desert
Snow, Tundra
Mountains/Hills, Hills provide more Defence
Several types of Forest/Jungle representing the four major land masses of Europe, Asia, Africa & America, wounded units can hide and recover in trees/forests.
Coast/Ocean/Lakes/Rivers Rivers affect those attacking across it.

Coast and Ocean will still be the only two types of terrain.
So, what type would the Mediterreanan Sea be?
We know The Romans, Carthaginians, early Greeks, early Egyptians and more all sailed across this sea.
Ancient Phoenicia 1550 BC–539 BC used galleys to dominate the sea trade.

So, will the Mediterreanan Sea have to be coast to make this possible?
I agree we need an Ocean tile to represent the deeper waters, and delay us from "Discovering America" too early, so, shouldn't there be a middle tile as well?
I thought they had one in an earler version of Civ.
They need to bring it back to have a this Sea and the water depth, better represented.

True, because it's a bit strange when I allow my work boat to explore, it almost circumnavigates the whole globe!

my mistake and I do apologise for it, I should have added more info, but was angry at the time about the shortcomings of the DRM, I still buy games, but for the difficult ones I use other means to play them (how else would I get some of the cool stuff included in) Heck I still have the collectors Baldurs Gate 2 pack, with the cloth map and ring bound manual

I wasn't really aware of what Steam is, but after getting the jist of it I'm not surprised it's not something that Sid wouldn't be in full support of. After all they made Marx a great person.

What?
And how could you now know what Steam is? You've been leaving under a rock, lol

Turkey is already in as the Ottomans, Italy might be too similar to Rome for Firaxis to include, and Canada hasn't had a big enough effect on world history for Firaxis to include.

I think it's ironic you said this. It's more likely to be people who spend very little time at a computer who haven't heard of Steam. I only learned about it last year when I got TF2. There are people out there who have had diverse and varying experiences, ones different from yours. You really shouldn't be all that surprised by that. I mean, it's not as if Steam is in the nightly news or anything.

I remember reading somewhere this was one of the reasons... :crazyeye:

Are people feeling compelled to build roads they don't want to?... That's a joke

Sadly it's not... I'm definitely compelled to build them, I mean I didn't like the spider net look on my lands, but sooner or later I had to turn worker automatisation back on...

Modding: The tools for the modding community in Civilization V far eclipse anything they’ve included in previous versions. They have a stand-alone application that will be included that makes things incredibly easy to create your own maps, your own rules and, basically, your own sandbox world to play in. You no longer have to actually be in the game using the in-game interface to design maps. There are even tools to auto-localize maps. Granted, it may be a rough localization, but it is still there and a possibly useful tool nonetheless.

They are also allowing anyone playing the game to download, play and rank any mod that is available in their system. They’ve built better community features into the game so the average player can take advantage of some of these mods. In previous iterations, only the really hardcore dealt with mods because, to some degree, they were difficult to set up and the ways to obtain them were rather obscure, unless you were part of a modding community. Now they’re bringing that community into the game itself, so even players without any mod knowledge whatsoever can make use of them to expand their enjoyment of the game.

In this article it also confirms scalability, and using dx9. I havent heard anything about the map making program either, not sure if its new or not.

Does this mean you won't have to know XML or Python or anything like that to make a mod? If so, the I'm excited!

Seriously? I would be willing to bet not one person on the entire planet who actually plays Civ4 DOESN'T have some sort of internet connection. And I'd much rather have DRM via a one-time Internet verification than needing to pop the CD in every time I played (assuming you didn't use the no-CD crack).
