Civ 5 Confirmed Features

The two of you see that both of the topics are very closely related to each other, don't you?

I am not going to blow up this thread with the discussion, too. For more info see the respective "Steam"-threads.

I suppose they're close. My main gripe with steamworks is the fact that steam is required, unlike Civ4 where it was merely an option (and a poor one at that, seeing as how some people had troubles with mods). Thinking about it, although I highly doubt that steam encourages DLC (unlike some other posters), I do think that the Steam platform will make it more convenient for developers to push DLC.

##Irrelevant crap alert!##

Funny how your mind can wonder sometimes. :coffee:
So I was just thinking (irrelevant crap coming, but stick with me).

1. I was thinking about the movie "Fourth Kind"...
2. Then I thought of the city of Anchorage, Alaska, mentioned in the movie...
3. Then I remembered how I founded that city in civ4 earth map once...
4. Then I thought of how nice and cozy it was to have North America all to myself...
5. Then I imagined how would it be in civ5 in similar situations...
6. Then I thought about defending that area in civ5 with the new combat system and all...
7. Then I thought about how units will be able to transform into transports and just "swim" on me...
7. Then I remembered how Aztecs constantly attacked me from the south.
8. Then I thought about defending that area against Aztecs in particular.
9. Then I remembered the new "choke point" tactic aka "300" mentioned in previews and screen shots...
10. Then AGAIN I thought about how units will be able to transform into transports and just "swim" on me...

You see where I'm going with this? What will stop the sneaky Aztecs to just "swim" around Gerard Butler???

Every thought leads to civ! Unbelievable! :crazyeye:
Eh too much coffee... :twitch:

That's some serious Insane Troll Logic.

Not that I'm calling you an insane troll.

I am sorry if this question was asked but won't it be ever possible to play Babylonia if I don't preorder deluxe edition?

Of course. It's just going to be exclusive for the initial sales period. See the Total War DLC and how they developed. Even if it doesn't modders are clever enough to "simulate" them.

Babylonia is part of the Deluxe edition, its not a pre-order bonus.

The map pack on the other hand, is.

LMAO!!

I did the same maths with the bottle neck, but then units all self "transporting" across water...
There will have to be some limits depending on technology on how soon they can cross large expanses of water.
I think I prefer transports etc as their own seperate unit that land units need to board.

My brother has just informed me that I am wrong and can in fact up grade my drive, not my graphics though.:(

I agree, and I know that if I was personally stuck in that particular situation, and the option for my troops to suddenly learn how to swim around the enemy existed, I would undoubtedly have them do so.

and while you were thinking all that did you stop to think how world map scenarios will play out without unit stacking, or will you still be able to use cities as canals?

and while you were thinking all that did you stop to think how world map scenarios will play out without unit stacking, or will you still be able to use cities as canals?

You saw steps 5,6 and 9 didn't you? "New combat system and all..." would obviously involve "one unit per tile" rule I thought... And it seems I was wrong, I should have written down every detail it seems. Also "choke point" tactic wouldn't be much of a help with unit stacking. The whole point of the "new" tactic is that enemy can only attack with one unit at a time (in choke points that is).
"In similar situations" means what it means, being similar situation, not the exactly same map. I didn't mean that at least, perhaps my understanding of "similar" is wrong (not my native language, not even secondary) in which case shame on me. World map scenarios? That is not even the point. The point was the conflict between "choke point" tactic and unit "self transporting" that's torturing my head. My earth map example was good for reference in the end, because people are familiar with world map and quickly understood the "similar" (making that mistake again, am I?) situation I meant, no?
And canals? How is that relevant to my already quite irrelevant post?

Here I thought I could share random thoughts about civ, jokes, speculations etc. with my fellow civ fanatics... and this is what I get? What did I do to deserve this attitude?
Or did I misunderstand you? I have a habit of misunderstanding peoples intentions.

what attitude? I was just pointing ot that world map serios like Rhys and Fall will unfortunately go extinct in the new version of civ due to the new play mechanics.

Did misunderstand then.
Well I don't know about scenarios like rhys and fall... Sure they might go extinct but others will take their places for sure. ;)

Sorry, someone may have clarified this already, but whats the story with roads costing maintenance!?

Road maintenance's goal is to prevent players from building them everywhere so that they have to make interesting decisions.

You'll have to build roads that make sense like connecting cities and resources. Buildin extra useless roads will cost you with no profit in them...

Which is full circle from the original civ, where roads got you commerce...

I think it is kind of weird to have them cost maintenance, depending on the scale of the game, unless commerce is adjusted to compensate somehow.

But, what do I care, not getting it anyhow!

7. Then I thought about how units will be able to transform into transports and just "swim" on me...
10. Then AGAIN I thought about how units will be able to transform into transports and just "swim" on me...

Ok. So the developers probably got this idea in Rise of Nations where scout and other units MAGICALLY turn themselves into transports after researching a tech.

So yeah. Too much coffee. :twitch:

Road maintenance's goal is to prevent players from building them everywhere so that they have to make interesting decisions.

Everyones still guna connect both cities and resources with them; and after that how many interesting decisions can you make re. roads!?

Away from the above mentioned the only advantage they can give you is more mobility in your own borders than a civ attacking you gets. Is that what they want to remove?? Cos if it's not that then it's a joke.

Some people don't like the spagetti look all over their terrain. I imagine they would build less roads. I don't mind it so I build more. Surely that's personal preference.
And it will annoy many of us when we're used to roading whatever we want.
