lol... kinda hard.
but not so much.
have just to prove than the infinite limite of (integral of 1/x) is the infinite. (that's almost a definition.. I don't remember how to prove it). then getting to prove that the volume obtained by rotation of said integral is infinite should be easy.
as for Xienwolf's comments: (and PPQ's)
I completly disagree.
It's not because a pun is not funny that it is not a pun.
Well, it is true that most of those said before were just mispelling using another real word.
But it doesn't make fun of people who make grammar errors... as it's typically not grammar + it's not a mockery.
I'm not a native engish-speaker. And i find it funny, not rolf-like funny, but tiny-smile-like funny. If only as it allows me to see how people tried to mispell a word.
AND I quoted two sentences that made sense (no punchline, but they made sense).
If a wordplay (I did not say a good one) can not be defined by saying a sentence that has a primary meaning but use another word that can give it a secondary meaning, I don't knwo what it is.
A reputation for good grammar is something that should never be taken for granite. can mean (bla-bla) for granted, or using granite as an analogy of eternal + solide. It makes sense in that way. thus it becomes a pun, even if it is a bad one.
and
don't count on me to bake a stupid pun like you guys. can be thought as (bla-bla) make a (blah blah), or it also makes sens with bake being used in the sense of cook (and there the sentence make a lot of sense, doesn't it?), meaning constructing with lots of preparation and thougth and totaly artificial. That second sense, IMO, adds a depth to the normal way of writting. Especially as being a non-native speaker, I really had to think hard to cook a pun, even if it is not so funny.
well, to be true, IIRC, ln x approaches infinity... but with a lower pace than x, so x - ln x approaches infinity.
Oh... that's so old... I can't get those thing strait now. And to say I knew it 10 years ago...hahaha.
Can we just agree on the fact that I don't like that particular brand of humor and that I generally find it unfunny and lame.
And no, it's just a regular math exam.
However, unlike Valkirion I absolutely despise math.
Well, no. ln x approaches 0 at x= infinity. The area under ln x approaches infinity, however, which is the important part for volume.
> Int( (x-1)/x dx,x=1..Inf)
> Int( 1-1/x dx)
> x - ln x
> I believe this diverges as x->Inf
I thought he was trying to prove it was finite. Infinite FTW!Had to prove that the volume of 1/x, rotated about the x-axis from 1 to infinity, is infinite. Which of course you can tell just by looking at it, but figuring a way to prove it while burnt out from first a Physics exam and then the Calc exam... Was fun.
???
Pretty sure ln x approaches infinity as x does, just more slowly. Otherwise O(N ln N) would compute instantaneously as N gets large![]()
I agree with Hbar
ln x approches infinity when x is infinite.
BUT
ln x reaches minus infinity when x approaches zero...
Maybe he meant the slope? D(ln x) = 1/x, which approaches 0 at x=inf
The original problem (I believe) was:
Code:> Int( (x-1)/x dx,x=1..Inf) > Int( 1-1/x dx) > x - ln x > I believe this diverges as x->Inf
But it's been so long since I did rotations, there might be a flaw in there.
Edit: looked up the original problem:
I thought he was trying to prove it was finite. Infinite FTW!
Sigh. Sorry, was designing something while posting that (first civ5 mod) and typed the wrong problem.
Now I see why 1.31 is taking so long.![]()
But you can't actually GLOAT to someone, so what's the point? The only good thing that comes of it is the personal sense of smug.Ah, maybe no glory, but endless pleasure from gloating, yes.![]()

Can't you gloat once the game goes public?
"Ha ha, I fooled you guys all along, made you think it'd be sweet, but now you're all dissapointed, neener!"
