It has been a loooong time since I visited this forum, and I wonder... what do you think about Civ V right now, so many months after its release? Do you find it better than Civ IV BTS, or not? Maybe some of you, who thought that Civ V is worse, changed their mind? And vice versa?

I have my answer. The most meaningful is fact that I play Civ IV to this day (not everyday, but surely every week), while I played my Civ V last time... few months ago. For few minutes...

Want to play a tactics game? Panzer General Series.
Want to play a strategy game? Civ IV BtS.

wrong forum. I do like Civ5 a little more now, but it still annoys the hell out of me. People have said it has no bad things to penalize the player. I actually disagree. My last game I only had 4 units, and I was running negative gold. I had no ability to fund an army, and got overrun. How is that fun?

I never had such money problems in Civ4.

I'll be the token vote for Civ V.

Haters gonna hate.

Civ IV doesn't get really good until BTS.

True but you can get CIV IV complete (or gold) and have all the features and all the leaders you could want for civilization. They are just now implementing religion in a Civ V expansion.

Civ III

1. Civ IV
2. Civ III
3. Civ II
4. Civ V
5. Civ I

This list may have a bit of nostalgia in it, but I stand by it.

Though, SMAC is the actual best game in the series.

I'm still a pretty big fan of Civ III. :)

Civ4 = Godlike best in series game which beats everything in the genre.

Civ5 = Boring lump of... Well, lets just say I haven't bothered firing it up in months and I've been playing and loving the Civ series since Civ1.

The correct answer for me is, "I don't know" because I haven't played Civ5 (beyond the demo). I did consider buying it at 75% off last night, but then considered that's without any of the DLC, and without the upcoming expansion, which, if it follows Civ4's pattern, will make it a lot better. As the so-so experience of Civ4 Vanilla soured me on that iteration for years, I suspect Vanilla Civ5 would do the same. But, I haven't played it, so I can't say definitively.

Overall, I prefer Civ3 to Civ4. But Civ4 BTS is a lot closer to Civ3 Conquests than Civ4 Vanilla was to Civ3 Vanilla. Had I waited until BTS was out to play Civ4, I might have actually preferred it to Civ3.

The new Civ5 expansion does look quite promising. I think I will be pleased. I just wish they had focused more on trade, and expanded on it separately from diplomacy. I want a separate trade screen like in Call to power.
