Civ V Ideas & Suggestions Summary

I don't hate GA's. I like them in the game, and I like the culture bomb. In my humble and subjective opinion, it's worth a little too much. But that's - obviously - debatable, of course.

Well I would've personally thought that they are a very useful Great Person, due to the culture bomb, but the impression I get is that the general consensus is that Great Artists are one of the weaker Great Persons. So weakening them further is not really the right way to go. And there are a lot of things in line for realistic fixes before the semi-realistic culture bomb by a Great Artist.

In regards to what decimatus has been saying, I agree and it is why I have quit playing the game. It's is just too unrealistic. You are not governing a nation or an empire but rather a group of city states like the actual Greecian Empire.

Cities should be able to transferr wealth, food, resources, hammers to any other cities to direct construction of a building or wonder.

Banana plantations are a very good example of this. In the game, every city that is connected to the plantation has the health benefit but no extra food is supplied to the cities recieving the benefit.

For Civ 5 I would like a much better and user-friendly map editor.

I'd also love the ability to more finely control the random maps.

i.e. the ability to specify:

- the number of islands
- the number of continents
- the average size of each in tiles
- how close they're allowed to be
- how far away they're allowed to be
- whether to spread resources evenly or cluster them
- whether to keep certain landmasses free of civilization at the start
etc.

I'd also prefer less rock-paper-scissors combat.

I'm probably repeating myself, but I space things like what I've said. So with that in mind ...

My Civ5

First, besides the app itself the main directory would have the following three folders; Art, Scenarios, and Text.

Text would contain all text files. Civilopedia and PediaIcons for example. Scenario specific files would be found in sub-sub-folders under a scenario folder.

Art would contain everything to do with graphics and presentation, interface, terrain, units etc. Scenario specific art would be placed in sub-sub-folders under the scenario names. The main Art folder and the appropriate sub-folders would also include XML and like files, since XML is concerned with presentation.

Scenario would hold all the scenario files, and only the scenario files. Art and text packages would go in their respective folders.

All versions --- Linux, Mac, Unix, and Windows --- would do things the same way. Make it easier for people to make cross platform mods.

All versions of Civ5 would come with an editor. An editor furthermore capable of allowing the modder to change graphics, behaviors, rules etc.

The modder would be able to change anything about the game if he wants to. Nothing would be hard coded into the system.

Because dozens of scenarios and scenario folders can get a bit unwieldy, then the main folders would have sub-folders organized into subjects. Subjects such as Historical, Fantasy, and Alternate History. So Rhye's of History would be found in Art/History/Rhye's, Text/History/Rhye's, and Scenarios/History/Rhye's. For the general game there would be General Folders. Expansion packs would get expansion specific folders that could be installed into the main Civ% installation

The goal whereto the last is to make upgrading Civ5 with each new expansion pack easier.

Finally, Civ5 would be compatible with G4 Macs because I know what it's like to be limited to an older PC. Same applies to older IBM Clones and Unix machines.

And there, rather disorganized, you have, in broad terms, how I would do Civilization 5.

BTW, Civ 5, Colonization would definitely be one of the expansion pacs. Colonization and a special Mod Pack drawn from the work done for Civ3 and Civ4 here at CivFanatics. I shall expand on my thinking later in this thread.

Here's an idea: when you move your unit manually, all the tiles adjacent to each tile the unit moves to are visible. However, if you move a number of squares at once (using the 'Go To' command), then you only see the tiles adjacent to the end tile. It would be nice if you didn't have to manually move your unit to see the tiles adjacent to your path, when you are taking the same path anyway by using 'Go To'. All tiles adjacent to the path should be illuminated.

I have suggestion regarding research. What about if the project which is waiting to be researched is no pre-defined in research scheme, but it is flexible and suit to the summary of your nation DNA ( history facts) + your active behavior ( agressive, peacfully, science, economically..) + RNG. In theory that means if you are very aggresive, you are Zulu and you discover a wheel - very likely you receive option to research something connected to your warmonger stile. This could be done something like great people in Civ 4 ( combined points depending of what you want).
I know this is odd suggestion, but this could take this game into undefined direction especialy how to establish a balance between warmonger and science peacefully nation. Off course here is possibility for intelligence perspective in the game, spies, money and religion could be countermeasures and balance makers.

I quite like Fall From Heaven's way of making you specialise in one field. Maybe there's some application for that?

I'm looking extremely foreword for civ 5 I liked civ 4 but I felt like Firaxis was just suger coating it with each new expansion, and it still felt like a war game and the promised diplomacy sucked. And some of the civics didn't really make any sense to me, the worst I thought was Democracy. It just didn't fell like civ and I couldn't well get addicted to it like civ 3 . These are my wishes hopefully they can come true.

1. Better diplomacy and a better more sophisticated United Nations (Didn't like that only the strongest could become secretary)

2.Better graphics (I know graphics may not matter or you cant have it and good game too. I don't believe that, But think about civ 3 graphics, to me way better and looked like they put effort)

3. More sophisticated ways to govern your civ (For me state property could have been more specific is total or socialist or like slavery who exactly is a slave your own people or conquered people.

4. More building options for workers (Like civ 3 because I miss those improvements like an airfield.)

5.I don't know if I really care about this or if it does need improvement. Character traits I thought some of the leaders traits were quite weird or useless in civ 4

6.Better more exciting not repetitive battles. And I know this might change what civ really is but you have turned based when you move a unit and then it zooms in to the tile (or hexagon) and becoming like a mini RTS.

7. Like every one else smarter AI,because most of them just want war.

8. More realistic trade and like civ2 ship supplies to cities.

9. This is my favorite idea so far deeper customization of units

10. A modding program like civ3! We all can't speak techie Firaxis.

11. And my second favorite Idea bring it to the consoles.(I'm sorry but ever sense I got my 360 I got tired of the computer with upgrading everything constantly etc. And you can throw another stone at me but I think computer gaming is endangered.)

12.Bring back old terrain like marsh, volcano and possibly new ones.

13. And lasts but not least (and hopefully I stop editing and adding ) Make more realistic (politics)

14. Not can't help it I noticed civ 5 might be a hexagonal grid but what about an option to choose what type of grid regular square grid like civ 4and then x cross like civ 3 and 2

I could probably go on and on thinking on how to improve it but this is what I have.

Whoo that's a mouth fool :)

My Ideas:

*Legendary Units which would be Mythical or Fictional Barbarian Units you would get if you defeat them. Units Like: Bigfoot, The Loch Ness Monster, Hercules, Moth Man, and Spiderman.
*Able to control Your Space ship so you can Colonize Planets and fight aliens.
*Really Good Scenario Creators from this forum should be able to make scenarios for expansion packs.
*A Crusade which would be a war of People who believe in your religion and People from another religion.

That wouldn't fit in with Civ at all. Civ is meant to be based on history, so inserting fantasy into it is like putting an FPS mode into a FIFA game.

Im not gonna lie, that acctually might be kind of fun. "grand theft FIFA" or "Call of Duty: Soccer Warfare" rated M soccer game.

Maybe they should take several mods of stuff that really doesn't fit in a core Civ game,
like they did in BTS and include that. They could allow support for minor civs such as the various native American Tribes like the Apache or the Eskimo and some of the other cultures that are extinct today.

Actually I have heard of a football video game (not in the EA sports FIFA series) in which you do just about anything, including shoot the ball...although I can't remember what it was called.

I would expect that in expansions, as in BtS. But I doubt there will be too many mods in the Vanilla version, given that they'll be spending their time developing the actual core game, rather than mods to it.

I think it is called the blitz. I saw it at walmart.

I agree with this statement. I remember that vanilla civ 3 had 0 mods to it.

Just a quick note from me. I think the line of Spearman -> Pikeman should be expanded by at least two subsequent units. I tend to avoid training spearmen and pikemen in my games because I keep thinking they will soon be grenadiers anyway and then I would rather have the promotions given to axemen / swordsmen / macemen.
