Civ VII Weekly Reveal Guessing Thread

So, why mention that Ashoka can lead Persia but then skip the last antiquity civ for the first base game exploration civ?
I guess they did want to throw us a bit of a surprise. Persia might've been too obvious so they skipped ahead for a bit to keep these announcements fresh and more exciting.

Persia being noted as having unique military units, plural, is interesting. It could just refer to the fact that you're almost certainly building multiple, or that the civilian unit has military bonuses, but perhaps it'll have a different balance of uniques compared to the rest of Antiquity? Also, Naval Commanders officially confirmed through Chola is neat.

Maybe a Satrap commander unit that has expanded civilian bonuses?

Satraps were primarily civilian governors, though.

The day and time of this week announcement was a combo breaker to what we had so far, so no more the tranquility of knowing the days and time to expect every civ and leader revel....

Quivers on melee fighters - Immortals are back, it seems. I guess the commander and the cav (as Cataphract) could all be uniques or generic ones with Persian looks, we'll have to wait what they meant by multiple unique military units I guess.

In fact, very specifically civilian, with the military command normally kept separate to avoid concentrating too much power in non-Royal hands.

After over 15 years of rebellion, civil war and unrest across the Persian Empire, Mazaeus (Mashavashta) the Satrap of Babylon, was a notable exception to this, when Darius put him in command of the Persian right wing at Gaugamela. This, however, is in the context of both severe casualties among Persian nobility and commanders of all type in the previous decades (Darius was something like a 5th cousin of the direct Royal line, made Shah because he was the closest relative left!) and Mazaeus' special capabilities in Babylon - he was married to a Babylonian wife and had been Satrap for almost 20 years, amazingly surviving and navigating the period of rebellion, and had helped to equip most of the Persian force before the battle. He simply appears to have been the best man for the job regardless of what would normally be considered appropriate.

Looks like our leader reveal today was Ashoka (and SHINY Ashoka) and the Chola! Congrats to @Evolena and @TheGhostEnthusiast this week!

I will opt for 2 Civs and 1 Leader next week:

Mississippian
Ashoka
Persia
(or whatever their name)

(I may be influenced by the recent Steam actuality ^^)

I mean, is any other game guide roster than Achaemenid/other adjective Persia and Mississippi even feasible? I'd be really hesitant to bet against it. Leader, though... the most reasonable decision would be to say they'll prolly use the double game guide to tide us over while we get a first look for a leader already know the ability of, Amina or Ashoka. I kinda want to take a gamble and say they'll drop a Persian leader, but I also don't want to be wrong... Let's say Ashoka next week, and then if it turns out to be a Persian leader we can all have a good laugh at my expense.

Evolena is on a two week streak (and maybe a little extra if we count the Persia mention), woo!

I guessed a + adjective Persia game guide, but it turned out to be just Persia and we got a Chola game guide instead. While I got the Antiquity roster correct overall, I was wrong about this week's drop. Personally, I wouldn't count myself as correct there.

I wouldn't say so, because you went with just Persia while I ignored the wisdom of Alphabet Theory.

they could theoretically wink at satrapies by giving a Unique Commander unit an ability to keep cities as cities when you conquer one and suggest it's because you installed a local to run the Satrapy. or something. Either way, unique military units-plural is an interesting thought problem.

I'll say this: a very militaristic Persia opens up room for the builder/culture-focused Assyria I want. :mischief:

Yeah I was debating whether to count Persia as a win this week but I feel like that is going to be officially revealed in an upcoming week separately and shouldn't be counted this week. Plus that gives everyone good odds at an easy win soon. :)

This time, they don't mention it is next week. Albeit it is very likely there will also be a first look next week, so it sounds like multiple civs and a first look next week?

More civs. I have been getting the impression they might be ramping up reveals soon to maybe two a week, so it could be noticing us of that. Either that, or they are planning an exploration "batch reveal" like they did with our first five antiquity civs.

I'm getting huge vibes that Assyria will be naturally encouraged to progress through something like the Outremer into Mamluks.

Which I think will mean it will have a militaristic aspect (especially if it is contrasted with Babylon-through-Aturkids), but stands really good chances of having some additional facets, I'd bet probably religion and building as good estimates.

I expect it to have a militaristic aspect; they were known for their brutal conquests, after all. Religion, especially in the early game, seems fairly equivalent with culture so that's fair. Still, we now know they were huge builders of wonders and infrastructure (after destroying Babylon they rebuilt it even more beautiful, not to mention their glorious capitals at Ashur, Dur-Sharrukin, and Nineveh) so I would like to see that side to them.

Today's reveal states what Persia pairs greatly with Ashoka's manic phase. I think this hints enough their conquest focus.
