Civ VII Weekly Reveal Guessing Thread

Gandhi. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it. I’ll actually bump my excitement score for this game if proven otherwise, but I’m cynical enough to think that FXS can’t let go of certain old memes and habits.
Please no. A Mughal, a Siamese king, I'll even take Son Wukong over another nuclear Gandhi meme.

I wonder if the Personae will be for our mystery leader or for Catherine or Fredrick. On one hand, Catherine herself has already been portrayed in different ways in the series before, and Fredrick was a versatile leader who could easily be split into two. On the other hand, if Gandhi is coming, an alternate persona for the fans paying the big bucks based on the most famous meme in the franchise would be a smart final reveal... I'll admit, I'm a tad scared.

Spoiler :

Of course, we can't ignore the pressing possibility of a Diplomatic anti-Bayonet Constitution Lili'uokalani and a Cultural composer Lili'uokalani as the final, surprise reveal...

My wishful thinking "guess" is that we are going to get a Mughal leader, because of the same colors of the awnings in the Maurya and the Mongol Game guide. Or it was white-background Gandhi leading both of them. Oh no. Though I've seen the same colour in the Maya and Shawnee ones so it may be dead from the start. Lili'uokalani is unlikely, because the color of details in Hawai'i game guide is Trung Trac's one.

If the Modern Era was longer and went into the nuclear age, I would be much more confident that Gandhi was in.

However as the game is set to end at a world war rather than the present day, I wonder if Gandhi will be saved for a future expansion that covers the nuclear age in more depth.

While he died in 1948, which would correspond roughly to the end of the current Modern Era, my impression is that his trigger happy nuke meme would be more appropriate if/when they release an expansion with a 4th age that presumably includes Cold War / mutually assured destruction nuclear war scare dynamics.

Tomorrow marks one month left until
Civ VII
launches on February 11! The road to release is paved with more reveals, including another First Look and two new Civs coming up soon. Also, keep an eye out for a brand new developer diary.

One first look, two civ guides. Himiko, Japan and Siam maybe? To give us a break from the French?

then Mughal, Mughal?maybe Siam Leader, Siam
Waku Waku.
Who will be tailored leader to pair with Siam?

King Mongkut, King Chulalongkorn, Tak Sin (he could lead Qing as well but this because he's Oversea Chinese (and full blood, not 'half chinese' as earlier mentioned). or Regent Chuang Bunnag (This choice is safer because Lese Majeste law doesn't protect him. and I like him more because Bunnag Family has its origins in the late 17th Century, a seamless link between 'Old' Siam (Ayutthaya) and 'New' Siam (Rattankosin since 1850s).)

I have a feeling the last remaining leader could be Shaka
I hope so, just read a little about him and I would really love a Zulu leader, maybe even someone like Cetshwayo whose name I've seen circle around this forum lately, but it doesn't seem likely since the 2 not accounted for civs probably have to be either Britain, Prussia/Germany or Russia. Don't think a Zulu leader would premiere without the Zulu civ, it's possible but not likely.

Also there was that rumor that one of the civ YouTubers saw some concept art of what looked like Shaka Zulu at the firaxis headquarters? Was that Ursa Ryan? I guess the final unrevealed leader is anyone's guess but I hope it's someone out of Europe at least🗿

I would say that Shaka or Cetshwayo could possibly be revealed alongside Buganda. Buganda has a similar icon to the Zulu from previous games, and both are Bantu people.

Amina. Trung Trac. Himiko. Machiavelli. Leaders don't have to be directly related to their civ anymore, which really opens up the possibilities. (Not sure if it's Shaka or not myself. A Modern Age African leader makes sense, but for all we know it's Marie Antoinette because heaven knows we don't have enough late 18th century French leaders yet.)

A redditor pointed out that the background art for the promotion trees here seem to be cut from the Civilization artworks, with Logistics being the Chola elephant and Leadership being from America. Maneuver at least is one we haven’t seen, any guesses as to which Civ it would fit?

The hat looks "cowboyish" but since America and Mexico has already been revealed my next thought was Germany. Apparently, there is such a thing as "Boonie Hat" which was worn by German Armed forces in tropical climates. Though it's also popular in Australia and the U.S. so that could also point to the British. :dunno:

I'm now probably going to have German Military apparel recommendations on the internet for a while now.

Which one is assault? That doesn‘t look modern, so we should either know it or not all of them are from civ backgrounds.

I think the civ artwork, America and Chola, is just an instance of artwork being reused, rather than each piece of artwork correlating to a civ. The fleet and squadron commanders have the same thing. Specifically the squadron commander has the artwork used for the modern age of American B-17 bombers flying, which most certainly isn't going to be a different civ.

Yeah, Nuclear Ghandi and Peaceful Ghandi.

Maybe same with Fleet commanders... Maneuver is Hawaii. I can't put my finger on any of the other ones. Some are definitely completely designs, maybe others are placeholders.
