woohoo ... lets all have a party ... it looks like MP will be a patch :)

Yep, a multiplayer patch is on its way. Sid Meier said when he was here last week that they were working around the clock on it, but that they hadn`t decided how it should be distributed yet.

well .. exept for the distribution bit :s .... but for now lets just assume that it will be a patch ;) ... then we can be happier and have more fun

i set this thread up so we can all have a party and express our joyousness and happyness in one place

i would like to be the first one to eat my words that MP WILL be in an expantion .... and i am sooo happy that i am wrong!!

woohoo ... so let the party begin and the joyfull drinking and taking of explicit substances begin ... and some loud really bad music ... pack the place so we cant move and sweat till u drop of dehydration ;) .. woohoo

or we could just be happy ;) .... anyway .. show your support for MP in the patch form and boogie down

Would I be the only one surprised if MP was in a patch? It seems to be the most desired addition (read most likely to be purchased) and if they're working around the clock on it I'd think they'd want to get some of that expense back. They are running a business, afterall.

MP in a patch?

Sounds like a good enough reason to have a party.....then again do you ever really need a reason to party?

*Toasts the room and buys a round*

Hate to burst your bubble but if he said that they have not decided how to distribute it yet, it may still be an expansion not a patch.

always one to rain down on the party (party pooper) .... u did read my post right? ... oh well .... like they said .... they are "deciding" ... so that makes it 50/50

i guess there aint many people to exited about the aspect of MP? could be a VERY bad idea to releace it as a expantion ... 3 replies in 24 hours ... 2 very non party like responces and 1 pisshead that parties around the clock ;) ... better make that 2 pissheads ;) .. but im EXITED that firaxis have even mentioned MP let alone that they will compleate the game and give it MP

Honestly, I couldn't care less about MP. Civ3 to me is a single-player experience. If I want to play someone else I'll go for a game more suited to it, games like Unreal Tournament and Global Operations come to mind. I laugh when I hear of people playing games by e-mail, games that take months to complete. It all just seems so.....complicated and un-workable. Who has the time?

Anyway, that's my two cents. Despite this, I am looking forward to the next patch, hopefully they'll fix the tech-trading mess.

I admit that I find it hard to believe that Firaxis would honestly release it as a patch, no matter what they say. Maybe I'm just too cynical.

I predict that it's gonna be part of a scenario-MP expansion pack.

[dance] [party] [party] [dance]

let`s paty anway and hope 1.21 will fix the game, even if it doesn`t include MP!

Did someone say party?
Count me in, whatever the occasion.

And if the party coincides with some Firaxis release (patch, MP, whatever) that makes us happy, all the better!

Cheers.

I'll still party... did not mean to cancel, or imply to cancel, the party. Just don't think MP will be in a patch is all. Then again the idea of MP does not make my mouth water with anticipation.

That said, let's party for Civ itself!

At least I will have little party soon, because I ordered Civ3 yesterday and will get it tomorrow (hopefully, or friday..). :D

Might sound unbelievable, but I haven't got my own copy yet. I have only played the game few times on my friend's computer.

Oh, and hello everybody. I'm new here as you can see.

"if they're working around the clock on it I'd think they'd want to get some of that expense back. They are running a business, afterall."

But perhaps they realise that if they add MP in a patch, they may sell more copies of Civ 3 and make money off that.

I hope it is released in a patch because we may not get the add-on pack here in South Africa (we haven't even got Civ 3 here (I had to order it)).

Ha ha ha ha. MP patch! That's rich! You have one heluva sense of humor. Tee hee! MP patch!

What if the mp patch allowed you to play mp, but under one condition - you actually MUST have the original CD in your drive for it to work :) :) :)

That would improve sales of civ3 enough to make it well worth the money of distributing a patch. I think of something like battlenet for starcraft...

As to whether MP would be a patch or expansion :-

An expansion would obviously make some revenue for Firaxis, and if it was reasonably priced, I guess the MPers would go for it (maybe $20?).

Expansions are the most common way of significant upgrades (e.g. The Sims).

MP was delivered for Civ2 as an expansion not a patch.

On the other hand ...

If it's an expansion (and therefore optional), it makes code management and support tougher for Firaxis. Would they have to have separate sets of patches in the future depending on whether you had MP or not? Could they handle all the testing required for the two flavors of game (which may both experience the same bug)?

How does Firaxis view MP - was it their original intention to provid MP (I think so in the early days) and do they feel they 'owe' it to us for free? (I think probably not).

My guess would be that MP wouldn't come out for at least another 3 to 6 months and probably as an expansion - but what do I know?

geesh ... to many party poopers here ... so if they are still wondering how it will be distributed ... what would u think that could possably mean? i take it as the idea of MP as an expantion is still up in the air ... perhaps it could mean how much they are going to charge??

and didnt civ2 MP (ala ultimate civ) come as a entire new game? ... rather than a expantion pack? .... that is how i bought it at least ... a full priced game rather than an expantion that u had to already have civ2 .... so perhaps they will give us ultimate civ3 :( .. a whole new game for a whole new price :(

and if MP isnt for u ... why would u post in the civ3 MP patch party? ... i honestly dont get it

anyhow ... glad to seee im not the only one exited about civ3 MP as a patch :) (and i dont think i will be buying and kind of a MP expantion ... it will truly have to be something special.... other turn based stratigy games will be out by then ... and they WILL include mp from the start)

When Civ3 was released, I was pessimistic and started waiting Civ 3 - MGE edition,
not byuing the original... Glad to see I was wrong   :goodjob:

Mark my words. MP will be released as part of an expansion pack, NOT as a patch. There are a lot of people here deluding themselves if that's what they are expecting. :p

That said, I will only buy the expansion pack if it adds something to the game, I will not be buying it merely for multiplayer, as I never intend to play multiplayer Civ3. IMHO Civ3 is a single-player game, and stories of playing games by e-mail that last months on end simply puts me off the whole idea of MP. Hopefully the expansion will include new civs, units, buildings, and even perhaps uprgades to transport (paved roads and highways, anyone?) and maybe even farms! :D

-down on his knees-

Please bring back farms, puhleeeezeeeee! ;)
