It's not that bad. Most of the functions have nice sensible names, and most of a specific objects functions are contained within the file relating to the object. There are one or two things which are a bit cryptic.
One or 2 things?

There is virtually no commenting. Yes the names are done well but if they were atleast not named properly I would say it is mere horse &*#!*.
Documentation is not naming conventions. That is called good programming. Documentation is giving a brief (yet accurate) explanation of what the method/function/object is used for and how to use it.
There is absolutely none of this as far as I can see.
This is going to be a nightmare to build anything upon:sad:

Just curious.....

I always play with Servo's modpack. Will downloading the new patch make the modpack incompatible with the new version?

Could you explain with more details please ?

If you go to My Documents\My Games\Sid Meiers Civilization 4\CustomAssets and rename CustomAssets to something like CustomAssets_old, the game cannot find them, fixing the problem.

i dont think this is too off topic, but i think it might be time someone who is more intelligent than me (not hard) to create a "SDK Explained" thread sometime soon?

Things are already flying around in C&C...

Well, my movies issue, that has been around the ENTIRE time, is still present. Intro movies stutter, Stonehenge movie (since I started a new game solely to see if it was fixed) gets maybe 5 frames in and then hangs while the music continues. This is _WITH_ the "hide background" option set. I've sent a note to Take2, but seeing as I only get a form "we've escalated your problem" whenever I do that, I'm not holding my breath.

System specs: (from DXDiag, since that's easiest)

AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core 3800+
2GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 6200 TurboCache, with 84.21 drivers
Resolution at 1680x1050 (although the problem happened at 1024x768 too)

Any suggestions? I tried the "performace fix" on 1.52, and nothing; I don't think it's likely to change on 1.61 unless there's some magic afoot.

noooo, not free market  and representation? well, i guess the latter isn't that big a deal, with universal suffrage so close.

I may look into state property and mercantilism now...

also, someone referenced the pyramids getting nerfed (HERE), but I don't see anything, can anyone confirm?

Good to see the new patch and good to see that Firaxis has tried to balance the game a bit more. Not that I think that all changes are perfect, but most are a move in the right direction. I'll just have to mod a bit to get the balance exactly right (in my opinion right of course).

Yep. They were backwards in all previous versions (bug). Now they are the "right" way.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Well, I have gone over the list of fixes, changes and additions and-overall-I really like what I see. In particular I like:

1) Representation and Free Market: Sorry guys, but I happen to feel that these NEEDED to be nerfed a bit-they were always too much of a no-brainer, and tended to generate a 'cascade effect' for players that got it first. From a realism point of view, Rep should be more expensive, 'coz those pollies and those elections are expensive! However, I think State property should be High Maintainance because....well THINK about it ;). I also think that Mercantilism should reduce the distance costs of cities, given that was its historical role!

2) Forest chopping: I hang my head in admitting that I REALLY exploited the forest chop a LOT. Again, pre-1.61 chopping all your forests was a no-brainer, and in a Wonder race, I could easily make up for the lack of a critical resource if I was lucky enough to have a lot of forests on hand. At least now I have to be a little more strategic about it!

3) Reduced Memory usage: Well anything which maintains the speed of the game for a longer period has got to be good!

4) Python changes: As someone who is trying to get into modding, opening up more features to Python will help me a LOT, so this is a great change-only wish they had done the same thing to XML.

Just one thing, though, I REALLY wish they would swap the abilities of the Pyramids and Parthenon. Think about who BUILT the Parthenon-the GREEKS-a people who experimented with almost every government type imaginable before they ever gained widespread acceptance-wheras I can see the Pyramids being inspirational to a nation by boosting great people points! Costs would need to be altered accordinly though!

For people who have trouble playing the in-game Civilization IV movies, Firaxis has released low resolution versions of all the movies for download on Firaxis website.

Before downloading these movies, you should try the v1.61 patch first to see if it takes care of the problem. If not, you can download the low-res movies in three separate files:

Low-Res Movies - Intro (68.09 MB)
Low-Res Movies - Victory (40.19 MB)
Low-Res Movies - Wonders (271.04 MB)

Were you just born yesterday, or something? They have always been wrong. In the XML, you could clearly see that the Market used the Grocer button, and vice versa---this was definitely confusing for modders. The button graphics also didn't match the other graphics. I don't really care either way about the fix, but it made sense to fix it somehow.
