Hi, I have a mac and i've buyed Civcomplete for windows because of BTS and because i have Parallels desktop. I installed it and no problems when suddenly varios things occured
In elsewhwere on the game, where the mouse is placed you see a horizontal thing like a 'window' that you can see the windows desktop(with the orange fishes or the green pasture with clouds), the blue menu bar, MY PC, applications, etc...
Also, there are no 'next war' or 'rhyes and fall of civ.' and in vanilla there is no europe or south america and east asia all these kinds of scenariois.
In FfH, I can only choose the doviello's civilization
And maybe other rare things I've not founded by now.
Sorry for my english, i'm from Spain

And one question:
How can you take screenshots?

Thanks

Hello, welcome to the Mac Civ4 forum :wavey:

I have Civ4 Complete for Windows. I run it in Parallels version 4.0 Build 4.0.3810.

It sounds as if you are running Windows XP, and you are describing the Windows XP Desktop. I expect you are running Parallels in "Coherence Mode", and this is happening when the mouse pointer (a gold dagger image) is outside of your Civ4 window. "Coherence Mode" is an illusion. Parallels is really running Windows as a full screen application, but the Windows desktop is hidden. If you move a Windows window quickly you can sometimes see the Windows desktop being drawn and then hidden at the edges of the moving window. It is possible that you also see this effect when the cursor moves.

I don't see this problem on my system. Do you have the latest version of Parallels?

there are no 'next war' or 'rhyes and fall of civ.'
I see Next War Epic (Mod) and Next War (Scenario) if I choose "Beyond the Sword Content" in Beyond the Sword. I do not see Rhyse and Fall of Civ in any of the menus in any of the game versions. I expect you need to download it.

and in vanilla there is no europe or south america and east asia all these kinds of scenariois.
Those mods are not in my copy of Civ4 either. Are they supposed to be?

In FfH, I can only choose the doviello's civilization
I don't have FfH, so I can't test this. Did you download FfH and install it yourself?

How can you take screenshots?
I use the Mac OS screenshot facilities. They are available in every program.

Command-Shift-3 makes a screenshot file on your desktop containing the whole screen.
Command-Shift-4 makes a screenshot file on your desktop containing a selected area.

Hold Control down with either of these to put the screenshot on your clipboard instead of in a file.

If you prefer, you can use the Parallels menu option "Take Screenshot". It is in the "Virtual Machine" menu and produces a file on your desktop, like Command-Shift-3.

Sorry if I upset you with my welcome. I'm just trying to be friendly!

You have Parallels version 3. You need to enable the DirectX3D support in that version. There is a checkbox somewhere in the Virtual Machine Video settings. Have you done that?

Sorry, I tried guessing what you are doing, but my guesses are obviously not good.

I have Parallels 4. I can't tell you where the DirectX3D checkbox is in version 3 because I have not run Parallels 3 for a long time. Your links show Windows panels. The checkbox is on a Parallels Virtual Machine Video Settings panel in Mac OS X. You can get to it from the Parallels "Virtual Machine" menu, when the Virtual Machine is not running.

If Civ4 is displaying the top level of your VM instead of the Civ4 Saves folder when you try to save, then maybe Civ4 is not installed properly. Is there a folder at C:\My Documents\My Games\Civilization IV\Saves\ on your Windows system? (Sorry, I don't know what this path looks like on a Spanish Windows XP system).

Civ4 did run in Parallels 3 for me. But I did have to enable DirectX3D support

And(Oh! by the way)(I'm beggining to feel I bring TOO MANY problems to this forums, hehe) when I save game I don't see
single
auto
quick
I see
-(Icon)My computer
(Icon)A:
+(Icon)C:

Any help?

Thanks

I have this Saving-Path-Issue on my new iMac too, running Parallels 4

The auto-saves should be in Z/My_Documents/My_Games/...

Unfortunately, I have to navigate through this tree for each saving and each opening of a game.

If I've learned that right, Alan has another setting for Parallels, and so he is able to use the default file path

It sounds as if you have your Windows home folder configured to be the same as your Mac OS X home folder, using a Networked Drive (drive Z) to create the connection. It looks as if Civ4 doesn't know how to follow a Networked Drive path, so it can't find it to display in your Load and Save dialogs, and just displays the top level of your C drive.

I have a policy of not letting my Windows virtual machine have access to my Mac files and folders except when I copy individual items between them, so I don't have your setup. It feels more secure.

In my virtual machine configuration, I have "Share Mac OS X folders with Windows" and "Share all Windows disks with Mac OS X" both switched off. I have a separate Windows home folder in the virtual machine, in C:\Documents and Settings\ in the normal Windows arrangement.

I use almost the same settings than Alan.

I use Parallels 4. After installed Windows XP, I've updated all the "directx" Microsoft stuff to DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

"Share Mac OS X folders" and "Share Windows disks" are turning off.

I've first installed Civ4 Vanilla on the C: drive ( C:/Program Files/Firaxis Games/ ) then updated Civ4.

Then I installed BTS, on C: drive where it found by itself the right path ( C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword ) and updated it to the last 3.17 release.

Restarted. Played with no problem at all.

The most "difficult" was to configure Windows and all its stuff. As I use a macbookpro 15" ( 1440*900 ) I setup Windows screen to 1280*800 because I got problems with some games if I setup my sceen wider ...

Wise indeed ! Never forget Windows is much much much more messy than MacOS X and internet much much much less secure.

Before installing any game, better to well configure Windows. More spent time at the beginning but much more free time after and much mor fun to install and play games ... ;)
